New video for what baits to use in October
Hey all!
I just put out another YouTube video about what baits and strategies to use for the month of October, I hope you all enjoy it.
https://youtu.be/HtgRA7N0Y0U?si=rpa8SNbYbt72Hhz8
I'm looking for ideas for upcoming videos. Would any of you be interested in videos focused on specific species, like walleye and bass? Or maybe videos about how to fish certain spots from shore, like rivers and lakes?

Ottawa River Largemouth?
Is it just me, or are largemouth bass in the east end of the Ottawa River (Cumberland to Lefebvre) uncommon?
I’ve been fishing the river in the east end for well over 20 years. I took a little break from fishing and recently got back into it. I do a lot of shore fishing at home after work, and I consistently catch smallmouth—healthy ones too. I also do some boat fishing for walleye and occasionally hit the bays near my area for pike and bass.
I remember when I was a kid, I wasn’t even trying to catch largemouth, and I would catch them anyway. Now it seems to be the opposite. I’ve been targeting largemouth all summer and have yet to catch a single one, despite fishing almost every day.
My go-to baits are Senko worms, Cotton Cordells, live frogs and crayfish, along with a few topwater lures. So far, all I’ve managed to catch on them are smallmouth.
Am I going insane? What am I missing? Am I not using the right bait, or am I just not fishing the right areas?
Either way, I find the bass don’t seem to bite as much this time of year, so I’ll be switching back to walleye fishing until the season reopens. But I’d definitely appreciate some pointers for next year.
TIA!

SM Bass on the Rideau river
Caught a nice (for me) Smallmouth Bass on the Rideau river tonight just before sunset. I do not have a scale yet to check weight but at 18.5 inches long it may be my personal best bass so far.
Very happy I recently got into fishing. Peaceful way to spend downtime on the shore.
Loving the Yamamoto Senkos!

Fire ants ruining my favourite spot
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to deal with fire ants while shore fishing?
I recently caught a nice a musky on the Rideau river, and when I returned to this spot a second time hoping (dreaming) for a repeat, it did not take long until I noticed then crawling up my pants forcing me to leave.
Looking for any suggestions as I really do not want to have to stop going to that spot.
Do they stop becoming a nuisance below a certain temperature?
Thanks.

Dick Bell park
Hi all - boys (8, 12) really want to catch a pike before winter comes in. We're in the West end and thinking of trying Dick Bell park. Does anyone know where we should set up? Anywhere in the red area...? Or is it too rocky?
Alternatively we might head to Morris Island (seems beautiful!).

What's up with people leaving line on the bank?
When I fish from the bank, even in not very popular spots, I very often find long webs of fishing line on the ground (usually not even connected to anything). It always surprises/annoys me because removing long stretches of line is not something you even do that often as an angler unless you're re-spooling (only really when you have the rare insane tangle/backlash). Plus, one would think that some generally uncaring, litter-happy types might still not want to leave 20 yards of line for animals to get caught up in. It's much worse than leaving an empty lure package behind, for instance.
So yeah it's very weird and it would be nice if this incredibly low bar of conduct could be cleared more often. Besides the environmental costs, it also makes your average resident think fishermen are terrible, which negatively affects water access etc.

Any lake/cottage I can rent a boat or canoe to go fishing?
Looking to go on a fishing trip with my newly retired dad as he's been having a tough time reconnecting with his hobbies since retiring. We used to fish at the family cottage but he hasn't really been out to fish since we sold the place 6 years ago.
We don't own a boat or a car capable of hitching a boat trailer. Are there any places we can go to rent either a cottage or boat to go out on the lake to fish?
Thanks.

Where is a good place to fish on the Rideau canal? We are near the Vimy Memorial Bridge.
We recently moved to Ottawa area and are looking for a place to fish.
I looked at the park on River Road and there is too much brush along the canal. It’s not possible to fish here.
If anyone has any suggestions, we would really appreciate the help.

How has the bass bite been?
Haven't been out since early in the season. In the past years I recall July/August being awful for bites.
I am considering taking a week off next week to fish, but if the bite is slow, I may push it to late September.

Bass Fishing Highlights
🎣 A few bass catches from out on the water lately! 🐟
Nothing better than spending a day on the boat, chasing bass, enjoying the outdoors, and making some great memories. Some days they cooperate, some days they make you work for it — but that’s all part of the fun!
Here’s to more casts, more bites, and hopefully a few more big ones before the season is over! 🤘🎣

Accidental top-water bass
I was tossing a floating crankbait from the dock fishing about 6 ft deep and I paused for about a minute to admire the sunset. The crankbait floated to the surface and was just bobbing there and bam! this guy hit it. Lots of aerials and he put up a great fight.
