Question Using JCM 900 Lead with SD 700 PowerStage

• Upvotes

I can’t find anything specific about this in any modeler subs but I’m trying to determine if I should get another 2x12 cab for gigs or use my JCM 900 Lead Angled cab with 4x12’s (loaded with Celestion G12T-75 and rated for 300 watts) with my QC mini (obv with the cab emulator off). Does anyone use this cab? I’m reading it’s bright, but can be fixed with eq. I play extended range guitars with lower tunings (Deathcore, Blackened Death, and Grindcore mostly).

Question Recommended Youtube Channels Or Videos?

Can anyone recommend any youtube channels or videos for the QC Mini? I'm putting together a QC rig to run split signal to a Cab and FOH. Really wanna make sure I understand setting up scenes, general tone shaping/leveling, and configuring a midi footswitch. I've watched some vids already but some seem to differing regarding level setting the scene presets. Any recommendations or pointers would be greatly appreciated!

Is there a DeckSaver for the QC mini? What covers do you use?

Hi all! I have a QC mini coming soon and I would like to find a "deck saver" style cover for it like the one I have for the full sized QC unit. Most of what I can find online only protects the touch screen on the mini, but I can't find anything that covers all 4 buttons and gives a little air between the cover and the screen. The deck saver on the full sized QC helps fill out some of the extra space in my gig bag (Temple solo 18) and makes the bag a lot easier to carry, and I was hoping to find something like that for the mini too (will be using the same style board for it). If this doesn't exist yet, what kind of protection are you using on your QC mini?

Can you help me improve my tone and playing? Korn-Right Now and Neural DSP Petrucci X

I’ve been playing guitar for about 2 months, and Korn’s “Right Now” is the first song I’ve learned all the way through. This recording has two separate guitar takes through Archetype: Petrucci X. I’m trying to get a heavier, dirtier, less glassy/twangy tone. I also tried Neural DSP Gojira, but I didn't like how it sounded with this guitar at all.

What would you adjust digitally to achieve that? I’d especially appreciate advice that works with single-coil pickups. I’m still learning, so feedback on the playing is welcome too. I'm using cheap SSS stratocaster, I know i know, it's bad, especially for korn , very bad haha. I told myself I won't buy any other guitar until I nail at least 15 songs, so please bear with me 💫

i'm attaching the audio file in form of mp4 file, be gentle :D

Question What’s your favorite plugin for all-around strat/tele sounds? John Mayer? Cory Wong? Tone King? Something else?

Curious what your favorite plugin for all-around strat/tele sounds (both clean and overdriven) is. I’m primarily a metal player, but do enjoy strats and teles into Fender style amps from time to time. Is there a plugin that you feel does well at getting you anything from Mark Speer (Khruangbin) to John Frusciante? I really like Mayer and Wong, so those are a no brainer, but I’m wondering which one will give me the best bang for my buck.

Discussion Cortex Control running on Linux!

Post image
59 Upvotes

I'm a Linux user (Bazzite), and with the advent of AI solving a lot of problems I decided to give it a go. I simply asked Codex to get Cortex Control working on my Linux machine. About 2 hours later I had a usable Wine/Proton setup connected to my Quad Cortex.

This is the actual Windows version of Cortex Control, with the original interface. No modified executable, custom USB driver or kernel changes. It needed some graphics and USB/HID configuration, but it now launches from my application menu like a normal program.

Ive also tested USB audio playback and capture while Cortex Control is connected. PC audio comes through the headphones plugged into my QC, and MIDI access works alongside it. Linux handles the audio and MIDI separately from the editor.

Cloud login/downloads weren't part of this experiment, and I haven't tested firmware updates or every editing/saving workflow. So I'm not claiming this is a fully tested Linux version. But it's already useful.

So, the discussion is... why hasn't Neural DSP decided to support Linux users? Even an officially documented Wine/Proton setup would be a pretty good start.

I get that supporting a commercial product across different systems is more work than getting it running on one person's PC. But when a couple of hours gets me this far with the existing application, is the remaining barrier really technical, or is Linux just not a priority?

Mini quad cortex is not loud enough to overpower drums/bass

Used to play with a nano cortex, required external boost pedal to cut through band mix live:

Took my new mini quad cortex to a practice jam yesterday, and the volume just barely cuts through the band mix without the external boost pedal. 3 piece band that plays metal/hardcore so we get loud….but I was really hoping the mini quad would’ve been good enough to not require the external boost.

Anyone have any suggestions? I’ve already maxed out input gain/output volume/preamps volume, and have EQ dialed in to push the mids so it cuts through the mix easy. It’s just the volume issue…I just need like another 5db to be right there with the bass/drums but anymore increases to the I/O settings is going to cause clipping

And no I don’t play through a PA. Run into the fx return of a cheap tube amp to get tubes to push the signal through a passive speaker.

My only idea right now is to create a stereo split signal where one of the outputs also has a IR cab block that I would feed into my frfr cab, achieving stereo with technically 2 diff speaker cabs. But holy fuck that’s inconvenient

Not totally NDSP related, but does anyone have experience with the Abasi Micro Aggressor pedal? I am having a hell of a time trying to get it to sound good in any neural Archetype, including Abasi..

This is my first physical pedal and I am entirely unfamiliar with compressors. Having seen demos on YouTube, it seems effortless, but I am having tremendous noise/hiss issues with pretty much anything I try. Even a simple clean amp with the input on my interface at 9 o'clock sounds bad. I picked it up used on marketplace, so my concern is something is wrong with it. I have a gate enabled, but it only affects my guitar signal, not the hiss coming from the pedal. Is this working as intended?

Question QC worth the price???

So i im thinking about buying a new guitar or a QC (almost the same price range)

Im a bedroom guitarist that is mostly/plans on recording, not yet playing live
But i dont know if its worth it, since most people that use it do play live or tour

Is it a lot of difference compared to just normal neural dsp plugins?

I tried looking for a cheaper 2nd hand one, but couldnt find any for now

Disappointed after demoing neuralDSP

I’ve been trying out the Archetype: Gojira X and John Mayer X, but I’m struggling to get great results from the presets. Are they generally well regarded? I’ve also listened to Silvera and couldn’t find any preset that quite hits the mark. Most of the John Mayer presets feel quite similar – just clean or slightly breaking up and the occasionally high ish gain, and they seem a bit, as if the EQ isn’t quite right or they lack presence. Am I alone in feeling a little let down after seeing the Neural DSP demos? I wonder if I’m missing something, any tips would be lovely, thanks!
Thank you :)

QC - Multiple Reverb device

Anyone know if there's a single device, like a reverb, in the works that acts like a multiple reverb pedal like a Big Sky, then you just need snapshots to change a reverb from plate to bloom. The Amplitube 5 MAX has these full devices, and would be cool

Question Which Headphones for QC and what to look out for

After a long decision process I finally and very happily got myself a qc with an Everse 8 for home use.

Now since i am doing shift work and sometimes have to practise late at night or in the morning i need a good pair of headphones as well.

Basically i have zero experience with studio headphones or guitar modellers playing through headphones. So what do I have to look out for?

I want a got pair at great value for money, I heard a lot of positives about the Sennheiser‘s in generell, but I am open for any recommendations at (almost 😉) any price point.

Thanks for your help in advance!

QC-Amp-OX Box - Audible Noise during Capture

Hello -

I’m creating my first captures tonight using my amp (Cali Tweed) through an Ox Box. I was surprised that I was able to hear audible sounds coming through the speaker connected to the ox box during the capture process, even though the speaker level in the ox was set to 0. The amp and ox work fine outside of the capture process, and the same 0 setting is completely silent through the attached speaker. The capture seems to have come out alright - guess I’m just curious if anyone has experienced the same? Is the capture sweep signal maybe just so loud that it bleeds through?

Question Is it possible that someone would be able to do a neural capture of this tone (thanks in advance)

Discussion This QoL feature needed to be added like yesterday. Surprising and Annoying it isn't already a thing.

Hello! Got my QC Mini this past week, and have been loving it, but I have one major gripe.

The inability to move presets around in the bank. Like why is the only option to Swap or Overwrite? Why cant I turn one of the pedal controls to just move a preset up and down in the bank?

Like if the Bank is songs A B C D E F G and I want to move G to song 2, the process is really convoluted and stupid to try and change it to A G B C D E F

Recs for good speakers without breaking the bank?

Hi all, I’ve been using Cory Wong plugin for a few months now and I’m pretty convinced I won’t be going back to regular amps and pedals anytime soon.

My setup is very basic, guitar plugged to a Scarlett audio interface, plugged to my pc, Cory Wong, headphones plugged on the Scarlett.

I’m looking to buy speakers (preferably a pair, as the Scarlett has left and right outputs) and plug that into the equation, using it simultaneously as the archetype’s speaker and also as the computer’s speaker, to reproduce Spotify and computer audio in general. Any recommendations?

Im based in Latin America, so sometimes some of the good speakers available in NAM or Europe may not be available.

Suggestions overall are also appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Nano Cortex for my needs

I've been mainly playing at home with plugins the last few years and very happy with this set up. I've started playing in a band again and im wondering if the nano is right for me.

Its pretty straightforward metal - machine head etc. I'm 99% on rhythm so would basically want a solid rhythm tone (OD/5150/some small eq adjustments) a clean and a lead tone with some delay and EQ. A QC looks great but I don't need lots of options just the solid fundamentals for rehearsal and live use. Other band members have modelers etc aswell and the set up in place for this already.

I wouldn't capture physical gear much, more likely to capture plugin tones at this point.

Any opinions on the nano in this set up much appreciated!
