There is too much corgi here, but I understand fully.

u/Beytran70 11d ago
Corgis do have the seemingly supernatural ability to cosplay as other breeds while still definitely being a corgi.

We had a corgi cocker spaniel mix dog and he was so cool. He had a thin sandy brown coat. Was wirey built, long tail and in between small and medium built. He looked like Odie from the Garfield cartoons. He was a great bird dog.

My friend had a corgi/rottweiler, it looked exactly like a corgi just in rotti colours. Dino was great

I know the kind of dog that the meme is referencing to, but this one is a Finnish spitz

In Brazil we commonly refer to these dogs as "Caramel mutts", very common in the streets throughout the country

Lol we have something similar in South Asia/India, we call them desi kutta but apparently their official name is Pariah Dog.
Mostly brown and very lean, and they somehow subsist entirely on eating literal garbage and drinking water from puddles.

This right here is about as generic as a dog gets

I had a dog that looked exactly like this. Our vet said he’s what would happen if you out every breed of dog together in a room and let them breed for 100 years. Weirdly, his mother was a pure bred sheltie.

u/molotovzav 10d ago
Most cats just are cats and breeds are just coat colors. Cats don't have breeds like dogs do, they just have specific coat colors people breed for.

u/Veryegassy 5d ago
No... cats definitely have breeds. Got a lap siamese right now, they *definitely have a distinct body type and personality traits. Go look up Maincoones too, they're very different to "cats" (domestic shorthairs)

u/MaraTaru 10d ago
In the UK, they're often known as Bitzers. Bits of this, bits of that.
16
u/Typical_Ad_210 10d ago
Are they? I’ve never heard that term here. I most commonly hear Heinz 57 to describe this kind of dog. Sometimes mongrel or mutt, but bitzer is a new one on me!

I can never tell when someone in the UK is making up a new word on the spot or it’s really a common expression.

That's sort of the default dog look. Dingos look very similar and they descend from domestic dogs, afaik. I guess if we didn't artificially create and preserve breeds, all dogs would've looked like that.
26
u/Muted_Substance2156 10d ago
You’re right, dogs will revert back to looking like this if left to their own devices to breed. They’re called village dogs.
6
u/spaceyfacer 10d ago
r/DoggyDna taught me about how village dogs are a thing. And it makes perfect sense.
-14
u/RosenButtons 11d ago
*domestic dogs descend from them
27
u/Th3Dark0ccult 11d ago
No? Dogs descend from wolves. Then domestic dogs escape into the Australian outback, brought in by settlers, thus becoming wild dingos.
1
u/WateredDown 10d ago
7
u/kingjulia 10d ago
Settlers, as in, aboriginal settlers. People have been bringing dogs with them for thousands of years
1
u/WateredDown 10d ago edited 10d ago
I guess so, it's a bit confusing when the area is currently occupied by a different group of settlers but I concede the point.
-12
u/RosenButtons 10d ago
Yes, thank you. That does sound more accurate. But I didn't care about correcting that part since I would have had to look up whether dingos or wild dogs also came in from the cold like wolves. I just wanted to point out the directional error in the use of "descend"
I might have known once, but this morning I couldn't even remember if dingos and wild dogs were the same animal. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
7
u/_PM_ME_PANGOLINS_ 10d ago
There is no directional error.
Canis lupus lupus (grey wolf) -> Canis lupus familiaris (domestic dog) -> Canis lupus dingo

u/RosenButtons 10d ago
Yup, that's my bad! I shouldn't be commenting on anything before I'm up and have had my coffee.
Upside, I'll remember these fun facts next time. 🙂 It's always a good day when we're learning.

Which one eats babies? That's your answer!

I mean .... I think they'll both eat babies. But only one got a song about it?

I work with dogs.
These are either the best dogs ever or the absolute fucking worst balls of anxiety and violence you’ve ever seen and there is no in between.

Not sure if this is found in other dialects of Spanish, but in Mexico they call them "perros mestizos", meaning "mixed-race dogs" or, more accurately, "mutts".
Fun Fact: It's also the name for people with indigenous and European heritage. I remember laughing when we got the vet papers and saw that my dog and I technically share a race.
2
u/ExpiredLink404 10d ago
en Costa Rica son zagüates
1
u/Yeahuhhhhh 10d ago
También son "callajeros" y "solovinos" en partes de México, pero creo que "perro mestizo" es el término formal.

u/spaceyfacer 10d ago
I learned from r/doggydna about the standard "village dog". Anywhere in the world with a high roaming stray population will eventually develop into a very similar dingo-looking dog with basically the same features. Modern convergent evolution.

I had one like that. Greatest dog ever. She was smart as hell (she showed the other dogs, way dumber, how to escape the garden), full of energy and litteraly unkillable (no I mean it she survived : a run in with a car, multiple fights that SHE initiated, two strokes and lived to 22 years old when I assume she decided that it was enough and just merged with the Force or something)

A yellow dog represents a genetic average in feral populations, reverting to a natural, wild phenotype after generations of breeding without human control or intervention.
Yellow dog = village dog; rural dog; pariah; pye-dog; feral, free-ranging or ownerless dog; mongrel; cur.

u/Desperate-Win9344 9d ago
My dad used to call them "A dog brand dog" as in a dog who can´t be categorized in a single breed

More ethical than breeding dog breeds. All dogs should become generic.

If crossbred cats are healthier than purebred, then why dont we crossbreed dogs? I agree with you

My cousin brought a puppy to my house.
My girlfriend and her daughter decided to keep it.
I named him "Joe Dog"
Because he wasn't my dog he was your dog

Mutt. Term's been around for more than a century. We need to stop reinventing the existing and claiming credit.
5
u/CaptainMagnets 10d ago
A mutt is just any mixed dog though..not specifically a dog that looks like this
6
u/Tritri89 10d ago
That's a joke. "John Something" meaning "generic something". Remove your broom from your ass, the tweet never said that he invented anything.

I had a dog like this. My wife and i referred to him as "Generic Dog Model 1," his name was Oli and he was a judgemental dick.
When you think of what an average dog looks like, you are thinking of what Oli looked like.
