Software engineer looking for opportunities in Monaco, open to relocation
Hi everyone,
I’m Jacob, a software engineer based in Tanzania, I’m looking for software engineering opportunities in Monaco and would be happy to relocate for the right role.
I work across web, mobile, and backend development. My main stack includes TypeScript, React/Next.js, Flutter, React Native, Bun, and PostgreSQL. I’m also expanding my backend work with Go.
My projects include ride hailing software, healthcare platforms, and a KYC/KYB product. I’ve worked on authentication, payments, API integrations, realtime features, and building applications from concept through delivery.
I’m particularly interested in fullstack, backend, or mobile engineering roles. As a Tanzanian citizen, I would need the appropriate work authorization and would appreciate employers willing to support that process.
If you know companies hiring, local recruiters, or useful ways to connect with Monaco’s tech community, I’d appreciate any leads. I’m happy to share my CV, GitHub, portfolio, and project examples by DM.
Thanks for your time!

Why would any company in Monaco hire you when they could hire an EU citizen and avoid visa hassle?

It is very possible that a few companies in Monaco could have a total of 25 positions open for experienced IT/Software devs. They might find 15 in Monaco, 10 in the rest of the EU and then 5 from the rest of the world. It is not impossible.

You seem not to realise how horrific the software engineering job market is right now, and to look abroad when there are literally hundreds of thousands of experienced SWEs in neighbouring France, Spain, and Italy who are already here, don't need a visa, and speak the local languages.

I 100% understand this, what you need to realise is that sometimes experience and specialised fields can allow someone to have an advantage over all those others. Also, not everyone of those 100s of thousands you speak of, will apply/be qualified for the roles in Monaco.

I’d lean to a more tech focused country! Monaco admin is still using paper for documents… I’d for sure try America even though the political scene is a little crazy they’re very eager to win the tech race!

Unfortunately no, I have currently just started a Major 3 year project myself but when it ends I will be looking to move and Monaco is on my list of potential places. I will then be looking to see if anything comes up that is promising and real. In the mean time, look up different companies in Monaco, Tech and also Hotels, Banks, Schools/Universities. Learn French, try get to a really professional level. It will show potential employers that you are serious.
Don't pay attention to the haters on here, some are being honest about your chances but there is no such thing as a 0% chance.
Best advise I can give you is that CyberSecurity is going to be very important in the next years with AI. So that is a field that will want smart talented people.
Good luck.

You know what I hope he proves me wrong! Maybe instead of 0% it is 1% then. And not to be mean but what really good tech company is based in Monaco?

My friend it's not just tech companies that need developers. Banks, schools, government security services etc..
I hear what you are saying and I know it will be nearly impossible, but maybe he can be the lucky one.

I also hear what you are saying but there is a 99% chance he is wasting his time, government and school jobs are almost exclusively given to monégasque he could potentially try banks but there is just no way they would choose a foreigner over a local and I would know since I am in Finance.
I’m purely suggesting he focus his time and energy on something more secure and I wish him all the luck0

Why?

What do you actually know about Monaco other than it is home to the Uber rich and hosts a GP every year? Not a lot I'm guessing to be asking this question.

I’m exploring opportunities, which is why I asked for local insight. My ridehailing work is an example of engineering experience, not a proposal to operate a transport service in Monaco. I understand relocation adds complexity, and I’d expect an employer to assess whether my skills justify it. If you know relevant companies or recruiters, I’d appreciate specific pointers.

If you are exploring opportunities I suggest London, Barcelona and Paris. All have booming tech industries. Monaco has a very niche tech industry within a very niche country.

The best chance for him would be to look at companies that are owned by foreigners living in Monaco, then see if he can fill a unique gap. Expats will give other expats a chance.

Why do you think monaco is the place for your skills? Its not exactly Cote de Silicone.
Some basic research would not go amiss either. For example ride hailing apps are not allowed in Monaco.
