In the last 4 years, the World Series runner up has always been a team that got destroyed by the Mets in the regular season
2022: Mets were 14-5 against the Phillies, Phillies lost the WS
2023: Mets were 6-1 against the Dbacks, Dbacks lost the WS
2024: Mets swept Yankees 4-0, Yankees lost the WS
2025: Mets swept Blue Jays 3-0, Blue Jays lost the WS
The only team left in the playoffs that got destroyed by the Mets this season were the Guardians, who got swept by them (Rays also lost series to the Mets, but I wouldn’t consider that as “destroyed”), therefore the Guardians will win the ALCS and lose to the Brewers/Dodgers

Seems the edge a championship team needs is the humbling realization that if you can lose to us, you can lose to anyone so you better lock the fuck in

I miss the 19 division games a year vs the current weirdness where the Mets don't play some of their own division until June.

Dodgers losing the Skubal and Yamamoto games is a very very bad omen. You gotta win those games. We'll see if they come back and if I'm wrong
8
u/0rangePolarBear Jacob deGrom 1d ago
It’s crazy that they still have Snell - Glassnow - Skubal - Yamamoto - Snell for the rest of the series. They definitely have a hill to climb though. Brewers have looked really good this series so far.
4
u/Caledor152 Starling Marte 1d ago
Yup well said Orange just really amazing AB's from the Brewers and clutch hitting. Yup Dodgers still have the ability to come back for sure and prove me wrong. It's up to the Brewers to keep the pressure/momentum going
6
u/Working-Reaction8612 1d ago
At the same time Brewers can't afford to lose Miz and Henderson games because there is a big drop in quality after them in their rotation. Bottom line is it's never good to be down 2-0 though.
12
u/metskyfan 1d ago
Not super surprised the Brewers are beating the Dodgers. The Brewers are a very good team. I would be very surprised if the Guardians beat the Rays.
10
u/Unlockpentoman Mr. cum 1d ago
I still remember that guardians series, so if the guardians win the World Series, would we technically be the best team in the league?
6
11
u/Prestigious_Money447 New York Mets 1d ago
of course the dodgers still have a ton of talent and can win this series, but we often see this with “dynasties” where at some point they just run out of gas.
7
u/Caledor152 Starling Marte 1d ago
Yep this Dodger lineup is clearly getting old and Ohtani is clearly very hurt I mean hes like a AAA hitter out there rn... Awful... luckily for them he is still able to get on base once ina while and score. But outside of that he is a negative value hitter in that lineup. And most of their lineup isnt hitting much either
Even by some miracle they get to the WS anyway. This is not the same lineup we had to face in 2024 quality wise. Not even close. OMG beats this 2026 older version. Unfortunate
5
u/GonvVasq Grimace 1d ago
Shohei is too banged up to be productive, maybe going hard for the Cy Young at the start of the season might cost them a ring
2
u/butz-not-bartz Home Run Apple 1d ago
Ironic that the one guy who was trying in the regular season could cost the Dodgers.
2
u/Prestigious_Money447 New York Mets 1d ago
yes Ohtani is a major factor but when paired up with a hungrier, more energetic team, all of the sudden the Dodgers look old, slow, and listless. Just a couple years ago KC was trying to get a three peat, they sort of went through the motions that year and won a lot of close games in the playoffs, got to the Super Bowl and got their ass handed to them. They looked like they didn’t belong on the same field even though this team won the last two super bowls and went 15-2 that year. sports are funny.

u/Setec-Astronomer 1d ago
He didn't hurt his knee pitching.
4
u/GonvVasq Grimace 1d ago
I'm sure his constant knee inflammation on his landing leg has nothing to do with it

If it goes 7 the Dodgers will win.
Brewers must win at least one of hand 3 or 4.
Because the Brewers aren't winning both Skubal and Yamamoto games again.
So to avoid a game 7 they need to win game 3 or 4 (or both).

Why are there dirtsheets connecting us to Alec Bohm. I want nothing to do with that greasy goblin.
8
u/tenthsandwich Bartolo Colón 1d ago
the real answer is "Alec Bohm's agent"
if you see news like this that's just sort of out there in the air and it isn't directly coming from a very reputable sports reporter, the answer is always the agent
7
u/Steve_Kind_Of Pastrami 1d ago
We've already seen how Mets fans feel about just letting Pete go period, feels like if they sign Alec Bohm to be the next first baseman fans are gonna straight up do a January 6th on Citi Field
3
u/Orange8920 Mike Piazza 1d ago
I feel like I never hear dirtsheet outside a wrestling context where I'm also expecting Dave Meltzer to be behind this.
-2
u/lilleff512 Forever my Captain 1d ago
Because we need a first baseman and Bohm is one of the better first basemen available in free agency this offseason. We will continue to be connected to him until we sign a first baseman or he signs with another team.
8
u/NuanceManExe 1d ago
So in other words it’s a terrible class. We don’t want to be connected to Bohm.

May have spoken too soon about the Rays having a cakewalk to the WS no matter who they face
3
u/jimihenderson 1d ago
i can't fathom how anyone could have failed to grasp the unpredictability of playoff baseball by this point. no offense.
8
u/Prestigious_Money447 New York Mets 1d ago
The team with a better record has won every playoff series so far.
2
u/jimihenderson 1d ago
That could be true for 10 straight years and it wouldn't change the fact that in year 11 the WC3's could meet up in the world series
2
u/Steve_Kind_Of Pastrami 1d ago
Oh the playoffs are absolutely a crapshoot, none of my opinions have a "and thats FINAL" implication to them. Think maybe I confused the Rays pantsing an easy opponent in the Yankees with the Rays being unstoppable period lol

-4
u/wooden-spoon-88 1d ago
He's went 4IP 1ER last time. He's looking pretty shaky right now - not inducing a lot of hit & misses, lots of foul balls. I don't buy the "Rays fixed him" narrative tbh I'll be surprised he goes through the Guardian lineup more than once or twice

He looks like the same pitcher tbh
7
u/romanticynicist 1d ago
Since he went to the Rays he ditched the windup and is throwing way more changeups and less sliders/sweepers.
He threw exactly 0 sliders or sweepers tonight.
Pretty different pitcher tbh

Six scoreless innings from Peralta… you simply have to laugh folks
3
u/Orange8920 Mike Piazza 1d ago
Good for the Rays, Petalta's success has little to do with the Mets at this point nor was he the one difference maker from them making the postseason.
It validates that Stearns wasn't wrong to sign him but something wasn't clicking there. It's not exclusive to the Mets, happens to other teams as well.
4
u/imalmostconvinced Pete Alonso 21h ago
It was a trade so yes he was potentially wrong. "Not the one difference maker". Yeah, keep Pete and Nimmo (platoon DH, anyone is better than Semien + needed him while Soto was out and Nimmo if the better outfielder) plus not sell at the deadline and they would have had a lot different season.

Didn’t see the game but I see that Peralta went 6 scoreless. I’m glad the Rays won but man do I feel salty af. Saw the postgame show interview with him & they were asking how were things different for him coming from a team that wasn’t good to being in 1st place. It was a gut-punch.
1
u/imalmostconvinced Pete Alonso 21h ago
Apparently Steve Cohen was there lmao

Disgusting. I hope he enjoyed watching a team that was well-constructed. I hope he also got to see how a good coaching staff works

All I can say about Peralta is that the whole "he just can't handle New York" thing is fucking real (not like anyone has any doubts though, just another proof)
13

That’s part of it. He’s legitimately pitching differently with the Rays though, it’s been talked about to death at this point.

u/Orange8920 Mike Piazza 1d ago
There's other pitchers on the team who had fine seasons this year and even Peralta looked good early. I don't think it's an indictment on the Mets that a veteran pitcher stopped pitching well for them.
6
u/blozout Jared Young 1d ago
The Rays coaching staff (particularly pitching) is definitely elite. I think we tried to do too much with Peralta and ended up breaking him, whereas the Rays had him focus specifically on a few things at and it worked. If I recall correctly they had him pitch exclusively from the stretch and move to the 3rd base side of the rubber on the mound. 2 things that basically remade him. Maybe mix in some more off speed stuff as well.
2
u/Orange8920 Mike Piazza 1d ago
Something similar happened to Edwin Diaz where it took the Dodgers minor league catcher to help him make adjustments.
It happens, no team's pitching coaches are perfect. Peralta was not getting it done in New York and it was absolutely the right move to trade him while he still had some value.
2
u/Hustlediva 1d ago
Seriously if this doesn’t shine a light on how bad the Mets coaching & environment is then I don’t know
1
u/Strict-Knowledge-566 1d ago
What's more likely, the Rays are better at developing good pitching or NeW yOrK cItY iS sPeCiAl!
1
u/Dazzling-Attorney891 New York Mets 18h ago
Yeah I’m sure pitching in New York is much more pressure than taking the mound in a playoff game
Just delusional
-1
u/PeterJan85 1d ago
Especially when he was brought in to be an ace. Most can’t handle New York. I bet you if you put Devin Williams on the guardians, marlins, or royals, he would return to being a top 3 closer.

Jarrett Seidler had a long discussion about the Mets job posting on the latest episode of FAYKOT and he did not like being quoted or taken out of context
5
u/Caledor152 Starling Marte 1d ago
This is another phantom IL situation where we are blamed for the majority of MLB teams doing the exact same thing. It's called a Passion Tax and it sucks and true Steve should be paying more but its a systemic problem all over Baseball (and the country honestly)
Front office employees, scouts, and support staff would basically need to make their own Union seperate from the players union to actually fix this. The players union can't help them in the CBA
Shame on Steve he should be paying more for every role and not just the most important roles. That's what I would do. But this is the problem with these internet sports guys. They are not careful in how they word things and explaining context. They don't realize how the other fanbases will spin it because they don't think strategically in how they speak.
8
u/0rangePolarBear Jacob deGrom 1d ago
I have to also assume Cohen is not assigning salaries to these roles. He has a team to determine appropriate pay range on what it takes in the marketplace, and unfortunately the sports marketplace pays nothing because people are so desperate to work in it as you said.
-1
u/lilleff512 Forever my Captain 1d ago
Probably right that Cohen isn't deciding whether someone with an "Associate" job title is making $20/hr or $25/hr but Cohen should be directing whoever is assigning salaries to these roles that we want to pay more than any other team in baseball so we can attract the top talent.
6
u/brett_baty_is_him Brett Baty 1d ago edited 1d ago
I listened to like half of it in and out of sleep but pretty sure Jarrett pointed out that while a lot of teams do pay shit for those roles, there are good teams that pay better for those roles and there are even equivalent roles that other teams have open right now that are paying much better than the Mets. Jarrett did say there was sort of like an old school “hazing” mindset in baseball where guys think that these younger people need to cut their teeth getting paid like shit
He also said that the Mets gave him an answer about these roles that he found unconvincing. Seems like they told him some version that they were probationary roles for a better job based on what he said.
So it’s not truly just “Mets getting blamed for something everyone does”. Mets should be paying much more if they want to seriously compete with the other good teams since other teams are paying for the top talent. He pointed out that teams like the Braves and brewers figured out that paying your analysts better gives you a better talent pool of analysts which actually saves you money because you can get cheaper players that are better than the $2m you’d spend on a middle reliever
1
u/Caledor152 Starling Marte 1d ago
I was not defending the practice. You see this is what I'm talking about. You are the doing the same thing /r/baseball is doing. Somehow spinning it where it's mostly only the Mets when the problem is very much systemic across Baseball. The Passion Tax is not exclusive to the Mets nor is it exclusive to Baseball. Nothing I said was a lie
Should Steve Cohen be paying top dollar for all his positions with his money? Yes 100% and shame on him for not doing that I am not defending him personally.
I can pull up the Dodgers right now and find positions that are severly underpaid compared to the cost of living that the team resides in. I can do this for a bunch of teams and find the same problems.
There was only one post in /r/baseball lately about this sytemic problem by a Dodgers fan specifically targeting the Mets and not including his own team as he should have. That's the problem im talking about. If you actually care about workers rights and salaries it should be consistent
4
u/GonvVasq Grimace 1d ago
It is systemic, but the point Jarrett was making is that the REALLY good teams are not doing this type of shit, and there is no reason for the Mets to be doing it since we're supposed to be using Cohen's deep pockets. They're stepping over dollars to pick up a dime
6
u/Caledor152 Starling Marte 1d ago
Yes really good teams are doing this type of shit. The Dodgers absolutley offer low compensation for frontline operational roles compared to living costs in LA. Almost retail level pay for some of those roles for LA standards
And it's not just the Dodgers/Mets either.
And I have to say it once again since people keep implying im defending this practice. I think it's a horrendous practice and every team especially ours should be paying top dollar.

u/CoolRequirement939 Bartolo Colón 1d ago
Dodgers fans are convinced JDP is the second coming of Juan Soto, after 30 professional at bats, and want to swap Ohtani for him right now.
I want what they are smoking
4
u/0rangePolarBear Jacob deGrom 1d ago
JDP is legit. Ohtani is hurt, so swapping him for a Ohtani isn’t a bad idea right now.

u/The_New_Illuminati Mr Smile 1d ago
Am I the only one who had alarm bells go off when Peralta specifically said that the rays are committed, and the team felt different? This isn't the first time we've heard it inferred that the Mets clubhouse is a lazy atmosphere.
4
u/imalmostconvinced Pete Alonso 21h ago
You needed quotes to tell you this? The Mets let Matt Seelinger and Robert Stock pitch games and fans actually embraced it. It must be wild to care about all 162 games. Let me know when the Rays have Zach Short on their Opening Day roster
5
u/Doc-Spock 21h ago
I mean...doesn't everybody say 'Yo Dawg, this team is built DIFFERENT! We are here to win! I'm in the shape of my life! Vote for me and I will make you rich!'
9
u/tenthsandwich Bartolo Colón 1d ago
No matter what happens, people will be able to find evidence to support whatever their existing position is. If they think the Mets are lazy or toxic, they'll find evidence. If they think the Mets are a good or normal clubhouse, they'll find evidence.
For what it's worth, it's probably not a good indicator that Peralta recovered so dramatically in TB, but it also might not mean anything damning. But also "the Rays want to win and I am happy here" is what any professional ball player is gonna say about their current club, especially if both things are true.
What's he gonna say to the press, "meh, same shit different city" or "yeah thanks for having me Tampa Bay but this team suuuuuuuuuuuuckssssssssssssssss"
3
u/Hustlediva 1d ago
The question “how were things different coming from a team that wasn’t good to being on a 1st place team” really cuts hard
1
u/Orange8920 Mike Piazza 1d ago
The Mets basically gutted the core that was there for a good decade with a bunch of new people and are essentially starting over.
Peralta is also on a playoff team and one that's made it more often than not the last 10 years. It's like saying the Dodgers have a winning culture, like of course.
2
u/Which_Answer_1300 1d ago
Cleveland this is your chance at the WS as your Daddy (Soto) is sitting at home this go around .. take advantage 🤣
