Blackadder: "I was under the impression that it's common maritime practice for a ship to have a crew?"
Captain Rum: "Opinion is divided on the subject."
Blackadder: "Oh, really?"
Captain Rum: "All the other captains say it is, I say it isn't."
Blackadder: "Oh God, mad as a brush."

Discussion Best/favourite Crown Court judge?

Post image
24 Upvotes

Crown Court was a fantastic Granada Television courtroom drama from the 1970s and 80s. I remember watching it in the 70s when I went home for lunch when I was at primary school. I’ve seen a few episodes on YouTube recently and I have to say some of the regular cast is quite brilliant, my favourite judge has to be the Hon. Mr. Justice Mitchenor, played by the sublime John Barron. Who’s yours?

I´m looking for videos on Channel 4s program from the past about the 100 or 50 Greatest, worst or any other type of list. Most of them aren´t shared on Youtube or Archive websites, but wondering if anybody has any of them to share with me. Love to see these time capsule list shows.

Here is a list from wikipedia with all of them - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/100_Greatest_(TV_series))

We’ve had tv programmes that scared you…

…but what about odd bits of telly that caught you unaware and gave you a chill without meaning to?

I’ve got two:

1) The animated motorcyclist riding face first into the camera in the titles for Kickstart (and Junior Kickstart.
2) The end of the end credits of Juliet Bravo - the badge flying out of the screen and disappearing.

Maybe I don’t like things flying towards me. Any more for any more?

Request Does anyone remember the BBC adverts that used Habanera from Bizet’s Carmen?

It was one of those ads like the current one with Romesh about “what have the BBC ever done for me?” But it was advertising BBC online with the words “the beeb dot com” in time to Habanera.

I can’t find the ads on YouTube because I keep finding clips of people singing Carmen on the BBC, or just Romesh.

My daughter was young at the time, so they must have been about 20-25 years ago and she used to really enjoy them. Recently she went to Sadlers Wells and saw Matthew Bourne’s The Car Man which uses Bizet’s story and music as a jump off point and she came home talking about how much she enjoyed the show but also when she first heard the music on “the beeb dot com” ads.

Huge gratitude to anyone who finds them.

Help with funny 70s film clip...?

I need help from someone with a far better memory than myself.

I remember as a kid watching a tv sketch comedy. It was full of short, funny film segments. One of them was of a bicyclist in a park on a sunny day. There was swirling orchestral music playing as this smiling cyclist rode & then he goes out of frame behind a bush. The music suddenly stops & we hear a big crashing sound effect!

Cracked me up! I cannot recall if that was from Monty Python or The Goodies. Does this sound familiar??

Request Parky announcing someone as "The thinking mans Danny La Rue"?

I am sorry for not including more detail in the title but I have zero memory for the context other than a weirdly vivid memory of Michael Parkinson calling someone that, I have a feeling it was a sketch show, maybe harry and paul? And while it does feel quite python I dont think it was from them.

Does anyone remember an advert about a toast spread, butter or maybe even jam. I remember the lyrics being something like “You can put it on your bread, put it on your toast and if you really want to you can put it on your roll(?)”

Then tune was “Do the Hucklebuck” or very very similar.

Noggin the Nog is a fictional character appearing in a BBC Television animated series (of the same name, originally broadcast 1959–1965 and 1982) and a series of illustrated books (published 1965–1977), created by Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin. The television series is considered a cult classic from the golden age of British children's television. Noggin himself is the simple, kind and unassuming "King of the Northmen" in a roughly Viking Age setting, with various fantastic elements such as dragons, flying machines and talking birds.

I've watched seasons one through four on iPlayer and Now TV, but I can't find the other seasons anywhere in a quality that isn't horrendous.
