MEGATHREAD: Got an interview, requirement, and admission question? Post it here!

Even if it is program specific, look to see if it has been asked here before. 99% of the time, chances are the same question has been asked before, and that people are all coming on here looking for answers.

In response to deodorant, body odours and cleanliness

The Sitch

There have been recent complaints about student hygiene in this subreddit. In regards to body odour, oral odour, and general uncleanliness. Clearly, a large number of students are having a growing issue in regards to the hygiene of other students.

Bad hygiene is not "personal". It disrupts others' learning, it makes public spaces sometimes unbearable to be around, and it is unfair to those who are sensitive to smells. This can affect student performance, the willingness of students to socialize and use NAIT services, and can be a real detriment to the students who are paying to study at NAIT.

Some students have no choice but to use the computers at commons, eat lunch in the common areas, and do group work in common areas. It is wildly unfair to them to not enforce these rules.

Who's the Issue?

The truth is that these students can come from all backgrounds. Although our experience as individuals make it very easy to generalize certain groups of being the main culprit, the issue needs to be dealt with at a grand level. Black, brown, blue or purple; if you smell bad, you smell bad. Should be enforced from the get-go.

Seeing the growing number of racial generalizations, it can be very easy for these generalizations to slip into unnecessarily racist comments. If we want this issue dealt with, we need to refrain from immature racist comments and stay focused on the end goal.

What should we do about it?

We know NAIT has loosely enforced "odour sensitivity" before, in regards to wearing strong perfumes and colognes. Why can the same not be done for strong, unpleasant bad-hygiene odours?

NAIT also needs to realize that by not enforcing this, they are creating a breeding ground for resentment towards groups that are not partaking in basic hygiene practices. They are also creating spaces for other students where they feel extremely unpleasant. (Like, nauseatingly unpleasant. I've unwillingly gagged.)

Here's what I suggest from all of you:

  1. Contact NAITSA ([asknaitsa@nait.ca](mailto:asknaitsa@nait.ca)) about wanting NAIT to enforce a hygiene rule. Let them know how you feel about other student's hygiene, and how it affects your learning.
  2. Contact/CC NAIT Administration as well about this being an issue. CC your program chair as well.
  3. Advocate for campus-wide initiatives about basic hygiene, the importance of it, and how your hygiene affects others (yes, some people are vastly uneducated about this). This includes, showering, using deodorant, washing your clothes, brushing your teeth, and flossing.
  4. Enforce it, by allowing students to submit complaints about bad hygiene, and having NAIT administration making this a policy about decent behaviour. (The same way provocative clothing, vulgar/loud behaviour, and abusive language is not tolerated)
  5. Do a discovery/study that determines if their student population has adequate access to showers, hygiene products, and laundry service. (you'd be surprised r/SlumlordsCanada)

In my personal opinion, it is NAIT"s responsibility to enforce this. To maintain a certain standard of what we expect from each other, we do need to be vocal and make it known when we feel certain boundaries are not being enforced.

I'm debating starting a petition for NAIT to address this issue. Please let me know in the poll below if you'd like to see an official change.org petition made for this. Voting closes in a week.

I wanted to make this post to raise this as a formal issue, so we can remain productive about it and not devolve into finger pointing and unproductive comments. Let's hope together we can make the change we want to see.

Question Choosing EMR courses

Hello, I am enrolling in the EMR program this November and looking for some from previous students who took and pass the program at Nait. I saw on the Nait website that it recommends that students can do OHSC 160 and EMRE 160 at the same time. Is it possible to do ITMS 100 and ANPH 100 at the same time like the previous two courses? I am interested in fast tracking the program.

Help Looking for film/media student to shoot a small mushroom farm build out

Hi friends,
I’m the owner of a small local business that grows gourmet mushrooms for farmers markets and restaurants and teaching workshops.

I’m moving the business into a little 400sqft space just south of edmonton this week and would love to document the process of building it out, securing sales etc in an entertaining video series format for youtube as well as TikTok and instagram.

I’m bootstrapping this business solo so i don’t have a massive budget at the moment but I can offer a flat fee or per hour fee for your work.

This could be an opportunity to have a very unique and interesting subject to film.

As my “creative director” you will have the freedom to build the set from the ground up.
From setting the scene and shooting the content to editing and finalising. I really want people who have their own unique creative vision and a passion for bringing it to life.
Also if driving is a constraint for you i’d happily offer to drive you as well, to and from the mushroom farm building.

if this interests you and you’d like to go for a coffee shoot me a dm and we’ll figure something out !

Question NAIT and UofA or just UofA?

I have applied and been accepted into both NAIT’s and the UofA’s conservation biology program. I was wondering if it would be more beneficial to complete the 2 year diploma program at NAIT and then transfer into the UofA’s program to get my degree, or simply go to the UofA for 4 years. This may not apply to NAIT as much as it may the UofA, but I still want to cover my bases. I have a few questions, but if there is any information you think would help please share!

  1. How competitive was the transfer from NAIT to ALES?

  2. How much does the fieldwork give an advantage compared to the UofA?

  3. How heavy is the course load at NAIT?

Any and all advice is welcome!

Help NAIT DMS APPLICATION STATUS

Hi, I was hoping someone could help me out here cause i'm really stressed out and panicking! I completed all the course requirements for the DMS program and my grades are well over 75%. I stayed up all night to apply the first day admissions opened and I just recevied a status update of "Lacking Requirements" Two out of my required courses which is math and physics are still showing up as outstanding.

This is my second year applying and last year nait got my Bio and english grades a bit earlier on cause I was upgrading. Anxiety is getting the best of me at this point, can anyone maybe give some insight at what the status could imply? Im still waiting to hear back from student services! I really dont want my application to be pushed back and risk losing a fair chance at getting an interview or offer of admission.

Question [MRT] Should I Take Anatomy & Physiology and Medical Terminology Before Getting Accepted NAIT

MRT AND DMS

Hi everyone!

I recently applied to NAIT’s Medical Radiologic Technology program AND DMS for Fall 2027. My application status is currently Pending Program Decision, and I received a letter confirming that I qualify for an admission interview.

My question is about the two required courses: Medical Terminology (ITMS100) and Anatomy & Physiology (ANPH100).

Both courses must be completed by July 31, 2027, but I'm wondering if I should register and start taking them now or wait until after my interview results.

Since the program is competitive and the courses are expensive, I don't want to spend money before knowing whether I'll be accepted.

Has anyone been through this process? Does NAIT offer conditional acceptance before these courses are completed, or should I start them now?

I'd really appreciate any advice or personal experiences. Thank you

Question Discord for MRT?!

Hi there, I was added to a discord server for MRT :) I think I was deleted because I just went on my app and I’m no longer a part of it or a part of any server. 🥲

I have some questions

I’m looking to do academic upgrading from home, can I do it with a different institution online and will NAIT accept that?? Please let me know,

I’m looking to get into MRT for September 2027, and I’m currently working on completing the courses that are needed as as well as as academic upgrading. I have a full-time job and I just wanna know if I can do academic upgrading with another institution because I’ve noticed that with NAIT I need to do it in class by the looks of things online.

I am going to call them on Tuesday though

Any comments would be helpful thank you 💖💖💖
