My mum is missing after floods in Tibet

• Upvotes

My mum Evita Sarma (Latvian citizen) has been missing from Gyron port (Tibet side), since the floods on the 26th of August.

At this point i am running out of options, so I'm reaching out to you dear Reddit users.

Based on the last photo that my mum sent me, she just cleared the Border about 3 min before floods hit. I have contacted the Latvian ministry of foreign affairs, Chinese embassy in Latvia and support phone line that was set up for international queries.

I do understand that chances are astronomically low, but until I'll get concrete information I will be still keeping hope and praying for the miracle.

My biggest problem is that last information about what's going on (in terms of rescue work) was on the 7th of September.

If you know anything current like hospitals rescued people have been transported to, agencies to contact, statistics or anything else, I would be endlessly thankful.

I really need your help. My mum is the dearest person to my ever and only family i have. We always been close and I miss her so, so much.

More than seven trillion gallons of groundwater were lost beneath the Colorado River Basin during three years of severe drought. NASA satellite measurements have revealed enormous underground losses, including in mountainous regions previously considered more resistant to water shortages.

Recent earthquakes are a statistical anomaly?

Recently there have been a number of earthquakes in Latin America and North America with Panama, Colombia, Venezuela being 7+. Are we seeing a trend here or are we seeing a statistical anomaly. If this points to something, can we expect more earthquakes in the region?

If this is a statistical anomaly, how much more earthquakes have struck in the past year than usual? Crete, Italy, Japan, Indonesia, Russia, etc. Many of them medium, but some large.

Is the solar activity and global warming to blame?

Dashain Road Status Update (Oct 13, 2026): Key Highway Closures, Restrictions & Emergency Numbers

Post image
13 Upvotes

Stay safe during Dashain travel! Here is the latest certified road status compiled from the Nepal Police, Traffic Police (103), and the Department of Roads (DoR) as of Tuesday morning, October 13, 2026.

1. Sector-by-Sector Status

  • Tribhuvan Highway (Dhunibesi-9, Khatri Pauwa - Dhading)
    • One-way alternating traffic (Mudslide debris cleared to a single lane; expect long queues).
  • Beni–Jomsom Road (Raghuganga-2, Baisari - Myagdi)
    • One-way alternating traffic (Active cliffside slip cleared).
  • Kaligandaki Corridor (Baudikali-3, Janti Pahiro - Nawalparasi East)
    • Heavy freight banned. Only light 4WD/passenger vehicles allowed.
  • Besisahar–Khangsar (Manang / Tilicho route)
    • One-way traffic (Stream scouring cleared).
  • Aarughat–Dhading / Soti (Gorkha - Nayapul & Soti)
    • TOTAL CLOSURE (Bridges washed away by Budhi Gandaki floods).

2. Important Things to Know Before Traveling

  1. Expect delays, not total blockades: Single-lane restrictions on the Tribhuvan Highway and Beni–Jomsom routes mean heavy traffic jams. Plan extra travel hours.
  2. Heavy freight bypass: If you are driving trucks or heavy buses around the Kaligandaki Corridor, take the Siddhartha Highway (Palpa–Butwal) bypass instead.
  3. Gorkha–Dhading border crossing: The 22m concrete bridge approach at Nayapul is completely gone. No vehicle path exists right now—only pedestrian footbridges are usable.
  4. No reopening timeline yet: There is no official date for when temporary bridges will be placed across the Budhi Gandaki river.

3. Emergency Verification Hotlines

Conditions can change fast. Call these numbers before setting off:

  • Traffic Police Hotline: 103 (24/7)
  • Nepal Police Control: 100
  • Department of Roads (Toll-Free): 9851416893
  • DPO Dhading: 010-520199
  • DPO Myagdi: 069-520199
  • DPO Manang: 066-440199
  • DPO Gorkha: 064-420199

The Budhi Gandaki River swept away a large bridge during the floods in Nepal today. Nature's power is insane.

This was on the Budhi Gandaki river in Gorkha district, Nepal, this weekend. A landslide blocked the river upstream in Chumnubri Rural Municipality. When the blockage opened, the surge of water washed away three bridges: two suspension footbridges and a steel bridge at Soti.

Water also flooded houses and sheds in lower Machhakhola, at least one house in Sirdibas was swept away, and 20 to 22 houses in Salleri were reported at risk. I haven't seen reports of casualties so far.
