How many people make it?

• Upvotes

I'm going to be part of class of ~100 next year. I already have a Bachelor's Degree in an unrelated field, and I know nursing is not for the faint of heart, so I'm expecting a certain amount of dropping out as there is in any degree. No judgement, it's not the right time or right place for everyone. In your experience roughly what portion of the original class ends up graduating?

Studying Tips 📚 MN or ABSN

Hi guys, I’m in a difficult situation
I am currently in a cheap absn program and I just got a acceptance letter from a really good university and they offered a master of nursing program. The program is it’s expensive! And Both leads RN, pay is the same starting out, but the master's prepares for NP later. Family is supportive but I feel guilty. What would you do?

Studying Tips 📚 Studying improvement

Just wanted to talk about active recall!! Omg it changed my life. I got a 90 and a 95 on my last two med surg exams because of it.

I used to do active recall with only practice questions but i recently removed the multiple choice selections. Letting my gears turn and actually think hard for the answers made it stick. Also shortening words or using a different word to make a connection helps, especially with meds!

Idk if this was obvious to you guys but this way is so much easier than re-writing my notes and doing multiple choice practice questions.

I have missed my first nursing year

I'm 20 yo, I missed a year in school due to a language barrier. Originally, I spent almost all of my school years in Palestine. Although I do speak russian too, I had trouble speaking arabic during my early childhood, since I needed it to speak with my mom's family.

Anyway, I've always dreamed of becoming a doctor or any medical professional, of any sort. That's the passion I am living on.

I have applied for a nursing program (a 4-year Bachelor's) here in Newfoundland. As an international student, first i must apply for a Study permit in order for me to attend a Canadian university or college. THAT TOOK ME ALMOST HALF A YEAR, while the estimated processing time for the document to be completed it about 3-4 months from inside Canada.

well, as my email inbox is now filled with all the welcome emails and active events occurring at the uni. I'm here sitting now, almost mid-Sep, realizing that I have lost a full academic year, and my deferral request has also been denied, along with the 6,000 scholarship offered in Jan that has been removed from my profile. I have done everything I can to speed up the process, but alas, it is what it is now.

I'm genuinely interested in what I could do as a nurse to prepare myself for the next year: should i take AP courses, or should I instead attend another related online course to boost and keep my academic momentum going,

( btw, that is my first ever Reddit post )

Failed an exam with a 50%

I'm currently in my first semester of nursing school, and I'm honestly feeling really discouraged and overwhelmed right now.

I'm taking three classes: Fundamentals of Nursing, Pharmacology, and Health Assessment. I'm doing well in Fundamentals and Pharmacology, but I'm really struggling with Health Assessment.

I got an 81% on my first Health Assessment exam and a 56% on my second. We only have two exams left, and I need at least a 77% exam average to pass the class.

I've been studying really hard, but the questions on the second exam felt completely different from what I studied in the PowerPoints. Now I'm terrified of failing the class.

I've always struggled with believing I'm smart enough to become a nurse, and getting that 56% really affected me emotionally. I've been crying and feeling like maybe I'm just not cut out for nursing school.

I'm also worried about what happens if I fail one class but pass the other two. Would I have to repeat the entire semester, or just the class I failed? Has anyone been in this situation and still managed to become a nurse?

I worked so hard to get into nursing school, and the thought of losing everything I've worked toward is heartbreaking.

I genuinely want to become a nurse, but right now I'm losing confidence in myself.

On My other 2 classes I have As is just Health Assesment, the problem

I could really use some advice or encouragement from anyone who has struggled in nursing school or failed a class and eventually succeeded. How did you get through it?

I am genuinely perplexed by some people

I feel like I might have a bunch of downvotes and people pitching fits in the comments, but Im an opinionated person who isn't afraid to vocalize what I think. That being said...

I feel like based purely on their behaviors, half the students dont truly want to be here. They act like the coursework is punishment, as soon as they can leave they are OUT the door. Always looking for ways to avoid doing assignments. They seem to truly dislike all the curriculum and show little to no enthusiasm for any of it. I TA for 100 level bio classes that are geared toward healthcare majors and seeing it from that perspective is even more of a trip.

Everytime they are failing/doing poorly... "its the professors fault because A, B, C."

And its these same people who are "so excited to be a future nurse" and "im gonna be a CRNA one day" but barely passed chem, A&P1&2, bio, etc etc...

Like what am i missing?

Please fill me in?

If there is genuinely a piece of the puzzle im missing im open to changing my perspective, given some convincing insight.

Studying Tips 📚 How to get higher grades on my Exams

I 25 F am in my first semester of nursing school. I’m about to finish week 9 out of 15. I’m currently/been struggling with exams. I know testing is big in nursing school and I’m already not a strong test taker. I’ve been studying a lot and using whatever sources they recommend us to use for the exams. My professors go based off the power points during lecture and lab. At first I was picking up my grade in NUR 120 class being at a 74% (I need a 78% or higher to pass). I took my 3rd exam last week and I got 26/40. My professor did say she made the exam harder since we were all doing too good on the first two exams. Some of question were at a second semester level or just phrased in a difficult way. To be fair I didn’t spend a lot of time studying due to me having to retake my dosage exam and my 2nd exam for NUR 110 (plus I work almost full time outside of class). I’m stressing since I got a message from an academic advisor about have one or more classes that I’m currently failing (D’s in both right now) and that I need to schedule a meeting to go over studying and so on.

I’m nervous and stressed since I want to continue my education and become a nurse. I’m just a horrible test taker and I do study as much as I can and I honestly could study a bit more but I don’t know when else I could study since I already planned times and days. My testing anxiety is getting a lot better and I am able to narrow down to 2 answers and I almost end up being correct. I know I’m in a decent spot. I want to improve and not fail this first semester. I honestly don’t think I would want to stay if I have to repeat 110 and 120. Currently after a little quiz I have a 72% in 120 and I want to say I’m just below 78% in 110 (maybe at 75% or 76%). I know I have some time with maybe 1 or 2 more exams plus my final. I’m also not used to exam based graded classes. I’m used to having assignments/projects to work on to help my grade and we don’t have that sadly. I also have my co-requisite all completed before I got accepted into the nursing program so I feel like there shouldn’t be an excuse why I’m failing right now. I’m trying and I feel defeated right now. I’m doing really well in clinical and I have an amazing instructor that lifts me up and telling me that I will pass my classes and graduate. I don’t want to give up but a part of me is doubting myself so much right now. I don’t really have the time to go to tutoring due to my busy schedule otherwise I would. I just feel like I’m going to get an email from the nursing administration soon about my grades and I’m stressed I worked so hard to get here and now everything is crashing down

Pre-Nursing 🩺 Need nursing route advice?

19F and LPN school starts Feb 1st I already have a year of all my RN pre-reqs done, but I didn’t get into an RN school even with a 3.7gpa because of how competitive it was.

I was told to keep applying this year for RN school in September 2027, but I lowkey also wanna get a license right now, and the LPN program I found, it starts Feb 1 2027 and ends May 1st 2028, base pay for LPNS in my state is 35 an hour and I want to bridge over to be an RN as soon as possible.

I don’t care if Id have to go to nursing school twice but at the same time would I be making a dumb choice? I live with my parents right now so money isn’t a issue

Nursing school help with class

Hi everyone! I'm a first-semester student in an accelerated nursing program, and I'm really struggling with pathophysiology. I feel like I'm having a hard time understanding and retaining the information. I've tried YouTube, NotebookLM, Claude, and ChatGPT, but nothing seems to be helping much. Does anyone have any study tips or methods that actually worked for them? I'd really appreciate any advice!

Pre-Nursing 🩺 Will I pass my drug test?!! NSFW

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

Okay so, I quit smoking September 14 after being a chronic smoker for years. I’ve recently started getting faint negative lines on my at home drug tests specifically for thc obviously lol.

I’m starting nursing school in January and my 10 panel drug screen and background check are due December 1. Even though I have time, I really want to get everything done ASAP lol.

Has anyone passed a lab drug test with a line this faint, or should I wait longer? Any advice or comments would be appreciated :)

And no I don’t plan on smoking again it was a college thing lol.

Advice finding a Job

Hi everyone! I'm looking for some advice or job suggestions because I'm currently in nursing school and need to earn money, but I have a very unpredictable schedule.

I can work part-time, but I cannot commit to specific days or hours every week. For example, one week I might be available Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, while another week I might only be available Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday.

The biggest challenge is that my nursing school sometimes gives me my exact clinical dates only 1–2 days in advance, making it difficult to maintain a regular work schedule. I also travel with my family frequently, so a traditional full-time or part-time job isn't realistic for me right now.

I've been working as an event server and picking up shifts whenever I'm available. However, the work is inconsistent. Some weeks there are plenty of events, and I make money, while other weeks there are no shifts available, and I earn nothing.

**I'm looking for flexible jobs where I can choose my own days and hours without having to commit to a fixed weekly schedule.** Ideally, something where I can accept shifts or assignments whenever I'm available.

Does anyone have suggestions for jobs, companies, apps, or other ways to earn money with this type of schedule? I'm located in Miami, Florida. Looking to earn $300 per week and work 20-30 hours per week.

I would really appreciate any recommendations. Thank you!

Title: FIU Traditional BSN Fall 2027 - Chances of Getting Accepted?

Hi everyone! I’m planning to apply to FIU’s Traditional BSN program for Fall 2027 and wanted some advice!
I’m currently attending Broward College with a 3.8 overall GPA and am almost finished with my AA. I’ve completed most of my nursing prerequisites, including A&P I and II, Microbiology, Nutrition, Human Development, and Sociology (All A’s) I’m also a certified medical assistant with previous clinical experience.
I haven’t taken the TEAS yet, but I plan on studying for the next few months to get a competitive score.
For those who got accepted, what were your GPA and TEAS scores? How competitive was the application process, and do you think I’d have a good chance of getting in?
I’d really appreciate any advice! 💕

Nursing with dyslexia

Hello I’m finishing up my prerequisite soon and will be applying for nursing program next year. Does anyone know how charting will look like both in clinical and in class with a disability? I have heard I might be able to have speech to text but not sure. Is it possible to be a nurse with dyslexia?
