Get out and vote on Saturday!

If you're a Canadian citizen who hasn't voted, I encourage you to do so on Saturday before 8 pm.

Here in Burnaby, it appears that people aren't super satisfied with the majority Burnaby Citizens Association and want a change. Same thing in Vancouver, and Richmond too.

Take 10 minutes this Saturday and make sure your voice is heard by voting for as few as 1 candidate. In fact, if you vote for less than the maximum allowable amount of candidates, each one of your votes means more.

If you don't vote, you're not allowed to complain about the results!

Meet Carson Binda, the Conservative candidate for Vancouver-Quilchena, and potentially our next finance minister. He wants to gut our public services and privatize healthcare.

There's talk of eliminating the poetry panels on buses, space for which is donated by Translink. It's not like Translink sells out its ad space anyway...losing this little thing that provides moments of consolation for many would be just a shame.

[LOST] Heavy keyring, Chevy flip remote + white fob, Burnaby BC, Oct 8

Posting this for a friend who lost his keys last Thursday (Oct 8) around 9:40 PM near Smith St at Burke in Burnaby, BC. Heavy bunch of keys on one ring: black Chevrolet flip-key car remote, house keys, and a white access fob. If anyone picked these up, please DM me or text 236-866-5202 with where/when you found them. He can describe a distinguishing mark to confirm they are his. (Photo is of his SPARE remote; the lost one is the same style.)

Guitarists of Vancouver- where are you getting your setups done?

I’ve got an SRV strat that’s way overdue for an overhaul and professional set up (frets, electronics, plus general cleanup and set up, but no damage or specific issues). I’m not familiar enough with the stores and luthiers in town to know where to go. Would welcome recommendations!

I’m willing to travel in the lower mainland for the right service, but I’m in North Van if that matters. Money isn’t a huge concern, as long as I get value for it

Note: I know I’m going to get a few “do it yourself!” replies but my counter argument is: I don’t want to and you can’t make me. 😜

Unpaid training at company

Posting for a friend as he doesn’t have Reddit. He recently got a new job as a bus driver for a private owned coach/charter company and they made him go through 3 hours of training on driving on the highway/how to operate the bus. The company says it is UNPAID and refused to pay. Is this ok? The manager claims it was part of a road test/trial to see if they like him.
Edit: How to report?

iso help with cleaning and decluttering

Hi all, It's been quite a year, was laid off and have to move to a smaller space at the end of the month. Chronic disorganization has always been an issue for me and with everything piles up, I need help.

I'm looking for recommendations for organizer, professional or any sort of help with decluttering and downsizing. Ideally somebody who either is neurodivergent or knows how it's like to be one.

Thank you for reading, apologies for the TMI.

Mine did. Not happy about it. One of the wealthiest men in the city for sure and trying to use his wage slaves to keep it.

& Juliet Program

I know this is a strange request, but does anyone have a copy of the program from & Juliet at the Queen Elizabeth that I might buy/exchange for a pie/other goods/services?

I collect the programs of shows that I work on, but I think this time my copy got trashed by a well-meaning crew member.

Thank you all in advance!

Strength and Conditioning Reccomendations

Hey Nice Vancouver!

I'm looking for some recommendations for a gym that does strength and conditioning classes.

I'm in East Van but I have a car so I am willing to go to other parts of the city.

I currently go to Raincity Athletics and I really like it but their class schedule and my work schedule often conflict which has made it difficult for me to build consistency unfortunately!

Where to Buy?

Hello! Anyone here tried the QBB Japanese cheese dessert? I just want to ask where I could buy it.

I tried to check the Konbini at Robson and Aburi Market, as well as H-Mart (Downtown) and T&T (Metrotown). They don’t have it there.

WANTED: WOMEN | 27+ | Metro Vancouver

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi ladies! Are you a woman (27+ years of age) in Metro Vancouver and would like to chat, make friends, and support each other? We’d love to capture welcome you to join us! We are an exclusive online Discord community comprised of local women and we also hangout irl when our schedules align. We are a sweet bunch and once you get to know us, we are mildly to mid-unhinged, so apologies for the menacing poster. We hope that it showcases our light-hearted humour, creativity, and level of unhingedness!

Here are some answers to potential questions:

What is the group like?

We are a group of women mostly between 27 and 33 years old, although the next biggest group of us are between 34 and 40. Our active members are mostly in the Vancouver area, including North Van, Kitsilano, East Van, Burnaby, and Richmond (shoutout to our craziest member who makes the trek from Maple Ridge to hang out with us!)

We can go off the rails a bit in harmless fun and banter. Therefore we eagerly welcome sassy, unfiltered, unhinged kin alike. However we are also friendly and supportive of one another, although some light hearted competition is encouraged when the occasion calls (such as in online Discord games). If you are a woman who is looking to make new connections with other women we'd love to hear from you and add some new personalities to our warm little huddle against the Vancouver freeze. We are extra interested in scientists, doctors, financial advisors, and interior decorators as we are underrepresented in these professions. We are also looking for film investors 😄

Here are some actual quotes from the group:

  • This discord helps build a base of rapport and it’s so much easier when we do meet
  • I only went to maybe 3 [events in other reddit groups] before abandoning. it's so much cozier in here!
  • This server has been really nice and it’s been great to meet some of you in person! I didn’t really have a concept of what it meant to be in a discord server but now that I’m used to it I look forward to participating
  • You guys are also really funny, you make me laugh a lot
  • I’m glad to be here with all of you. It is hard to make friends.
  • I already love the vibe of this discord server so much
  • It’s a really great space the way you designed it and the members are all so lovely and interesting. I really appreciate the space you have created for us just the way it is
  • hiiii this is the cutest discord

Why Discord? I've never used it!

Discord is a social platform that lets us create multiple chat channels for different topics, which means different concurrent conversations can happen. Discord also gives us an easy way to discuss, plan, and organize events! This is especially helpful because we are a dynamic group of women with varying interests, hobbies, and backgrounds, so we like to yap on an array of different topics. We also like to play online games together (Wordle, online puzzles, and Magic Gardens so far), host book clubs, give tarot readings, and get together for in-person events.

Several members had never used Discord before and they enjoy learning to use it. Here are some actual quotes:

  • I like discord because I get stressed out about interrupting people in big groups. I still enjoy meetups but I'm more comfortable talking here
  • This is my first time using discord, so many neat features
  • Discord can do so many things I never even imagined

Why only for Metro Van women 27+?

The group is specifically for women in their late 20s and up because we wanted a space where people in a similar stage of life can relate to each other more easily, such as career, relationships, and adulting.

I like the vibes and I would like to join! What should I do?

If you identify as a women, are 27+ years of age, and live in Metro Vancouver, and would like to join us our crazy cult, please send me a quick intro about yourself and I'll send an invite your way. Please be patient as I go through the messages.

PS: If you are a previous or current inactive member, we have missed you and you are always welcome back!

Did you lose your keys? I found these keys on the sidewalk around 5:30 pm tonight (Oct. 13) near Kakai Sushi on Broadway. I put them up on the wall of the residential building next to Kakai near where they were found.

Warning about Telehealth VivaCare

Hi everyone,

This summer I had a virtual telehealth appointment with VivaCare for a lung infection where I needed quick antibiotics. I was set up in a call with a doctor from Surrey named Jacques Simenhoff.

After our call, I receive an email from a company called Alignable:

“Hi _____
It’s Telehealth from Viva Care Telehealth - Doctor Online in Surrey.
I’d like to be able to refer customers to you, so I’ve added you to my network on Alignable, a site exclusively for business owners to network with each other.
“

So I get it if this doctor has some insidious networking app that probably mines his contact list for him and sends automated networking emails, but this was a gross violation of my privacy and possibly also my medical information.

I reached out to Dr. Simenhoff and Telehealth VivaCare, and they both never responded or acknowledged the transgression (of course).

Edit: what bothers me to this day is because Dr. Simenhoff won’t respond to my emails about it, I still have no idea what steps he’s taken to remove my information from their database.

Lost bracelet

I’m appealing to the great people of this wonderful city!
I lost a golden bracelet. It’s meant to look like a watch strap and it has two little crowns (one on each side). This is quite special as it was my grandmother’s bracelet so if you’ve seen it. It would be really appreciated.
I’m not entirely sure where it could be but if it fell, we were walking between second beach and davie along the sea wall…
Thank you everyone!

Where can a man get his measurements taken to buy clothes?

I want to buy some men's clothing online and the site is asking for body measurements to get an accurate fit.

I was just wondering, has anyone gone to a store or tailor to have their measurements taken and if so, who have you gone to and what did they charge?

Thank you
