News The Season Ends. The Work Doesn't. (Email from Ownership)

Thank you for you!

You showed up. You showed love. And you helped make this about more than baseball. You made it a season of connection, excitement, and unforgettable moments.

Behind those moments were our players, coaches, staff, and their families, who gave so much this season. We know baseball asks a lot of families, and we don't take their sacrifices for granted. We're proud of what this team accomplished, but we're not satisfied. There's more work to do.

Since becoming Principal Owners in August, we've felt more warmth and energy than we imagined, and have even more reasons to believe in what we can accomplish together. Sitting in the stands and cheering alongside you, we've experienced the excitement surrounding this team firsthand. And while we felt the sting of this season ending too soon, we gained an even deeper appreciation for the championship dream you've carried long before we arrived.

We see you. And we thank you.

We're new to this chapter, but the Padres' story runs much deeper. We respect that history, and we're grateful for the foundation Peter Seidler and so many others built. We chose to invest in the Padres' present and future because we believe in what's possible here. And we're excited about what we can build together.

We said we were ALL IN. We meant it then. We mean it now.

All in on our people. All in on winning. All in on San Diego, Baja, and beyond.

Your faith deserves more than words; it deserves action. We're committed to earning your trust through the decisions we make and the work we do alongside Padres leadership.

We want to bring a World Series championship to this community and build an organization that makes you proud for years to come, both on and off the field. We know that takes more than ambition. It takes thoughtful decisions, hard work, and a willingness to improve every day. We're committed to all of it.

Thank you for being part of what makes the Padres so special. We're excited about what's ahead and can't wait to share more moments together.

The season ends. The work doesn't. We're all in, and we're in this together.

With belief and gratitude,

Kwanza Jones and Jose E. Feliciano

They keep saying the right things. They've showed up at the right places (Seeing them sitting in the seats with Don and Mud was the most refreshing kind of surprising).

Let's see how the offseason goes. I feel like we will know a lot more come February.

Alright this better mean they open up the check books, I better see King, France, and Morejon on opening day of whatever next season happens (2027 or 2028)

Facts! I’ll be VERY upset if they aren’t all there. In addition Matsui better be there as well.

Just got this as well. I like the sentiment and I’ll wait to see if they put their money where their mouth is.

And it wasn't another email from Gruepner. This one at least has the tone and excitement that has been exuded/felt by Kwanza and Jose.

But as everyone has said, when it comes down to it, will they spend the money? Nobody knows the amounts, but Padres will be spending money and for who and for how much needs to be considered, knowing the issues.

Starting pitching, backend of the bullpen, left field, and DH.

I imagine it depends on the pending lockout situation.

“ All in on San Diego, Baja, and beyond.” I like that

As the old adage says, actions speak louder than words. Frustratingly there may not be an opportunity for them to do anything for awhile through no fault of their own.

They’re definitely saying the right things, will let the actions speak for themselves in the offseason. I’ll remain optimistic after the awful immediate aftermath of Peter’s passing and hope the teams stays competitive and fan favorites return.

Re-sign King + Morejon + France, but don't bid against yourselves.

Keep the contract lengths as short as possible, don't repeat the mistakes of past excessively long big contracts.

I hope our top 3 FAs all circle back before signing and give us a chance to match any competing offers. And I hope ownership does match unless the numbers are just absurd.

Well that's quite a contradiction.

Now you say:  "Keep the contract lengths as short as possible, don't repeat the mistakes of past excessively long big contracts."

But just yesterday, in a previous post, you said:  "I'd be willing to give Morejon a record-breaking contract for a reliever (102M+). It would have to be 6+ years though,"

Geez, make up your mind already ;)

Why do we want to run back a team (at a much higher price) that had a +41 run difference and lost in the NLDS?

because the alternative is having a worse team and getting bounced in the wild card round or not making the playoffs at all, if there's even a season next year. also the odd-year + manager year 2 curse is real.

lack of offseason spending (due to limited budget w/ interim owners) hurt us in 2025 and 2026 and contributed to both playoff exits + overpaying at the trade deadline.

try to bring back the guys who were the biggest contributors to our 91 win season at a reasonable cost. cut the rest of the fat and try to hunt for bargains for the supporting cast.

so not 100% running it back, but keeping the best performers and letting go of the others who did not meet expectations performance or health-wise.

Our options are not running it back or doing nothing.

I’ll say this…having 4 huge playoff sellouts at PetCo within the past 2 weeks (on top of regular sellouts at home during reg season) should show Kwanza & Jose how dedicated the Friar Faithful are.

The balls now in their court to show how much they are going to dedicate back to the fans…team salary-wise. Let AJ and crew keep tapping the big Int FAs while he can…but let him also supplement some MLBers here in the states so that he can keep his talent in the cupboard always full.

Friedman so far is the only GM in division who’s been allowed to do that currently because of all the Tax deferrals advantages…but if Jose and Kwanza spend enough…they could remain competing with the dragons to the north.

Smart spending is still very much needed…Padres don’t need any more albatross contracts…but if AJ is allowed to spend on the margins while also being allowed to seriously acquire occasional young big talent when it’s available…him and his crew have been proving to have a better track record lately.

Papa Pete already built it…Jose and Kwanza just got to show that they’re willing to ante up…because the Sea of San Diegans are in full listen-mode to see how the new owners respond throughout the off-seasons…

Just sign King, Ty, Morejon, Arozarena, and Skubal.

8

u/Downtown-Rice_ Friar 1d ago

That's about $110M+ annual salary just between those players alone.

When you include Machado, Bogey, FTJ, and Merrill, that's over $210M for just 9 players.

That is insane and don't think that is something they can attain without increasing tickets, concessions, parking, apparel, etc.

There are more ways to compete by just spending in free agency. There has to be a balance.

u/nate_orenstam 1d ago

Think that was a joke

5

u/Similar-Bandicoot854 Tony Gwynn 1d ago

Yes it was 😂

7

u/Downtown-Rice_ Friar 1d ago

Not sure about that. Loads of people think the only way the team can sustain their competitive streak is by signing big money free agents.

There has to be a balance. And big name signings are not the only way.

1

u/nate_orenstam 1d ago

All right, friend, but if new ownership wants to sign all those guys, I'm not gonna stand in their way

1

u/RonDL ASG '92 8h ago

That's way more than $110. Skubal gets half of that.

Good words. Waiting on the action.

What does all in mean? She keeps repeating phrase

Feeling and vibes baby!!

u/Evilsmile SD 1d ago

It's from Poker, when you put all your chips into the pot. Basically you're going for THIS win and not holding back.

2

u/JustLoSd Luis Campusano 1d ago

I know what all in means. I mean what does she mean by saying it all the time. Does that mean they’re going to open the wallet?

5

u/jayman415 SD 1d ago

They seem like genuinely nice people. Preller/Seidler got us some big contracts, so think there is less room than people think but they seem genuinely committed to winning.

2

u/Simodine- 17h ago

All in, what fans want to know is what does that actually mean.

Does it mean we really really want to win.

Does it mean they are moving all their chips to the middle.

Fans have shown both.  They want to really really win and have paid the price by showing up.

I think morejon won’t be resigned.  Unless the padres trade Miller.  Which can’t be ruled out.

I don’t see Skubal being signed when numbers like 300-500m are being tossed around.

King is gonna get paid and is the most likely best starter I can see the Padres signing.

France on a 2-3 year deal feels doable.

Everyone wants a big bat in LF, don’t feel great about the odds of that happening.

I’d be mostly fine with bringing back France and adding a player like Laureano.  Who should be cheap to play LF.  With Taylor and Harris as good bench options.

I really feel like this is the offseason to look at moving cronenworth to a utility player.  He has shown he can play all 4 infield spots.  I don’t think he is tradable to move enough salary to make it worth it.  I also don’t have a great replacement option who is available.  Guess they could move Tatis to 2b and go for more outfielders.

The real focus has got to be on starting pitching.  Anything else feels like a bonus.

I just feel like we need a solid bullpen. Watching the pitches from our last games was rough everyone and they momma was being walked.

u/RonDL ASG '92 8h ago

Sign Skubal, or talk is cheap.

1

u/swampdickman 1d ago

Let's see

We better resign our top free agents and get both Suzuki and Randy Arozarena
