Vinci v2.2.0 - Companies, Calendars, and Conversation Starters

The headline feature this release is one that changes how Vinci thinks about your contacts: company pages.

Vinci now automatically creates a company page for every organization found in your contacts. All employees in one place, an RSS/Atom feed per company, and notes that sync back to #Nextcloud. If you work with a lot of people from the same organizations, and most of us do, this makes the whole picture a lot clearer.

The rest of v2.2.0 is a dense release:

  • Export to PDF: full timeline, SIM labels, inline images, remaining files listed by name. A proper record you can actually hand to someone.
  • Dual-SIM labels: name each line (Personal, Business) and every call carries that label through to Nextcloud
  • Caller preview modes: choose between a richer notification showing your last few interactions, or a full-screen card over the ringing screen
  • Relationship sparkline: a tiny 12-week activity chart next to each contact’s header so you can see interaction frequency at a glance
  • Calendar nudges: after a meeting ends, a prompt to log it when attendees match your Vinci contacts
  • Daily follow-up reminder: one summary notification at a time you choose, with Open and Mark done actions right from the notification
  • Conversation starter: a one-line prompt on each contact’s page, assembled from their standing notes and most recent interaction, so you always have something to open with

I am a bit behind with publishing the Github files and also updating the screenshots for the apps. They are still the old screenshots from the first release. This will soon be fixed.

If Vinci is useful to you, support is always appreciated via GitHub Sponsors, Buy Me a Coffee, or directly if you prefer to skip the platforms.

Recommendations for cheap (refurbished?) hardware support for min. 3 HDDs

I've seen recommendations to use decommissioned office PCs such as Optiplexs but for my use case I don't think it will work as I need something that will support at least 3 hard drives which I don't think the refurbished office PC market has? Am I out of luck for a budget friendly refurbished option?

My situation is to ditch my family's cloud backup subscription and have 3 hard drives in my home server - 1 for my data, 1 for a backup of my data and 1 for an off-site backup of my relative's data then on my relative’s home server another 3 hard drives - 1 for their data, 1 for their backup and 1 for an off-site backup of my data

Nextcloud and Mac Setup

• Upvotes

Hi everyone

I've not long found out about Nextcloud but once I did, I installed it on my remote server, downloaded the app on my Mac and I am starting to upload files. I'm keeping the files on an external drive as well just in case.

Coming from Google Drive, I am a little confused. With Google drive, I could see my files uploading when I clicked on the menu bar. I could see it chirping away file by file and the cloud icons would change on the file. With Nextcloud, I see activities but are these files that have been uploaded successfully?

I have an issue on a couple of files, a cloud icon with ! which says, "you need to authenticate before accessing this item" I check on my remote server and the file hasn't been uploaded and it's parent folder is confusing as I would had thought that this should also show that same warning, I'm sure Google Drive and iCloud did.

Does anyone know the issue?

Also, when I click on the parent folders to show the items inside, it takes a couple of seconds to show, google and iCloud were instant like if they were installed on your local ssd.

Have I set up the app correctly on my Mac? I did what it told me to but after searching this issue, it says to make sure that Nextcloud is turned on in system settings > Privacy and Security > Local Network

It's not in there and I'm not sure how to add it. Could it be because mine is on a remote server?

Thanks and sorry if this has been asked. I couldn't find anything relating to this on my search.

What do I need to do this? can someone explaiun exactly what Nextcloud is? I'm familiar with running game servers on bare metal and port forwarding and allat but never done anything like this before, would maybe also like to have selfhosted cloud storage at some point.
