I always thought it was because you could eat the soup from the container, and so you plan to have it in a container that fits a spoon. Tight corners means that soup may get stuck in the corner, unreachable by the spoon.
Soup is round, because spoons are round.

That’s probably it, but that’s less fun

We must be careful not to push this logic. Are salads are pointy because forks are pointy?

Pretty sure soup is round to accommodate the round spoons. If soup was square we would be using square spoons

But mouths are round, so even if you had a square spoon, round is soup's final form.

Rebuttal, it's a lot easier to drink the leftover soup from a corner than it is from the lip of a round container.

They are talking about tupperware. You're not going to heat up soup in tupperware because that's insane. But no one is putting leftover soup in a square tupperware because that's asinine.

I mean a lot people use glass tupperware that's okay to microwave nowadays. Still my soup goes in the round ones. Not the rectangular ones.

The corner of my square to go box makes it easy to just pour in my mouth and skip the spoon altogether.

i mean a bowl type container pours just as easily into my gullet just like a large cup

It’s ok to just google why bowls are round or even just think about it for a second

"I won't be explaining" as if it's a mystery and not just the association of almost exclusively seeing soup in either a pot or a bowl.... Both round vessels.

round containers have many advantages over other shapes.

Except that refrigerator space is not round.

u/InventorOfCorn 10h ago
i'm sure you could design and market a round refrigerator
2
u/Prawn1908 10h ago
Then the problem is kitchen space is not round. And going up from there you have building materials are not round (and circles aren't as efficient for packing space in a floorplan as rectangles).

I started having soup in square bowls at home. Ramen are square and don't fit in round bowls. Enjoyed myself.
