Moose is the big guy, he'll be 4 on 12/10, and bear is working on 5 1/2 months. They play rough everyday, exactly what I had hoped for when getting a second newfy. They really enjoy each other's companies.

Gnardia help

Hello. My name is Cheyanne. I have a 4 1/2 month Newfoundland pup. I live in KY went 4 hours into TN for him. Breeder Delayed the pickup date to him having diarehhia. Once I got him, nothing was changed. I scheduled his vet appt within the first week of having him. I was unable to give him a stool sample because it was so runny I was able to take. He had a follow up because he was low on iron. We followed up iron was great I was able to obtain stool sample. Vet confirmed he does have gnardia. He put him on panacur for a week. I was giving him the script for the week and changes were happening. But then after it would go back to runny smelly etc. Well the following week I had to take him to the emergency vet for puppy strangles (Juvenile Cellulitus). So he within the 2 weeks I followed up with my regular vet and they cleared the strangle but said he still has the gnardia so they gave me another round of panacur based off his weight.

I am asking for help at this point. I fear that I am dumping my money into this vet them giving me the same thing and nothing is changing he still to this day has gnardia and its been going on ever since I got him. I want to help him. Ive changed his diet, etc

This picture was taken moments before he started chasing his tail. He started chasing his tail so fast he turned into a tornado, destroying our living room. We never saw him again. We don’t know where we went wrong.

It was very warm and sunny all day, not sure why they prefer to be on the surely quite hot sidewalk but I don't ask questions

My newfie walks while he poops?

I have a 5 month old newfie saint bernard mix. This is my first time having a dog of this breed and I don’t know if this is a breed specific thing or just a him thing. But everytime I take him outside to poop he likes to walk while hes pushing it out. Often times in a circle or just a line. It makes picking it up annoying because its not in one spot. Sometimes I will miss a turd and almost step in it. Im curious if anyone elses dog does this, and if there is a way for me to train him into not doing it anymore.

Bath time and Fur management?

Post image
217 Upvotes

How do you bathe a 150+ pound dog who is supposedly supposed to love water? My girl Lucyfur, "Lucy" has to be taken outside once a week for bath time. In the warmer months this isn't an issue but, in winter it's impossible. She absolutely hates water, so I have to chase her down and just dump water on her to rinse. She loves the snow, so in winter I just let her roll around in it. She's getting up there in age as well, with hip issues starting to manifest, so climbing in and out of a vehicle is a no go anymore.

My sweet boy and anticipatory grief

This is a sad post. I just was to share some photos of Sam and talk about what a good dog he is.

Sam has been my best friend for the past 6 1/2 years. He has been with me through marriage, divorce, and tremendous loss. My life has been mostly tumultuous but he has been by my side every step of the way. Next spring he will be with me for another milestone when I have my first child. I always wanted to get a camper so I could take him on adventures, and this summer my spouse and I finally did it. As the season is coming to an end I have just been hit by a huge wave of grief knowing that I have less time left with him than I've had with him. He has arthritis in a back leg that is only getting worse, and now has it in a front leg. Most days he is fine, others if he moves slightly wrong he can't stand unassisted for days. It breaks my heart that such a happy loving animal can be subject to something so painful. Medication aside, he is starting hydrotherapy next week and I'm looking into laser treatment as well. I hope that these can help manage his pain better and keep him active for years to come.

What to know before getting a pup? Is it a good decision?

For context, we currently have a (lazy) 4 yo GSD who has social anxiety, and are looking for a good friend for her to help with socialization. We had always taken her to public areas as a pup, but eventually something flipped in her mind and she is not a fan of strangers these days (not aggressive, mostly scared 😞).

Our neighbor, when they moved it, had a Newfoundland who would always come over and chill in our yard when we were out - even tho they didn’t know us - and just seemed so happy to be making new friends.

My questions are: 1) are Newfoundlands really some of the chillest/easier socialized dogs (have seen this in various posts when researching) and 2) how much should we be looking to spend for one?

Any info is appreciated from your experience with this beautiful breed 🥰

Edit: we have personally raised a Husky and a GSD mix before, but also grew up with both of these breeds (and malamutes) so just trying to get a feel how Newfies fit in to this equation.
