Proper ‘machine’ for apps + moonlight streaming?

I have an LG C2 tv that we’ve been using for years. In light of all the spyware news, I was hoping to turn it into a dumb tv and use some ‘box’ for our app needs and being able to use Moonlight reliably.

I was waiting for the new release of Apple TV but they’ve really dropped the ball with it. 60Hz, no audio pass-through, and now also a listening shitty AI machine.

Anyone have recommendations on what I could use? Something that plugs into my TV, allows me to use my surround system, and controller(s).

I bought a cheap refurbished thinkpad. Works a treat plus I can game if I feel like it.

Added benefit i run Linux and Windows. Linux on my laptop. All my professional stuff on there. Work important emails etc. Then moonlight connected to my gaming pc which runs windows.

Jailbroken Playstation 5. 10-bit HDR, 120Hz, PyroWave support. Actually you can install Steam games directly on the console now if you want, don't even need Moonlight, but I still use it.

Check out Glasshouse. It lets you turn off all the LG bullshit on the TV and even uninstall some of the built in apps. It’s great, my TV doesn’t try to phone home at all anymore (previously it was blocked at the router level)

Prior gen ATV. Relatively inexpensive for what you are getting. Was my Moonlight client prior to my SteamDeck and outside of sub-optimal bluetooth range it was actually pretty solid. Hard pass on the new one. They priced themselves out of that market and added almost no desireable features (unless you care about AV1).
