Id like to start by mentioning that I know that this question has been asked here before, but it’s been a year now so I’d like to have more input ! I’m also aware this is a motorcycle subreddit, but I can’t seem to find a Montreal/car dedicated page.
I recently bought a used car that came with an aftermarket exhaust already installed. It’s a relatively expensive setup, so I’m debating whether it’s worth keeping or if I should just return the car to stock.
I’m genuinely not interested in disturbing anyone or drawing unnecessary attention. The exhaust is noticeably louder during cold starts, but otherwise I find it fairly reasonable though it can be loud on higher RPM. I’ve checked with my neighbours to make sure it wasn’t bothering them and thankfully nobody has had any complaints.
That said I’m aware that modified exhausts can be an issue in Quebec and I’d rather make an informed decision than end up dealing with tickets or inspections. For anyone who’s owned a car with an aftermarket exhaust in Montreal, have you personally been stopped or ticketed for it? Is enforcement generally focused on excessive noise or can having an aftermarket exhaust itself attract attention? I’m considering going back to stock regardless, but I’d appreciate hearing about people’s actual experiences before making that decision.
