u/Gorotheninja, there weren't enough votes to determine the quality of your post...

Does it affect the experiment if it’s a translucent box? Nobody said anything about “slightly observing” right?

What?

1

u/Lalamedic 22d ago

Schrödinger has left the building.

Wait, you didn't edit, and even then it doesn't make sense?

To explain what I THINK you're saying, is that the cat is still in a state of superposition before you enter the room since you don't know what happened, but that doesn't work because the conditions are not adequatly defined

Either way, Schrodingers argument wast that superposition in which an argument and it's negation are both true until observed is a idea and violates the law of noncontradiction. It was co-opted by proponents of superposition through the supreme argumentative tactic of "nuh-uh"

Y’know,v there is a field called weak measurements, that sort of does this. I don’t know the details, but they try to sense a quantum system, but only slightly.

u/donaldhobson 23d ago

this level of translucency might as well be transparent.

If it's possible to tell whether the cat is alive or dead, you have made sufficient "observation".

I'm sorry, my anxiety doesn't allow me to just sit and wait 20 minutes before checking on a noise in the other room. I need to know at that moment!

u/Death_by_UWU 23d ago

I've got anxiety too but when you live with a cat (especially multiple), odd noises are often explained with "it's those idiot bastards again"

91

u/Thalia_All_Along 23d ago

yeah and that would make me wanna check it more. in case the idiot bastards hurt themselves

38

u/theLuminescentlion 23d ago edited 22d ago

My idiot bastard makes heart wrenching noises when she gets hurt. If that doesn't follow then there's no need to check.

The problem is she is dead silent when she sneaks in behind the pull out trash can thing and I close it later trapping her in there.

For real I also always assume the worst especially the louder the noise and of course thank god it’s always something harmless lmao 😭

Poor broken plates though with cats I kind of blame myself because I know they can and will access any places they can lol

And smh it’s of course mostly during zoomies time when the flat starts to sound like a warzone for 5 minutes and then quiet 😭

u/Aardvarkel 23d ago

Having a cat makes me even more anxious about an odd noise! What if he’s choking or suffocating or has broken a limb?

16

u/jackalopeDev 23d ago

Sounds like a toddler lmao

4

u/DistanceSolar1449 23d ago

Cats are smarter than toddlers, they don’t actively try to kill themselves.

8

u/dragonslayerbarbie 23d ago

I see you've never met an orange cat

14

u/Barium_Salts 23d ago

Odd noise, sure. The crash of something being knocked off my desk is unlikely to mean the idiot bastard (affectionate) is choking or suffocating.

14

u/DeapVally 23d ago

And you'd hear a lot more constant noise if they'd broken a limb lol. A crash and annoyed cat noises are quite distinct.

2

u/Actual_Maniac 23d ago

Works for clumsy people too(im one of them)

2

u/Euphemisticles 23d ago

Having two cats turns it into "they are probably just killing each other again" they don't use claws or bite too hard so I let them do it but I have seen some moves strait out of WWE from them up to and including smacking the other into a steel chair.

3

u/nightmareinsouffle 23d ago

My cat has a fun habit of getting the zoomies right when we're going to bed. So we'll just hear a random crash and then we sigh and get up to see what the nonsense was this time.

4

u/_plebbie 23d ago

I was like that once, but then I realized the noise meant it was already too late.

2

u/theLuminescentlion 23d ago

Get a cat and you'll get used to it eventually

1

u/Key_Bus_1255 23d ago

I have a cat, but she doesn't make any noise. She just sleeps all day

I loved with people long enough to accept that sometimes it will sound like a severe deadly incident but you can wait to care

Yes, but is it alive or dead?

I had a hamster when I was kid and my cat got into the room while I was away and knocked the hamster cage down. Hamster cage was broken apart I had no hope for my hamsters survival. I picked up the hamsters food bowl and it was underneath it just like the cat in the photo. Luckiest hamster ever

The idiot containment unit department will be thrilled to see their latest product put to such effective use.

This one time the cat distribution system got me with a few week old kitten. I hear this knocking noise in my place. I assume it's one of the neighbors doing idk what and I ignore the sound for awhile. Then all of a sudden I remember I have a kitten. AH! I can't find the cat, then I start following the noise. I had a book case with a sticky mouse trap behind. Found the cat. I took pics before I freed her but that phone bricked.

Additionally this same kitten always felt the need to sleep against my back in bed. One morning I rollover on my back and feel this lump. I wiggle a little to try and figure what it was. AH, DANG! it's the cat.

Quantum superposition... existing simultaneously as both stuck and un-stuck until you went and checked

3

u/SubtleTell 23d ago

As soon as I hear any loud noise I know I need to intervene in something. Ain't no way I'm waiting.

Stupid question, can it breathe in there? It looks flat on the ground

Schrodinger cat but the box is see through

1

u/Zirofal 23d ago

The kind of shit the scp foundation gotta deal with

-9

u/cAPSLOCK567 23d ago

if the cat cant just lift it off itself then wouldnt it suffocate? that is some nightmare fuel to a pet owner

14

u/mysteryvampire 23d ago

They’re not totally sealed in. You can see that the box overlaps over a weight scale on the floor where air is getting in. But I can imagine a situation where it could get very scary.
