Litter
Litter
Am I getting old, grumpy, and miserable or is there an extraordinary amount of litter around Charlottetown? I notice it mostly downtown, as well as around multi unit buildings (commercial and residential), scattered around their fence lines. Sad really, I know cities will always have litter but it seems a city of 80,000 (??? Think this is population of greater Charlottetown now) could do better.
Maybe I am getting old and complaining too much tho lol.

The pond near Belvedere golf course the culvert near the bypass has been getting worse all summe fow two years. There's a couple of guys who fish there. There's a pile of trash on the culvert where they sit. A suitcase, a shopping cart, just trash everywhere. Three years ago before that bunch showed up no trash. I know because I bike by that spot nearly every day all summer for years.

I think there is a lot more than there used to be. I live in a rural area there is three busted open garage bags in the ditch near my driveway, a few fast food wrappers/cups, and new beer cans every damn week.

Population growth of 30% in 15 years and crackheads everywhere will do that as well as police not enforcing littering laws.

Yup, lots of adult children that weren’t taught basic manners of respecting their community. Or some stupid sense of entitlement thinking it’s someone else’s job to clean up after their laziness. Lack of empathy towards wildlife and sharing community with others.

It's a side effect of a cultural shift happening on PEI, you'll just have to get used to it.

Hmmm I must have seen numbers including all of queens- most of that 89 would be Stratford, Charlottetown, Cornwall I would assume

I saw a stat recently that islanders have less trash per person then any other province.
This is great and we could still do better.

The garbage along the road and sides of Hillsborough bridge is terrible. There has been a hubcap there for months and also dead birds. Also lots of garbage on the active walking path. There has been a yellow metal pipe at the roundabout by the crossroads fire dept since the summer

No, you’re not mistaken. There’s a lot, the city could be paying people to maintain it, but they don’t. Or at least, they don’t pay enough people to do it.

Maybe you'll find the knife and the towel that went missing in the Carr Case. Unreal

Litter has made me angry since I was a literal child, so I wouldn’t say it’s your age. It’s aggravating because it’s so simple to just throw garbage in a garbage can, but for some reason, some people think its impossible to hold on to their garbage until they find one.

One thing I notice that's way different than say 10-15yrs ago. Is the number of city workers keeping things cleaned up. Doesn't seem like they have half the staff working around town as they used to.

The pathetic ones suggesting it's a "new" and a come from away problem clearly don't see what locals do. Nothing like littering your beer cans while driving. Yup. Totally new to the island..or how we've accepted their terms of cigarette butts does not equal littering.
Get your head out of it, focus on improvements instead..

There is a lot of it you’re right. I too find it very depressing and does not help my blood pressure
