NYC premiere of First We Bombed New Mexico: The Aftermath, Oct 23-29 at Village East by Angelika

I’m on the team for this film and wanted to share since it’s finally premiering here.

First We Bombed New Mexico: The Aftermath, by director Lois Lipman, is about the New Mexico families who were exposed to fallout from the first nuclear bomb test and never warned, and the subsequent fight for compensation led by activist and cancer survivor Tina Cordova.

The film opens at Village East by Angelika on Oct 23 and runs through Oct 29. Stay after the 7 PM screenings on opening weekend, Oct 23 and 24, for a Q&A with Lois, Tina, and other special guests.

Tickets: https://angelikafilmcenter.com/villageeast/movies/details/first-we-bombed-new-mexico---the-aftermath

Trailer: https://www.firstwebombednewmexico.com/filmtrailer

Happy to answer questions and hope to see folks there!

News Kips Bay AMC breaks silence on NYU Langone property drama, insists ‘we want to stay’

So much for NYU Langone’s insistence that AMC wants to vacate the Kips Bay 15.

From the article:

“‘To be clear, we want to stay. Under the terms of our current lease, the theatre is operating successfully, and we would like to continue serving moviegoers for years to come. We believe keeping this theatre open would be the best outcome for our guests and for the Kips Bay community,’ Ryan Noonan, a spokesperson for AMC Theatres, said in a statement.”

Why do so many theaters mix around films/auditoriums?

I feel over the years, lots of the NYC theaters I frequent are just constantly mixing around what plays in each auditorium. IFC Center it feels like every single show on their screens is a totally different movie, maybe something is in the big house at 11am but then in the small one at 8pm. AMC Lincoln doesn't even advertise what is playing in any auditorium anymore but everything flips around throughout the day constantly. I can understand a demand being larger at certain times for some pictures, but when I see stuff like this it feels arbitrary.

And the lack of consistency does annoy me as someone who tries to see a film in the best possible auditorium. But, IFC again, I've gone to see things there expecting to be in one of the nicer rooms (1 or 2), but have ended up in the shack theater 5 because that showtime of that new film just happens to be in there.

Is there a logic reason for this aside from my musing about demand above, or is there something more internal as to why theaters do this? Because I remember this stuff being far more consistent years back.
