SEEKING ADVICE Catch Me Up
Hey guys, I'm a returning player. I previously had close to 15k hours on Xbox but quit playing somewhere around 2017. I've now switched to the PC version and hit level 20, and even got a group of friends into the game and formed a guild. So much has changed I feel kinda lost. I don't know what to run anymore, story or gear wise. I've pretty much rebuilt my old loadout as a crit GWF. They're apparently called Barbarian now? I've been using the lostmauth set, and it just feels bad. Can anyone help catch me up on what items are important, how to farm nowadays, and how the hell I'm supposed to make enough AD to buy glyphs and enchantments for refining. I love this game and I really want to hop back in, but I'm just feeling lost. Thanks in advance.

Welcome back to the game!
As for Story catch-up the best route to go in my opinion is to start The Biting Cold campaign as soon as possible. In Neverwinter the newest campaign released will be open for all item levels to help with catching up on gear but the campaign will lock once the next campaign releases.
Also something more modern about Neverwinter is that since the Northdark Reaches campaign the dungeon or trial connected to the campaign will be unlocked for your entire account after completing 2 weeks of that campaign on 1 character.
The current event Monoliths of Madness will also help you catch-up because it also unlocks a campaign for all item levels to play but switches campaigns every Tuesday until the event ends, 4 campaigns in the event.
As for gear catch-up, Jotunskar, the newest dungeon, has a chance to drop unbound Helmets, Chestpieces, Arms, & Feet gear from both the Advanced version of the dungeon & the Master version of the dungeon which you can buy from the TradeHouse if you can’t farm the dungeon. Legendary companion gear also has to drop unbound from Jotunskar to buy on the TradeHouse but sadly I think Mythic companion gear has to actually be farmed.
Similar to Jotunskar, Shackles of Divinity & Soul Harvest Trials both have a chance to drop unbound Legendary & Mythic rings which you can buy on the TradeHouse.
Also upon completion of The Biting Cold campaign you will get a choice pack for a choice between the Shackles of Divinity Celestial Gear.
I assume you already know this but make sure you check the bonuses on the gear before you buy them or pick them in the choice pack because just because a piece of gear has high item level doesn’t automatically make it better for you. I’ve seen first hand so many players using tank & healer gear on their dps which had stats like Divinity Regen & Outgoing Healing which Divinity Regen is useless on classes without divinity & Outgoing Healing is useless on a dps.
Yup, Great Weapon Fighter (GWF) was renamed Barbarian awhile ago, I assume it was because of the table top version of D&D, similar to why we are level 20 now instead of level 70/80.
As for important items, if you plan to do Advanced/Master content Group Buffing companions are king. Examples of group buffing companions are;
- Portobello
- Appointment Event Shop
- Tutor
- TradeHouse/Trade Bar Shop
- Drizzt
- TradeHouse/Zen Market Packs
- Black Death Scorpion
- TradeHouse/Trade Bar Shop
- Spined Devil
- TradeHouse & Zen Market Packs I think
- Etrien/Harper Bard
- TradeHouse, also probably spelled wrong
Captain Sartell
- TradeHouse
There’s more than just this but I didn’t want to list every single group buffing companion. The reason why you want summoned companions like these are to help speed up dungeons/trials, skip mechanics, & pass dps checks that some dungeons/trial bosses have.
As for companion bonuses for dps the big 4 are;
Raptor (Requirement for Master Content for all Roles because of the Group Power Buff)
- TradeHouse, Reaper Store, Trade Bar Shop
Minsc (Damage buff in the Defensive Slot)
- TradeHouse & Maybe a Zen Market Pack
Batiri (Damage Against Bosses)
- TradeHouse, Reaper Store, & Merchant Prince’s Follly Skirmish
Neverwinter Knight (Damage Increase Buff)
- TradeHouse & Maybe Future Battlepasses
As you may have noticed 3 of the 4 companions I listed increases the damage that you deal as a dps while the Raptor gives everyone in the group Power stacking up to 5. At 5 people using the Raptor everyone in the group will have 22.5% more Power.
For Ad Farms, Events are still very good for ad. For example, Farming the Summer Festival Event could give you sellable Mounts, Companions, Event Food. Farming the upcoming Masquerade of Liars could also allow you to sell event companions for ad on the TradeHouse. Farming the Winter Festival could allow you to sell event mounts and probably whatever new they are doing this year.
For Glyphs of Potency you really shouldn’t spend ad on getting them but it is faster if you were to do so.
Glyphs of Potency can be gotten for free from Sybella’s Legacy Shop, shown on the map in Protector’s Enclave, which gives you quests every week for every level 20 character. Once you complete Sybella’s quest you’ll get currency for Sybella’s Shop and one of the rewards in the shop is Glyphs of Potency.
As for Enchantments since I don’t know if you are asking about Enchantments or Enchanting Stones I’ll talk about both.
For Enchantments some can be gotten from campaign stores or Battlepass choice boxes but if you are looking for the premium combat enchantments (3,000 item level Combat Enchantments) like Swift Synergy or Shattered Resolve you’ll sadly have to open lockboxes, buy them on the TradeHouse, buy the premium battlepass, or wait a long time until they become easier to get.
For Enchanting Stones however this farm hasn’t actually changed much since 2017. If you’re looking for Uncommon, Rare, or Epic Enchanting Stones the Dread Ring Lair Farm is still very good. The 2x event is now called 2x Refining Stones but Dread Ring Lairs still drop Enchanting Stones like they did back in the day.
If you’re looking for Legendary Enchanting Stones you can either buy them from Sybella’s Shop (I think) or get them from the Weekly Campaign Task on 2 Campaigns every week (Soul Collector & Wildspace Part 2 i think). The Enchanting Stones from the choice pack in the Weekly Campaign Task can also be doubled during the 2x Refining Stones Event.

In PE you have a NPC called sybelle, she grants quests which you can complete to help progress legacy campaigns and get a currency you can use for refining purposes like glyphs.
A side from that, glyphs primarily come from the wonderous bazaar, so just AD. Enchantments come from campaign stores, at least the good ones with some combat enchantments coming from lock boxes (expensive)
Farming advanced/master demonweb pits for crafting materials was always a good source of AD, but I have seen the prices drop recently.
By doing campaigns you get campaign currency, which you can use to buy enchantments in the campaign store, which you can sell on AH for profit.
In the newest zone, if you are doing heroics you get the zone mechanic eventually, by defeating the final guy, you have a chance he drops companion gear on the ground. That sells for a good chunk, but it is a somewhat rare drop. But you can also buy keys in the campaign window up to 3 a week that you can sell on AH.
There are more farming methods, but I don't remember them all. On YT gus archer has some videos on making AD in different ways

Welcome back.
Play it like a new game if you been gone that long. Start from your main and slowly progress toward mid > end game if that is your goal. The core game play did not really change, daily Randoms/RC/Events/Campaigns/Battlepass/etc... much more to do now.
Use your guild/alliance Disscord as the main info hub, there are many Barbarian dps/tank that are posted and Youtube videos available.
Have fun.
