Work for immigrants

My wife works for an airline, and she is itching to move to Scotland because there are a lot of good opportunities for work, raises, housing, and life in general, compared to where we live now (in the US). I mostly do appliance repair work in restaurants, mainly dealing with electrical powered cooking/warming units like ovens, fryers, and warming drawers.

My questions are:

How easy will it be for me to find work on a spouse visa? Could I get sponsored for employment without the visa? How would I go about getting information about these things? How do I get in contact with companies? Could I start my own little repair shop?

And your wife will get a visa why?

From what she's been looking into, she said she'd be sponsored through the airline she works for.

Really unsure what airline jobs she’s thinks are in Scotland. I used to work for one of the top UK airlines and the presence in Scotland for jobs worth a visa sponsor is minimum for most of them. Unless she means in airports generally in which case potentially (although most of them are British citizens). Even the United and Jet Blue staff aren’t American.

But irrespective of that, for what you do you don’t fit any of the visa categories. The uk gov website is actually pretty clear on what can and can’t be sponsored without a job sponsor. If you’re not on the can list then it’s a cannot. The reality is most small businesses do not have the ability to sponsor visas (there’s also a list online of who can sponsor visas) and in the unlikely event they do it will probably be super hard to get a job and it will likely not include relocation.

If you can get a spousal visa, do that. It’s probs legit your only option. Once you’re on the ground, visa in hand, you can probably pick up a job. BUT salaries are probably lower than you think and tax is higher.

I'll be frank. There is very little chance of this happening for you. Visa sponsorship is rare, and generally only available to the most uniquely skilled individuals. And spousal visas take a long time and cost a lot of money.

Have you or your wife been to Scotland?

Yeah. The international airline she works for has had her there a few times. I've only been able to visit once so far.

Finding work with a spouse visa wouldn’t be too hard assuming you’ve not got a highly specialised profession that requires you to be in certain location.

The first question that comes to mind would be, is your wife Scottish? If not why do you assume she would be visa eligible? Work visa is one of the more difficult paths into the UK as not many places sponsor them and the places that do usually require very unique and specialised skills to make it worth it.

As for getting information your best place to start would be www.gov.uk and look through the immigration stuff and if you want to pursue it further I would highly suggest a consultation with a lawyer before doing anything drastic.
