Megathread Grief Megathread

If you are grieving the loss of a loved one, please post here.

If you have something you believe will give help and comfort to those who are grieving, please post here.

Some requested comments for this post (please keep answers mostly related to NDEs, as this is the NDE sub so it's assumed people are seeking NDE-related answers):

  • How do you deal with grief? What has helped you?
  • How have NDEs given you comfort in a time of grief?
  • If you believe that they will see their loved ones again, please explain why, remembering this is the NDE sub and they are seeking NDE-related answers.
  • Do you have a favorite NDE where the person saw their deceased loved one? Please share it.
  • Have you ever had an After-Death Communication? Please share it here.
  • Anything NDE related or NDE adjacent that you hope might give comfort to those who are grieving.

We have decided to make this megathread because there are certain topics (this one included) that are taking over the sub and can be depressing for people. Yet people seek comfort from NDEs, so we don't wish to eliminate the topic.

Please be kind and gentle in this post.

General NDE Discussion 🎇 What does a life review look like if you don't remember a part of your life?

I don't remember much before the age of 9, and I have always wondered what exactly happened. If I had a life review, would I maybe be able to see those things? Just curious.

Question — Debate Allowed Has anyone had an NDE that let them know to stay away from someone? Or that someone isn’t who you thought they were?

I’ve heard lots of NDEs where the person has experienced things from the other person’s point of view and it’s led them to forgive that person (not necessarily forget, though). But I haven’t heard anyone say that they’ve experienced an NDE and been able to get inside the mind of someone who wasn’t a good person and who made the NDEr realize they need to get away from them. Has anyone had this sort of experience?

I’m talking about things like realizing a friend isn’t really your friend, or a coworker you’ve been confiding in has been stealing credit for your work, or your partner has been cheating on you, or your parents aren’t your real parents.

Things that make you go “woah, plot twist” (things that you were able to confirm were true afterwards).

Question — Debate Allowed How long does the live review feel?

For those of you that have had a life review, how long would you estimate it felt? I know that we experience the passage of time differently in spirit, but did it feel like you reviewed an entire lifetime of time or did it feel condensed and shorter?

P.S. I’m glad you’re here. I’m cheering you on as you navigate this new chapter of life. You’re not alone. 🫶

NDE Story Had a NDE at the gym

I went to a 24h gym last night. It was late, sometime around 1:00am. I set up my bench press, did it as usual.

I was pushing a medium set when the barbell hit the holder. Because it was so sudden, the barbell dropped from my hands and landed straight into my sternum. It was excruciating and I lost my strength to push it back up.

The barbell then rolled into my neck. I realised I had not set the safety pins to the correct level.

I blacked out with the barbell (>100KG / 225 lbs) resting on my neck.

I remember going to this place. There was white light all around. Not an artificial white created by lamps, but a natural white. I felt universal peace, painlessness and comfort. I felt that I was "at home" and that it was a familiar place that I had been to before. I was reliving some memories and smiling. It was joyous and euphoric.

Then something "told" me that my time was not up yet and then it was time to go back.

I woke up lying flat on the ground next to the bench. The barbell had become dislodged from my neck after I lost consciousness and I survived. I deduced that I must have fallen off the bench after I lost consciousness - and that if I was not so lucky, I would already have stayed in that place.

Because it was late at night, not many people were near me and I don't think anyone saw or paid attention.

My neck was bright red with the marks from the barbell. My sternum hurts (and still hurts).

I now think that this world is just an intermediate one and that "Heaven", in the terms I've described, does exist. The soul goes to that place after you die and before you are born.

Question — Debate Allowed How do you deal with everyday life

Ever since I had my NDE a few months ago, I found it really weird dealing with normal life issues like getting a job, passing a class,.....

For people who have experienced NDEs, how do you deal with this, knowing that it's all part of an experience. Sure it does reduce anxiety but then everything seems unimportant.

Spiritual Growth Topics I've come to understand something

I've read many NDE's since I've gotten into spirituality. Looked into OBE's, spiritually transformative experiences and mediumship readings. Throughout the years my belief of an afterlife has become more of an understanding and knowing that it exists. The thing that has continously come up that I think is important to reiterate, the afterlife is massive, with different degrees of existence, vibrational planes that is just as if not more solid than this world. There are higher and lower realms. There are houses, cities, oceans, forests, mountains, populations, different species. What has become most important to my understanding, as this topic has come up many times before in my research, is the more karmically balanced you are, the more accessible higher realms are. Some people, like on earth, can get stuck in different patterns of thinking, habits, addictions. Its up to each individual soul to expand themselves in order to access more. Its made me realize I was selfish and needed to break certain patterns myself to try and balance my own karma, become self aware of my own wrongs and shortcomings and try to be better. This topic has come up in many readings I've come across so I thought I'd share. Life is about growth and so is the afterlife. Helping people and doing good without expectation of reward, gratitude, repair, all these things can help you become balanced and more free.

Question — Debate Allowed Are there NDEs that speak to whether having children is a spiritual necessity? / highly encouraged?

I'm a gay man and struggling with the fact that I may not have biological children. Family is very important to me.

Are there NDEs that speak to whether people come back and think they really should have biological children?

Or any that say that doesn't have to be a focus, that you can contribute just as meaningfully to the world in your own ways, as long as you are supporting creation?

I think about someone like Dolly Parton who did so much good for the world and I'm sure she is enjoying seeing all of the people she helped. At the same time, she missed out on a huge experience that is just probably impossible to recreate in other ways. I'm not saying everyone wants to have kids (which is fine!) but I get the sense that she originally did want that, and I DO want that, so is that something I should really make sure happens?

Question — Debate Allowed Nancy Danison's books and NDE experience. Anyone up for discussion?

Hey there, I've been reading Nanci Danison's books the past few weeks. She had an "expanded near death experience" as she calls it where she merged into Source and was allowed to take back to Earth with her a whole bunch of "Knowings".

I guess the biggest takeaway from her books, for me, is that the afterlife seems kind of boring, haha. She says you merge into Source and it's an entirely emotional/mental existence without any physical anything. You can temporarily manifest a physical reality but you know it's not real and it's only temporary while your soul incorporates back into being a Light Being. Then you spend your time just being in blissful existence inside Source as a non-physical entity.

Does this sound boring to anyone else? Not gonna lie, I was really hoping the afterlife was gardens and nature and wildlife and exploration. Of course the afterlife is what it is, not what I want it to be, so I need to just accept that. If I get too bored, it sounds like I can choose to reincarnate into another world, but it sounds like I would get amnesia again and not remember who I am again or who my loved ones are again, which sounds excruciating. I really don't like not remembering being a Light Being and being cut off from my "true self".

On one hand, the afterlife just existing as a mental being sounds boring but on the other, the thought of starting all over in another incarnation where I start back at square one with no memories, cut off from my true self and feeling separate from Source sounds horrible.

Anyone else read her books? What are your thoughts?

General NDE Discussion 🎇 Question for "I remember nothing"

I guess it's a question but I've seen a lot of NDEs basically grounded in skepticism and nihilism/atheism, I suppose, where the person who had the NDE says they "experienced nothing" or "saw black" and use that as their reasoning to believe there is nothing after death. My question would be if there is nothing, then how could you remember experiencing nothing? How could you have experienced anything at all? If there's truly nothing, then you wouldn't have had an experience at all nor a memory of such.

(For context, I like to think there's something more but I'm aware that I don't know anything for certain. So this isn't an argument for one way or the other, just pointing out a discrepancy in logic)

Kinda thought it was a funny argument since it doesn't exactly make sense. Would love to hear more thoughts!!

General NDE Discussion 🎇 Do you remember breathing or having a need to breathe in your NDE?

Do you remember breathing or having a need to breathe? Asking because something that scares me about death is the idea of not breathing.

NDE Story Has anyone passed to spirit realm and come back?

I’m not sure whether this counts as an NDE.

I was asleep, about six months sober, only 27 and I think I may have had an asthma attack in my sleep, though I don’t know for sure. I remember a vivid dream like experience where I knew I was dying or passing over. I didn’t float out of my body. I went through a tunnel towards an intensely bright, fluorescent white light. I usually find fluorescent light uncomfortable, but this felt warm, safe and protective. I was then surrounded and at one with the light in an infinite space but it wasn’t scary, it was very peaceful.

There were entities that communicated with me telepathically. They seemed to tell me I’d lived a lot of lives by that age and asked if I wanted to move on. They showed me where it all went “wrong”, where my addiction started with no judgement and gifted me the feelings my parents felt towards me, which was indifference but it didn’t hurt. It’s hard to explain. I felt completely peaceful and in harmony, as if I was there as my soul or spirit rather than my body and I knew everything would be okay.

I don’t remember making a clear choice. The impression I’m left with is that they said something like, “Maybe you’re not finished yet. You should go back.” I wonder if I was speaking to spirit guides and being given the choice to continue this life, to finish what my soul had come here to experience or to pass over.

The fact that I was only six months into sobriety and recovery makes me wonder if that was connected somehow. I don’t take it as proof of anything and I can’t be sure what happened medically or whether it was a dream. But the experience has stayed with me. Has anyone had something similar, especially being offered a choice or told to return? Did it connect with your recovery or how you understood your life afterwards?

General NDE Discussion 🎇 Is Earth among the hardest places to be in the Universe?

Recently I read some NDE´s in which people remembered that they chose to be here because Earth was among the hardest places to be in the Universe. Souls that go here are considered to be the Elite because its so hard here.

Other Places/Planets they visited during their NDE were mostly chill and full of love/harmony, but not Earth. Souls that come here are in for the full negative experience package.

This has left me wondering. Is Earth the hardest or among the hardest places to be in the Universe?

Question — Debate Allowed Why do so many people keep saying the Tibetan Book of the Dead explains NDEs?

I see this discussed on many different spiritual forums and across social media. Personally, I see some similarities but a lot of stuff is still very different from what people report in their NDEs. For a start, the majority of NDEs are more positive than negative, and in the Tibetan Book of the Dead it talks about encountering wrathful deities as one of the trials in the bardo state.

I am not saying the Tibetan Book of the Dead is completely wrong, but I am saying that it doesn't explain everything, which seems to be the opposite of what I see people saying when they say that it explains NDEs fully.

Curious because many people here share seemingly NDE features without actually dying. Like meditation or so on

Question — Debate Allowed Those who've had an nde, did it tell you anything about what love and emotions are?

If you had an nde, did you experience anything to do with love? Did it show you/make you feel that love is only biological, or if there is something more to it? Science says all emotions are chemical, that all we are is basically chemical, did your nde make you feel one way or another about it?

General NDE Discussion 🎇 For anyone who experience NDE life review, what seemed to mattered most?

So this experience of life review has interested me. And I'm curious what those experiences might mean.

Success is often measured by metrics like money, career, various achievements, and social status. But I’ve noticed some NDE experiences talk about life reviews and how their actions affected other people.

So I’m curious if life review was like a kind of performance evaluation of your life? Did it reveal what actually mattered vs what didn’t? Or was it more about understanding consequences of your actions?
