Ask North Van Weird Chemical/ Gas smell near second narrows bridge starting at 9am the last few days, anyone know what it is?

Thumbnail gallery
20 Upvotes

I live on the top floor of the apartments near the phibbs bus exchange, near second narrows. It smells like gas/ smoke it is hard for me to pin point the smell. I have called fortis BC a few times when it smells so strong of gas but my building is not a gas building, so I don’t know where that was coming from.

Does anyone else in the area notice this smell or have an air quality detector?

My air quality gets better in the middle of the day. So it must be a gas that raises especially in cold weather.

I’ve been leaving my patio door wide open at night, to let fresh air in as well as running 3 HEPA air purifiers in different rooms and have my range hood on full blast.

If I sit in the room with the air like this for a long time I start to feel pretty unwell.

If anyone knows what it might be or how I can fix this let me know.

Ask North Van Housekeeper Search

Anyone had luck using Nannyservices or Housekeeper.com? My cleaner is moving away, and I'm trying to find another but all of the companies have minimum hours and teams of two. My place is 2 bed, 2 bath and less than 1000 sq ft. We are two professionals with no kids or pets. The place is pretty clean to begin with. Current housekeeper takes 2-2.5 hours max by herself and costs me less than $100.

discussion / opinion PSA for anyone walking baby in stroller up Lonsdale!

We were walking up Lonsdale (steep hill) with our baby who was in stroller sleeping with sun shade down (face was covered). It’s quite a steep hill and didn’t think anything of it but thankfully took a peek when the road leveled out only to see baby’s head was completely tilted forward (chin to chest) in asphyxiation position!!

We could have easily not looked for another few minutes or longer as baby was sleeping potentially creating a very dangerous situation.

I’m sure most parents would think to check on their little one anyways but wanted to flag this as it’s such an easy thing to let slip!

EDIT: baby was facing us but same thing if you have them facing outwards and going downhill

discussion / opinion Ski pass for the upcoming winter season

The forecasters predict a ā€œsuperā€ El NiƱo for this winter. Elevation is the main problem for the North Shore hills. The bases sit around 900 m and the summits are only about 1200 to 1400 meters, so a degree or two of extra warmth decides whether a storm brings snow or rain. I've bought my Grouse early bird weekday pass anyway. are you purchasing yours?

I'm sure this sucked to wake up to. I saw him climb in the vehicle from about 400m away. When I approached he tried to hide in the back seat and then jumped out.

health care / health issues Physio recommendations

Hello everyone, I'm currently recovering from a clavicle surgery and fractured ribs some of my ribs are slightly misplaced. I'm looking for a physiotherapy clinic in the area that offers dedicated, one-on-one hands-on care for most of the session, with experience in manual rib realignment if that's a thing and shoulder injuries, as my current waitlist at LGH Physio is three weeks I don't think I want to wait this long as I'm already 2 weeks post surgery.

Also as anyone had any experience with the physiotherapy department at Lions Gate Hospital? Any recommendations for therapists who can provide focused mobilization and alignment work soon would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks everyone

Lost & Found Black bike bag

My black bike bag fell off my rack between Lynn Valley and the Shipyards sometime this afternoon (Oct. 7th). I retraced my ride but couldn’t find it. Nothing of major value but it fit my rack perfectly and I had a nice pair of gloves in there.

Would love to get it back. Thanks!

Hi everyone, I'm just looking to get a little more information on people's experiences with Norgate elementary recently. My partner grew up in the area and it used to have a bit of a bad reputation, but we've heard recently it's had a good turn around. Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated!

discussion / opinion North Van Coffee News

Forecast Coffee recently opened a location on Esplanade (with access via the the rear lane) and it appears they are building out another location in Central Lonsdale in the corner CRU of the Lennox building (across the street from JJ Bean).

The coffee scene in Central Lonsdale is somewhat limited - but the additions of Forecast and Small Victory in the next few months (hopefully) will be welcomed additions! ā˜•ļø
