Shell replacement
I have two ds lites. First one broke at the hinge years ago and I got another used and last night I dropped it and of course it broke at the hinge. Is ExtremeRate the best choice? I assume you can't get OEM anymore. Not looking forward to having to tear it down and risk ruining them but I guess I have to.

Yes, extremerate is the best you can get. Even if you do get OEM its old by now and more likely to be brittle.

The reason why people recommend ExtremeRate is the overall quality of the plastic as well as the designs they offer. In most cases, if you're going to do a tear down of the system, it's just better to replace everything.
However, if you want to preserve your OEM shell, you could always pick up a repro shell and only replace the broken parts. The parts on repro shells may look identical to OEM shells, but side by side you can tell the difference.

Ds lites are incredibly hard! But if you really have the right tools and a magnetic pad, you can study some videos and do it very slowly. The ribbon cables are the trickiest part.
