TLDR the state police will be publishing the list of banned pistols by Oct 30th and the state asked for an extension until they release that list.

I was wondering does being legally prescribed a medication does that disqualify you from getting your permit? I’ve read for the past 3 hours if it’s allowed or not. I’m not on any other psych meds. I don’t go to a therapist or psychologist just a counselor and get drug tested monthly and haven’t failed any. I buy shot guns and rifles I pass all the background checks and everything. I went to rehab voluntarily 5 years ago and I’m currently tapering off the methadone I was just wondering because there is no definitive answer anywhere I looked. I pass all the background checks for rifles and they check medical history. So if anyone has any information please let me know

Hey can anyone give me some info on what to expect at the court date with the judge, specifically Westchester county? Should I study the laws more and expect to be asked questions on them or is it more personal questions such as what would you did if xyz happened, where will you store it, etc. or am I way off the mark

Sorry if this is a really stupid question. We’re about to get a rifle for deer hunting and have kids in the house so we need to get a safe. Besides the locked and secured part which is obvious, I’m reading it needs to be “fire, impact, and tamper resistant” with no specifics on what that means. Are there certain certifications or something we need to look for? Do the inexpensive 200-250 dollar safes that are only 80 pounds qualify or do I need to be looking at the way heavier 800+ dollar safe?

Original 4 year CCW license (Albany County) expired 04/26, “renewed” 02/26 and received confirmation online that it was good to go. Haven’t received a new card with valid expiration dates. Do we get one? Am I limited with my currently ‘expired’ card even though it is technically renewed and valid online? What is happening?

What's up everyone? I've been a CCW holder for exactly 3 years now. I applied for my New York State resident first, then I applied for non-resident permits in NYC(Special Carry), New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania. My goal is to apply for more non-resident permits in other states so I have reciprocity in as many states as possible.

Along the process of acquiring these permits, some have been flawless and painless (thank you PA and CT) However, for other states, I have encountered challenges and surprises (NYS, NYC Special Carry and NJ). As I apply for other states, I want to know from you guys:

What was your biggest surprise when you got your permit?"

"What do you wish somebody had told you before applying?"

It be nice to know what other states you have CCW in as well so we can compare experiences.

Don’t listen to a lot of the negativity it’s over all a great career. It can be dangerous but it pays very well the benefits are great. And you can conceal carry in all 50 states, have standard capacity magazines, removable magazines, obtain sbr and suppressors with the correct documentation. Looking for a store that has an inventory of secondhand firearms of all kind, as close to Westchester as possible but I’m not opposed to taking a drive.

If I were to sell a shotgun barrel and an accompanying grip, would I need to sell it through an FFL? Are there any other restrictions?

I'm looking for a place to go shooting regularly that's closer than my family land in the Southern Tier. Brooks is only about ten minutes away from me and has everything I'm looking for: pistol range, rifle out to 200 yards, lots of clay including skeet and trap, but looking at their website the vibe looks very country club, just with guns instead of golf, which is totally not my scene. Anybody have any thoughts about Brooks?

What’s the best place to stock up on ammo near Westchester County NY, don’t mind taking a drive and is there a limit on the anoint you can purchase at once? And is it frowned upon to buy ammo from PA or surrounding states?

Where on Long Island can I get the best Bang for my Buck

Hey guys, I finally got my hands on my NYC ccw permit and I picked up my handgun. Is there anything else I need to do? I asked chat GPT and it’s telling me I need to return the handgun purchase authorization to NYPD.
I’m a bit confused cause the store clerk didn’t give me back the authorization form to give back to NYPD

I know this has been asked many times but would these fins make a pistol grip legal?

Given the upcoming supreme court case regarding individual rights to own an AR-15, I am beginning to wonder what, if any, impact the case may have on the Safe Act. If the Court decides that individuals do have the inherent right to possess such firearms, would this include the same right to the Ar-15s standard features, throwing out the safe acts restrictions on “Assault Rifle features” (detachable magazine, threaded barrel, pistol grip, muzzle breaks, etc). Or is it more likely that the case will be interpreted at the level NY law is now of “sure, you can own an AR, but the state can heavily restrict it”.

If the prior, is it possible we see standard sized 30 round magazines labeled as part of the guns inherent features too, possibly upending heavy magazine restrictions👀?
