Okami 2
What happen after the game award 2024 capcom doesn't even give the game an update nor had a single update at all

The announcement at TGA 2024 was meant to hearken Okami Sequel entering early development and announcing to fans “We’ve given this game the green light.” We likely won’t hear anything definitive until TGA this year or next. But it would be nice for Capcom to reveal one or two things as breadcrumbs. Maybe Amaterasu with Divine Retribution and a new Divine Instrument we haven’t seen yet. Even concept art and a statement of “Yes, we’re still working on it, stay tuned,” would be sufficient.

Even though not directly related to the sequel, the release of 20th anniversary merch, all new art and the cute interactive web event this year kept my spirits high! I’m hopeful we’ll continue to get some goodies, whether that be early concepts or otherwise, at least once a year until it drops. Which will certainly increase in volume each year as it gets closer.
My sights are on 2030 as a possible goal for the sequel release… based on literally the only fact that it’s year of the dog. Just saying lol

Yes, the new studio Clovers was just basically getting set up at the time of the announcement. They haven't been silent but two years later id not expect much, particularly if they are making things work on the RE Engine. I know the studio is mot within Capcom but Capcom has been on a hot streak since MH World that it makes sense to let Clovers cook to Cspcom's current standards

I would much prefer capcom does what re 2 remake during e3 does show the game trailer and then bam a release date

it's still very early. they probably don't even have a playable prototype yet, probably not even a graphics engine yet. they can't just slap a release date on it yet, they haven't reached a point for a schedule to be necessary. they will likely take their time with it because they want to deliver something incredible. Okami on ps2 was a unique masterpiece, and has set a huge expectation for the sequel. we may not get a release date for a while yet.

Game development takes time and it’s a very common issue that a game might be announced too early.

And announced too early it most certainly was. But I'm glad it's happening. My patience is infinite for it, I would rather never play it than have it rushed. Okami is such a delight to replay anyway, I could have lived the rest of my life with just that

Especially as a Kamiya game, he takes his time, but that's because he makes great games

Let's also not forget that okami was a ps2 game, meaning there will be a lot of more hardware power which again comes with way more possibilities of how to use it.
I mean alone the way way they optimised their game people had written their doctor studies about how to optimise it even more while still trying to keep the (unique) style.

Are we just ignoring the idea that Bayonetta 3 exists because that game was ass.

u/Narrow_Cheesecake452 5h ago
I disagree, but that's not the point. Let's reframe it. Do you know how long it took for Okami to come out? the first one? The months and years I was reading about it in Game Informer and on IGN before it finally dropped?
This is nothing.

I hope they take their time and make a masterpiece like the first game was, I don't want it to be rushed

Yeah... It's gonna be a while. If you want an idea on how far they are right now, look on this sub for some posts about interviews with Kamiya.
Last I read, they were still building out the team, though it has grown quite a lot since the first announcement. The last big hire was the original composer of the first Okami game music.
I personally think we won't see anything tangible until at least the end of 2027, maybe even 2028.
It's been 21 years... I can wait a little longer. 😄

Completely agree! I spent the last couple decades only fantasizing about a sequel. In the meantime, I got my whole back tattoo’d to honor the game and the impact it had on me when I was younger through today. I never truly imagined it would happen so when I watched the game awards announcement I had a full body emotional experience! I’ve truly never been so happy and excited for an announcement.
This game definitely is worth taking their time with as all good things take time. The way I look at it, I’ll be only more older and wiser to thoroughly appreciate what will be a work of art and the time spent patiently waiting to experience it.
Edit: word

Let me put it this way. Development of Horizon Zero Dawn and Breath of the Wild both began in 2011 and the games didn't release until 2017.
So if this game was announced as STARTING development in 2024....

Let them do their thing, this game has heavy shoes to fill or else it will be a massive disappointment

They announced the start of development in end of 2024, game development takes time. Dont expect the game to be out before 2028/2029 maybe even 2030

Playstation changing direction would mean nothing if they can't get optical drive which every major companies has stop producing in the last 10 years.

u/Ancestral_Grape 31m ago
My brother in Christ the game hasn't even been developed yet. Give them time.

They were in early conception not in actual development yet. they announced the game at the same time has the studio creation so they had to build the studio and the team first. Depend on the scale of the game i feel 2029 will be the earliest.

What did you expect exactly ? They announced the project exists for the 20th anniversary, we know that at the time the game was nothing more than words on a white board, the team wasn't even fully built iirc.
It's not like it's normal for studios to give updates on what happens internally, and it's especially true for japanese ones.

I think they announced that they were starting work on a sequel, which means it'll be at least 2-3 more years until the game comes out.

u/meguminuzamaki 6h ago
It was basically a "hey they can start working on it" my guess is 2027 we'll have a sneak peak late 2027 a trailer then hopefully mid or late 2028 we get a game and that's if we are lucky

from what I've heard, why the announced it they where still in the early/pre development stage, so it may be some time before we get any more info about it.
take it from an Elder Scrolls fan, two years is nothing.
