Good News! Mom, I made veggie stock from vegetable scraps for the first time!

It came out really good, just on the more mild side than I thought! I left it unsalted so I could season while cooking.

My fiance and I bulk bought veggies, spent the day dicing them all up and mixing them together to freeze in gallon freezer bags, and used the scraps to make stock. Now we have what we refer to as The Mix that's easy to add veggies to all of our meals.

When I lived with my parents, I was relying on fast food constantly. I am happy to be able to make homemade meals that are satisfying and nutritious without relying on buying each and every ingredient. Today, I'm going to attempt to make sandwich bread so we don't have to buy loaves (loafs?) from the store anymore. From eating fast food for 2-3 meals a day to making my own food from scratch, what a crazy four years its been!

Celebration! Mom, I got a perfect score on the LSAT!!

2.5k Upvotes

I got my score back for my LSAT and I got a 180 :D
Before I took the LSAT my parents told me that getting into a top 14 law school wasn't a realistic goal for me so i shouldnt even try because i'll only be disappointed. regardless of what they said ive kept it as my goal and now that ive gotten my LSAT score back and i got the highest possible score it feels like i have a real shot. Currently in the process of writing my applications and wanted to share with a mom that believes in me :)

Good News! Mom, I'm 34 and today I swam across a pool for the first time in my life

I know most people learn this when they're kids, but I never did. I've spent my entire adult life being the person who sits on the edge of the pool and says they're perfectly happy just watching.

Six weeks ago I signed up for adult swimming lessons. I almost turned around in the parking lot before the first one.

Today my instructor asked if I wanted to try swimming from one end of the shallow pool to the other without stopping.

I told her I didn't think I could.

She said, "Well, let's find out."

And I DID IT.

I swallowed some water, my technique was probably terrible, and I was so out of breath when I reached the wall that I couldn't even speak.

My instructor started clapping. Then this older gentleman in the next lane started clapping too, which was slightly embarrassing but also made me ridiculously happy.

I sat in my car afterward for about ten minutes because I couldn't stop smiling.

The first thing I wanted to do was call my mom and tell her. We don't really have the kind of relationship where she'd understand why this matters, so I thought maybe I could tell you instead.

I'm 34 years old and I learned something I thought I'd missed my chance to learn.

I even bought myself a little chocolate cake on the way home. It's in the fridge right now.

I think I'm going to put a candle in it.

Encouragement Wanted i passed my licensing exam today!!!!

hi mom(s) 🥰 after 8 grueling years of school while managing my chronic illness, i finally did it! after i got my exam results i felt exhausted yet relieved. but now, hours later i just feel wired and on edge. can’t sleep! excitement maybe?.. with a teeny drop of grief.

my bio family is alive and we have a non-existent relationship since i refused to be the family scapegoat/therapist/emotional toilet anymore. but even though i shouldn’t care it still stings a bit. my celebration strangely feels like a reminder of yet another milestone they’re not present at. i didn’t anticipate feeling this way after such a big accomplishment though im hoping some positive feedback here can help me turn my thoughts around thank you! ☺️

Encouragement Wanted Finally putting my health first!

Hi Moms!

After going through so much with my health and dealing with pain, and migraines, I am finally going to step away from my job and take some time off (could be 6 months to a year) to rest, and let my body go through the healing journey. It has been a long time coming, and I am definitely feeling nervous about taking a step back. Could use all the encouragement.

Encouragement Wanted I did it!

I did it! I found a job and got my first “Your the best!!!” from my hard to please, perfectionistic boss! I’ve been at this job 10 weeks.

Good News! I did it! I went to the job interview!

Hey mom, I had a job interview today, the commute there was horrid but the people were understanding. I did pretty good in the interview! I was confident, held my back straight and gave a kind smile and held eye contact. I was able to match the energy of the room and was able to reply to all their questions, even the rather rhetorical ones. I am so proud of myself for staying strong and not showing nervousness and I hope you are proud of me too!

Celebration! PhD thesis submission

Hey Moms, it’s been 2 days since I’ve submitted my PhD thesis now. I literally have no one else to share this news with, other than you guys. There’s still a long way left for my degree completion but just wanted to share with you all.
Thanks for all love, strength and support you guys have given me without even knowing. Lots of love and hugs for you all!!!🤗

Edit: Sorry I won’t be able to respond to everyone here but so much grateful and happy to see all your love and congratulations pouring out here. I’m literally in tears after reading the comments because otherwise no one even bothered to check on me. Can’t express it words how much each and every comment means to me ❤️🤗🤗

Good News! hey mom, I paid off my credit cards today

I don’t have many wins lately, so this small one feels astronomically huge. $863. I know it’s not much, but it wasn’t nothing either. it’s the debt I’ve collected in my first 6 months as a single mother. it’s represents so much to me, the strength and resilience I’ve shown this year, and coming out on the other end of this really big, hard thing.

I turn 26 in two weeks and it feels like things are falling into place, finally 🩷

Good News! First class in grade school

Today grades were posted and I got an A! Im 50 and first generation college in my family. Started grad school this year while working full time. I've taken large risks in life and career to get where I am. My parents are officially becoming elderly and sharing positive things in life is progressively met with some negative comments. I don't have many (any) ppl i can share anything with.

Good News! Hi mom, the work is paying off!

I got an email from the school that I was elected to Phi Betta Kappa. I can’t believe it. Maintaining these grades and courses while working full time and raising my son has been anything but easy. I’m so close to graduation now and this was just icing on the cake. Work is super proud of me too, and that feels good. I’m doing it, mom. I’m actually doing it. And the little one gets to watch it all unfold. For the first time I feel like I can start to acknowledge my accomplishment

Hi there, just wanted to hop on here to ask for a virtual hug and comforting words. I’m going through some hardships dealing with sibling and parental conflict. I feel like I don’t have a family I could lean into for emotional support. If anyone can offer me warm and encouraging words, I would appreciate it ❤️

UPDATE: Thank you everybody for your kind words. It has truly warmed my heart and made me feel less lonely. I feel the love from y’all through the screen ❤️

Seeking Advice How to keep my wardrobe under control?

Hi Mum. I really need some help figuring out how to reduce the amount of clothing I own. I've already gone through and chucked out anything I don't actually wear and my wardrobe is still spilling over!

How many clothes should I actually own?

My everyday wear at home is usually jeans or leggings with a band tee, and a hoodie or knitted nana jacket in winter. If I'm going out, I'll usually switch the tee for a nicer top and skirt or a dress, plus a jacket & layers underneath if it's really cold.

I live in a four season climate that ranges from blistering heat to freezing. So my clothes consist of jeans, leggings, tees, long sleeve tees, nice blouses, camis, lace over-shirts, short skirts, long skirts, summer & winter dresses, long jackets, cardigans, hoodies/jumpers, trackies, flannos. Then I've got the usual underwear/bras, stockings, gloves, skivvies, bike shorts for under dresses, a few pieces of shapewear. I have ankle issues, so shoes at least are fine: I can only wear lace-up knee boots or Skechers.

How do I decide what to keep and what to get rid of? How many of each item should I have? I really love clothes and before becoming a mum myself, I would wear nice outfits every day. I just don't have the energy atm with a preschooler! But I don't want to get rid of stuff I like and then regret it when I eventually get more free time (and sleep!).

So yeah, as you can see, I'm spiralling and suffering from decision-paralysis. I know my Mum would've instantly had a quota and a plan, and then kicked my arse into gear implementing it; but I just don't have those skills. Please help!

Good News! Mom I got my hysterectomy! NSFW

I have had 17 years of horrible pain. A doctor finally listened to me. I’m 30 and got my hysterectomy yesterday. I’m so happy. I’m in little to no pain—my recovery so far has been so much less painful than my periods. I kept my ovaries so hopefully no menopause stuff. My little brother has flown across the country to take care of me for a week. I’m so grateful to him, he’s a good person.
When I woke up after anesthesia I asked if it was a success. They said yes and I cried. They asked if I was okay and I was like, “Yes, these are very happy tears! I’m so happy!”
I feel like this is a new lease on life!!

Encouragement Wanted Hi mom, balance is hard

I got a new job which is great! It's overnights in the emergency room, so usually 7p-7:30a. I love it, but sometimes it can be physically and emotionally tiring?
I'm also in school again, which is great but I'm struggling. I'm in pre med and I haven't always been the best student, knowing I have institutional action remarks on my transcript from a previous attempt at a different degree and the school didn't do academic renewal, so I'm trying to revive an old GPA.

I'm trying really hard to work on my GPA but balancing work, sleep, and the other things I do that require me to complete tasks and sit in meetings is so hard! I really don't want to have to choose between work and school because right now I have a way to make it work with as little student debt as possible but it's very time sensitive.

How do I find the energy and the motivation to do the hard thing and complete my assignments/go to class when I'm so tired and my cup is empty?

Hello! My wife didn't get the new job she was very desperately looking forward to. I know that she loves browsing and commenting on this subreddit, so I am here to ask y'all to give her encouragement on this down week. She's really trying to work through the disappointment and keep hope for future career opportunities. I appreciate it!

Good News! Hi mom, I got my high school diploma!

I didn't think I could do it mom. I was "homeschooled" and never went to actual school. But last week at the ripe age of 27 I did it mom. It was scary and I really didn't think I could do it. But I took the testing for my hiset and passed everything first try! Even math! I thought for sure I would fail!

I just got my diploma in the mail today and it's making it all the more real. The mail carrier bent it, but that's okay.

I'm so proud of the little girl who truly thought she'd never make it this far in life and I hope you are too. :)

Encouragement Wanted Life is a little tough

Hi mom.
I went back to school at the age of 49 (51 now). I’m struggling more now that I’m postmenopausal. I’m exhausted from masking my autism (late diagnosis) and anything involving formulas is eating me alive (not so late ADHD and dyscalculia diagnoses). I feel like giving up. Do you have any advice or healthy coping mechanisms?

Encouragement Wanted 18M from Lagos — looking for some mom advice and encouragement

Hi moms,

I'm 18M from Lagos, Nigeria. Just finished secondary school / still figuring out my next steps in life, and sometimes I wish I had a mother figure to ask about decisions, motivation, and adulting.

I didn't really get that kind of guidance growing up and I love how supportive this community is.

I'm just looking for wholesome advice and encouragement, nothing weird at all. If any mom is open to being an internet mom to me, I'd really appreciate it.

Thank you.

Celebration! Life is looking up NSFW

Hey mom! I gave birth nine months ago (after 5 days of preterm labor, a failed epidural, and slightly premature) and our boy is officially saying "mama" and "dada"! He's doing exceptionally well for his adjusted age and he has such a big personality! My husband's chronic pain is actually being managed now and that's a huge step, and I've finished Christmas shopping for the first time ever!!!! I'm also in my last year of school while working full time, taking care of my husband, our son, and our dog. I'M SO BEYOND HAPPY WITH MY LIFE NOW!

Good News! Hey moms, I (barely) passed my practice medical boards

I took a practice test for my medical boards - it's a while til I have to take them for real, so I was very surprised to have passed! I don't feel ready to take them any time soon but this feels like a milestone.

My bio mom never really understood me but she understood test scores, and she used to be so proud of me.
