Its wild how flawed republican candidates can be while dems have to be flawless. I feel we may get a reprieve with a blue house and maybe a senate, but the propaganda works too well on MAGA 🙄

11

u/NigelFratters 10h ago

Truly. All a dem has to say is "trans people aren't that bad" and it's enough to rile the whole Maga army/Fox News. Paxton is so detestable.

2

u/PaleInTexas 7h ago

Pretty much.

2

u/itsTurgid 7h ago

Because republicans know how to manipulate the public and have low enough morals to do it.

They know most people don’t read deep or fact check. So they can toss out slander and lies and they know that the follow up stories to correct it aren’t gonna be believed. That first idea has already taken root.

2

u/ralpher1 7h ago

The Dems have once in a generation charisma where they would be top candidates in any state. The Republicans are the least charismatic/likeable candidates and they still win

I agree, but dems are just as guilty as republicans in this scenario. Democrats need a perfect candidate. Republicans fall in line with whoever is on the ticket. Just look at 2016. Hillary wasn't perfect but she was clearly the better choice, and yet for months the sentiment on Reddit was geared more towards hate for Hillary than towards trump, with constant posts being upvoted with the sentiment that they weren't going to vote for Hillary because they wanted to teach the democrat establishment a lesson. I'm still bitter about that, even though I'm not sure if that actually played a part in her loss or not.

16

u/Unclefox82 10h ago

Omg with the both sides. And omg with the Hilary. Dude, 2016 was a lifetime ago at this point. The hate for Hilary was because the republican machine wouldn’t shut up about her for like years.

2

u/Acrobatic-Yak-3426 1h ago

Extremely based and true. I hate the both sides argument. This might have applied pre-trump but nowadays we have one side pushing for a televised execution...

2

u/DeepJunglePowerWild 7h ago

It really wasn’t. She was a flawed candidate far before she stepped into the limelight.

I think your argument would be better with respect to Kamala.

For one, Trump was ridiculous but certainly wasn’t known politically the way he is now. For two, Hilary was an extremely flawed candidate. She was essentially the Democrat version of JD Vance in that she doesn’t actually stand for anything except her own political expedience.

12

u/fatalspoons 10h ago

She was still way better than trump. I’ll take my downvotes gracefully if you all still want to pretend she wouldn’t have been.

4

u/TheMovieSnowman 10h ago

You being downvoted for being right is telling. We’d rather a pure candidate that matches every minute box I have than someone who generally aligns with my ideals

Hillary was a “flawed” candidate in the sense that she was the status quo. Which wasn’t a bad thing at the time.

Don't f#ck this up Texas. How is it a tight race?

8

u/Mrrrrggggl 11h ago

Texans can be stubborn, remember the Alamo.

7

u/PomegranateUsed1960 11h ago

Most republican voters vote based on fear and hate. They don’t love Paxton. They hate Talarico. They’re misinformed but it’s willful and you’ll never convince them to change their minds. Blue Texans are trying but the constant divisiveness from blue staters acting superior is f@cking annoying.

4

u/badwolfandthestorm 10h ago

Yeah, a lot of my friends are spouting the "He's twisting Christianity!" nonsense. When you're conditioned to believe that every democrat literally wants to murder babies, it's hard to break out of it.

I appreciate you all up and down this thread defending Texans. It's been frustrating for people to keep making negative comments about Texas as a whole. I love this state, and I really really really hope we can manage to elect Talarico.

5

u/ElOsoPeresozo 7h ago

It genuinely frightens me how Texan Republicans are detached from reality. A friend of mine genuinely thinks James Talarico is trans. Not that he supports trans people, not that he wants to trans everyone’s kids. That Talarico himself is trans.

My friend is a college-educated Hispanic guy who works in finance. He’s otherwise very normal, even boring. How do you counter such insanity? How can you pull someone out of such psychotic beliefs?

Oh and it gets more fun. This dude is a massive stoner, and is pissed about Texas making weed a felony, of which Ken Paxton is the main enforcer. Yet he still refuses to vote for James Talarico, because he believes Talarico is trans. Insanity.

3

u/EuropaWeGo 6h ago

Talarico has a good chance to win if people get out and actually vote. Low turn out is a major issue in Texas and is the number one reason Texas stays red.

4

u/Electrifying2017 11h ago

It’s not our fault. The trash from every state keeps exporting itself there.

24

u/verscub420 11h ago

Texas has been under Republican rule for 30 years and it seems they like it đŸ€·đŸ»â€â™‚ïž

6

u/Electrifying2017 11h ago

They love screaming about how democrats screwed everything up for 30 years.

5

u/RunePzzl 10h ago

Which is odd because dems seemingly have no power there.

3

u/verscub420 7h ago

I was talking about the Texans that specifically keep voting Republican and blaming Democrats for how bad Texas is

5

u/balerstos 10h ago

You can stop being so defensive whenever you like. The point is that Texas has elected bad republicans to office for decades now. No one is judging you. We're saying that your effort and passion, while great, hasn't led to anything. Yet. When that happens, we'll buy into the idea that it can.

Just get a democrat thats pro 2a.

Im not sure why so many Texas democrats choose to follow the national model.

Dixiecrat optics with reformist (or socialist) undertones would probably poll well.

3

u/parade1070 5h ago

Yeah Talarico could genuinely have just shut up about 2a (or outright lied cuz why not in this political climate lol) and he'd be surging in the polls

42

u/PomegranateUsed1960 11h ago

Not with that attitude! Blue Texans thank you for your judgmental divisiveness.

How do you feel when you get lumped in and told you and your attempts to do better are as worthless as the actions of your bad neighbors? How does it feel when Europeans or Canadians consider Americans a threat, including yourself? I, for one, feel fear. If shit hits the fan I'm afraid I'll get written off as evil and inhuman. For that reason, I can empathize with blues in a red state who are doing their best.

Maybe instead of feeling the need to defend a portion of Texas when you see someone justly criticizes a state for continued failures to do the right thing, you should spend that time convincing your fellow Texans to not vote for a pile of rotting garbage. And if your saying “I’ve done all I can” you haven’t because right now you are wasting your time standing up for the Blue Texans from perceived slights rather than trying to convince a Red Texan to do the right thing.

They’re not shaming the blue texans, they’re shaming those dumb enough (or craven enough) to keep voting red, or those who despite everything don’t vote at all.

5

u/OOO0OO00O 9h ago

Uvalde kind of put to bed the “Texas tough” image. You guys are gonna have to build that one back up.

4

u/Zizi_Tennenbaum 9h ago

I swear Democrats hate Texas Democrats and southern liberals more than Republicans do. I think if we flip Texas they’ll lose a punching bag, and their egos can’t take it.

5

u/ElOsoPeresozo 8h ago

They hate the fact that Texas Dems are actually in the trenches, actually working for change, actually trying to win while fighting the most powerful and corrupt political machine in the nation. Texas Dems are the most active and resilient ones in the country. They have to be.

Meanwhile, these libs from deep blue states pat themselves on the back as they vote in another do-nothing establishment Dem for the fifth time while putting in zero effort.

2

u/PomegranateUsed1960 8h ago

That’s a bingo dot gif

2

u/parade1070 5h ago

Right. It's so easy to be blue in a blue state. Half of them don't even vote. So complacent, it's sickening (I am a leftist in a blue state so I'm looking at myself too).

2

u/_trashcan 5h ago edited 4h ago

You certainly have a high opinion of yourself.

You guys do the same stuff as any other politically active person. No more, no less. I’m not sure what gives you the impression that doing things like campaigning, engaging in community, encouraging neighbors; just overall involving oneself in local politics is not a trying endeavor everywhere else.

It’s actually kinda funny as you have the polar opposite view of what you’re describing in your OC. You’re upset people aren’t grasping there is a lot of blue in red states that work hard to combat it, but you believe there’s no opposition in blue states.
There’s still a of maga in blue states. I’m in NY, & if it weren’t for NYC, this’d be a purple state at best. There’s a lot of maga pieces of trash despite being one of the “bluest” states.

it’s also ironic to make fun leftists for who they’ve put into office, when all you’ve succeeded in is putting the absolute worst of the worst imaginable people into office.

4

u/HeavyVoid8 10h ago

Totally different type of candidate tbh

81

u/RudeAndInsensitive 11h ago

Beto's best polling had him losing by 4pts. Talarico's worst polling has him winning by 1pt. Not saying Talarico will win but he is in a lot better position than beto.

2

u/Jafar_420 7h ago

I don't really trust the polls personally but anything I've seen talking about it says that JT would need to be up something like 15 or 20 points in the polls to win.

2

u/mademeunlurk 10h ago

I don't trust polls anymore. Betting websites have proven to be far more accurate political predictors.

3

u/overts 9h ago

Why? Polls missed wildly in 2016 but otherwise have been pretty reliable.

→ More replies (7)

3

u/RudeAndInsensitive 9h ago

Well then if that is your angle the prediction markets have Talrico at around 70% to win......which coincides with YouGov's prediction

2

u/HLOFRND 9h ago

I take polls with a grain of salt generally, especially post 2016.

Here’s the thing.

It’s not just a few polls, it’s all of the polls, even internal polls done by the GOP. (It’s why they’re panicking so much.)

Even more than that, there’s one thing that remains true- people vote with their wallets. And not in the “buy from companies you like and boycott the ones you don’t” way this time. Nothing moves people at the polls more than not being able to put gas in their trucks and food on their tables. People may not be moved by law breaking or social issues, but they hate being poor. And there’s no way around it- the sitting president and the GOP have directly contributed to gas prices over $4 and insane inflation and tariffs.

But even taking THAT in stride, I’m very interested in what Sarah Longwell from the Bulwark has been doing. She’s been doing insane numbers of focus groups for a few years now, and she plays snippets from interviews a lot. Over and over and over people are saying the same thing. They just can’t keep voting for this. It’s not funny anymore. It’s not worth “owning the libs” when people literally can’t make ends meet due to political shenanigans.

Idk. I don’t think any of these races are guaranteed, and even if we win, they will still be far too close IMO.

But Talarico is a fantastic candidate. He’s an outspoken Christian. He’s in seminary, working to become a pastor. He is calm and collected. He’s kind. He’s exactly the kind of candidate who COULD win in Texas. If anyone has a shot, he certainly does.

Again- maybe we will still lose, but man. As cynical as I am, and as hesitant as I am, I really don’t think this is just copium. I think we have a better shot than we ever have.

The biggest risk we have with the polls is the chance that too many MAGA are too hesitant to participate so they are under represented in the polls. That, along with gerrymandering and refusing to process voter registration and the rumors of national guard at polling places, is what could sink us.

2

u/chillax63 9h ago

Not doubting you, but is there an analysis you can share that shows that?

9

u/RudeAndInsensitive 9h ago

No there isn't. Prediction markets are too young to have enough data to have any meaningful comparison to polling.

Beto said something stupid about guns when runni g for President and it was every TV ad leading to the election. Texss loves theirs guns too much. Talarico has given them a lot less fodder so far, so they are largely trying to manufacture stuff. Still could happen, but there is a lot more Republican hate right now too

9

u/yesmoreeggtalk67 11h ago

Not to mention that many Republican leaders in Texas are furious at Trump for ruining their Cornyn coronation. I think you'll see a lot of republicans just sitting out this election.

5

u/BalanceJazzlike5116 10h ago

It’s crazy that they primaried cornyn. That dude was almost majority leader he lost out to thune. He would easily beat Talarico. I think Trump sees himself in Paxton and that’s why he endorsed him

5

u/yesmoreeggtalk67 10h ago

He just wanted to stick it to Cornyn because he dared to put up a token resistance.

2

u/BalanceJazzlike5116 9h ago

Maybe. But he sees an impeached, philandering, criminal and wants to see Paxton make it, because it means he can make it. Same reason he keeps calling for Bibi to get a pardon. He was convicted of fraud and the judge didn’t sentence him because he won election. What will the judge do when trumps term is over? Make him go to jail?

It should be added for clarity, because it’s important: Beto barged in to an NRA assembly to confront Abbott about his responses to Uvalde, and Abbott could not look more pleased at that.

It was at that moment Beto lost. He walked right into the heart of gun culture and screamed at an immovable wall. His heart was absolutely in the right place, but too many people simply either were that ignorant about affairs or loved their guns too much. To them, it was just affirmation that Dems are coming to take their guns away.

I'm guessing you meant to say Talarico? Lol

u/walkscotter 10h ago

I had 23 different takes on «betting markets» but I got a heartache.

3

u/fartlebythescribbler 8h ago

I just don’t see how Beto can win this one tbh

2

u/Lost-Platypus8271 5h ago

It’s controversial but my money’s not on him either

That means nothing. People all over the world can make a bet. They cant actually vote. The polls say much more.

u/Spankpocalypse_Now 11h ago

And he shouldn’t. Beto ran hard on an anti-gun platform which is a poison pill down there.

7

u/6beerkdawg 11h ago

Beto was never ahead once in the polls.

4

u/allison_mossie 11h ago

Beto was never ahead in polling

3

u/Manfred_Desmond 11h ago

Talarico didn't say he was gonna take away ar-15's, did he?

3

u/Daverdfw 10h ago

beto never led 1 poll. He got very close but never led.

3

u/happyexit7 10h ago

Yeah, why spook moderate Texas voters by having Bernie even near the state.

3

u/Tommyblockhead20 10h ago

Two completely different situations. Beto was down on average 7 points in the polls, people were just hoping for a long shot upset win since that’s closer than usual for Texas and a couple polls (out of dozens) had him tied or ahead . And he did perform really well only losing by 3 points. For comparison, Talarico is averaging ahead by 3 points. Either way the same polling error as Beto, that would be ahead by 7 points. Almost all polls have him ahead. He isn’t guaranteed to win, but I wouldn’t be so confident he is going to lose just because Beto did after people thought he might win. Because again, they are very different situations right now.

u/cidthekid07 11h ago

This ain’t 2018.

2

u/balerstos 10h ago

It's absolutely going to be this way and folks with scream conspiracy instead of just realizing that Texas would rather elect a corrupt guy who cheats on his wife than a Democrat who has a degree in theology.

Means he can be somewhere else to spread the same message. This is spin.

2

That was my thought as well. Spread out and reach more people instead of teaming up for just one event.

Yeah, shii like this contradicts the notion that Texas is Purple, not Red/Blue. If it was Purple, the political demarcation would clearly between every major metro in Texas and it's rural surroundings.

Also, less registered voters in Texas participated in the 2024 elections and that was a Presidential election

2

u/LengthinessWarm987 3h ago

I mean it doesn't help that when in power Dems consistently failed to pass national legislation to curb the power of southern states to enact wide-scale voter suppression.

5

u/Lazy-Background-7598 11h ago

Don’t freaking do this again Texas

By Jesus Mesa — Reporter |

Democratic Texas Senate hopeful James Talarico will not appear alongside Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders when the progressive independent brings his national tour to the Lone Star State next week, as new polling shows Talarico's lead over Republican Ken Paxton in some polls shrinking inside the margin of error.

Sanders is scheduled to hold his "Fighting Oligarchy" rally in El Paso on Monday, October 19, with former Texas Representative Beto O'Rourke and Texas Representative Greg Casar, both Democrats. Talarico won't attend, his campaign told The New York Times on Wednesday.

Honestly, after having the flu for over a week, Talarico needs to catch up in the big metro suburbs. El Paso is not a great place for him to be campaigning right now. I wish he could do both. I wish he hadn’t been sick. But he needs to be in Arlington, Plano, and Katy.

This state is so cooked.

2

u/Standard-Mechanic101 10h ago

Ignoring the left is a democratic specialty.

2

u/NOLA-Bronco 10h ago

If this is stemming from the consultant brainrot logic that it makes Talarico appear too "leftist" or whatever, this is stupid.

Bernie is the most popular politician in America outside Obama. And one of the most popular amongst Republicans.

And Talarico needs to ensure the economic populist energy that delivered record turnout for him in the primaries from low propensity and young voters doesn't dissipate.

Cause that will also cost him the election.

If Texans are dumb enough to vote for Paxton, they can luxuriate in the absolute suckage that is coming for them.

2

u/BadPumpkin87 7h ago

This is a smart move. Sanders should keep his nose out of swing states where he will drive up Republican turnout with his antics. Stick to blue races where he can’t turn off enough voters for Dems to lose.

2

u/DrSmotpoker42-0 6h ago

Why is Bernie holding a rally in Texas? He should be keeping his distance right now, it can’t possibly help Talarico or Hinojosa for him to be in the news there.

Bernie Sanders exists solely to push forward the BernieBrand. It is correct to skip this ANCIENT man yelling at clouds.

Not a good look, gotta embrace democratic socialism for a chance to win. Wonder what was going on during those 2 weeks? Corporate dems must have got to him.

1

u/Calm_Stress3334 10h ago

little little attention to the news because the news intention is to drum up eyeballs so they’re going to say the massive and then it’s and going to narrow and going to and everybody’s going to stare at it up until the last day where they’re going to say it’s a dead heat

1

u/Fancy-Dingo-6472 10h ago

The scary thing isn’t Talarico losing, it’s Paxton winning. He is a sinister man with the worst of intentions. So corrupt that his own party tried to oust him. He fully supported the Jan 6th insurrection and tried to lead a behind-the-scenes coup to ignore the election results and plant Trump as a permanent king.

1

u/Miserable-Strain74 10h ago

Texas doesn't deserve ppl like Talarico anyway; let the leopards feast

1

u/Huh-what-2025 10h ago

Bernie doing the Bernie thing ( like he always does)

1

u/Party-Example274 10h ago

Didn’t he just get out of the nuthouse?

1

u/twofourfourthree 10h ago

Curious, has Talarico appeared onstage with Beto in the past?

I just saw mostly maga hit pieces putting them together.

1

u/crazy010101 10h ago

Well we can only hope enough come out and vote blue. But Texas has shown too often to just keep voting red.

1

u/King_Swift21 10h ago

Talarico is doing the smart thing.

1

u/Novalll 10h ago

Why are bots in here saying Talerico is going to lose lol. There’s a ton of enthusiasm for Talerico in Texas. It’s visible to anyone in this state.

1

u/Ryumancer 10h ago

VoteHub has Talarico slightly favored to win. Around a 62% chance...if that's relevant to anyone here.

1

u/Cheap_Ad_242 9h ago

Texas is going to be Texas but **** this guy playing a progressive when he's a disingenuous jesus cultist.

1

u/HH_Creations 9h ago

I dont care if you think he will win or not

I could be the only d*** person to vote for him. In my county, but i'm going to do it because it's the right thing to do

Encourage every democrat, you know, to go out to the polls

Make them BE concerned, dont make it easy

1

u/WaterGlassPuncherMan 9h ago

How tf can this even be a race?

1

u/Suitable_Cheesecake7 9h ago

If Texans elect Ken Paxton, they deserve to be treated like the dog shit on my heel. After everything he's done...he wasn't even in America for its 250th birthday! He was in LONDON, the capital of the country we FOUGHT THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR AGAINST! Oh yeah, and all the crimes, but Republicans never gave a damn about that.

1

u/2PumpPatriot69 9h ago

Talarico is going to smoke Ken "unchristian cheating on wife and American values" Paxton

1

u/rdogg4 9h ago

Good. The Sanders kiss of Death

1

u/FunLife64 9h ago

Not sure this is helpful. Also, Bernie, nobody knows what “oligarchy” means in this country.
Most can’t even pass a basic citizenship test.

1

u/Uncle-Cake 9h ago

If he's doing this because he wants to appeal to moderate and centrists, he deserves to lose.

1

u/Mulberry-Spiritual 9h ago

Newsweek, really?

1

u/mydaycake 9h ago

Why are Sanders and Beto trying to undermine Talarico?
