Image ‘86 memorabilia

While cleaning out our basement last week, my mom discovered a true treasure: The Mets’ 1986 yearbook in surprisingly great condition — I’m assuming this was purchased by my dad (RIP) for both the 25th anniversary of the Mets, and to (maybe) have a future heirloom to commemorate the birth of his first child (me) in July of ‘86. Who knew they would go on to win the World Series this year!? Great find, mom ☺️

I was not of age either but I'll never forget it. I enjoy beer greatly. And baseball.

Hello fellow ‘86er. May we one day witness a Mets World Series win at an age where we know what is going on

I miss those ticket prices. 9.50 for field level? Jesus!

Nothing like washing down a Kahn’s hot dog with an RC Cola as Gary Carter sends a blast toward the Marlboro sign at Shea.

Is there a picture in this one about the players’s off-season jobs?

I didn’t see that but there’s an ad for a Mets fan appreciation cruise!

I wonder which six players ended up going.

I remember that ad- can you imagine the debauchery that could go down if the right combo of players were on the boat?
Ahhh… the Eighties…

And after a WS win?! I’m sure it was insanity.

I got this one as well when I was 6 and kept it in good condition somehow for 40 years

I miss when the regular season started in April. March was solely for spring training games.

My mom has this and got it signed by a few of the members on the team (I do not remember who, I was overwhelmed by the amount of Koosman and Kranepool autographs she had stashed in the same bin). She has a whole bin of signed stuff and I was looking for something in her garage. I opened it and it was like a detector, she came right outside and said DON'T TOUCH MY PRECIOUS MERCH. My mom is so cool (I want to steal it from her but would never)

I have this.. I bought it in 1986 and that is the logo they used that year (25th Anniversary). It's was also on their scorebooks and I got Ron Darling to sign this one back then.

My dad is pictured with Mookie Wilson, his wife Rosa and their youngest daughter on page 88.

After seeing these comments,  I started searching. I have one of these, also an official program.  And a hard cover book - The First Quarter Century - written by Donald Honig.

Look at those ticket prices!!!

I used to collect all the yearbooks. I remember when they were 75¢.

This one and the 1987 one are fantastic reads. And small time capsules.

There has never been a better vantage point for baseball than Section 1, Upper Deck, front row at Shea.

2 championships in the first 25 years. 0 in the next 40.

And the struggle will continue for another 20-30

I wish Citi had one side odd and one side even. Made so much sense. The further away from the middle, the higher the number.

No interleague games… should have kept it limited like they did in the 90s.

Woww this is in too good of a condition #LGM

this could be the replica they gave away in the early 2000s. i have one.

2

u/QCowl89 3d ago

They gave replicas out in 2006. You would know if it was replica by the “Revised Edition” in the top left corner of the cover. Also, on the back of the replicas was a Sports Authority ad celebrating the 20th anniversary of the 86 team. This one is legit.

Don’t think so — (aforementioned RIP)

Uhh, that's 24 years lol

3

u/aloysiusthird 4d ago

The 62 season was the first season, 63 the second, 64 the third, 65 the fourth, 66 the fifth. Tack on 20 years until you get to 1986, and that's 25 seasons.

2

u/higheat 3d ago

Ok now do that for the 2002 season

1

u/Metallica1175 4d ago

But it says anniversary. Anniversaries goes by time, not seasons. The 25th anniversary of the first season would be in 1987. If it said the 25th season then you'd be correct.

u/aloysiusthird 4d ago

Amazing that literally millions are wrong and you are right. Certainly no other possible explanation.

1

u/Metallica1175 4d ago edited 4d ago

Then answer my question as to why the Mets celebrated the 40th anniversary of the 1986 World Series this year?

-2

u/aloysiusthird 4d ago

Again, solid work being the only person to catch this and millions of us are wrong.

1

u/Metallica1175 4d ago

You're not answering the question. You're saying the Mets were wrong this year?

u/aloysiusthird 4d ago

2

u/Metallica1175 4d ago

Whatever you say. I'll just go with how the Mets count this year then.

1

u/higheat 3d ago

That's you buddy. Whether you agree with his first post or not there is an inconsistency that you ignored.

3

u/Born-Total-2279 4d ago

I don’t get the downvotes. You’re right. And even the Mets confuse themselves. If the 25th anniversary was 1986 then 40th should’ve been 2001 not 2002.

2

u/Metallica1175 4d ago

People just want to argue for the sake of arguing I guess.

0

u/joesaysso 4d ago

Count it out on your fingers.

1

u/Metallica1175 4d ago

If that's how you want to count it, then why was this year the celebrated as the 40th anniversary of the 86 World Series, and not the 41st?
