Does anyone else prefer Rob with free flowing hair?
And why did he stop letting it down?

This thread is where all discussion related to James’s statement at The Sphere is to be contained.
>Unless you live in Vegas, you've come a long way to spend some time with Metallica. We're grateful for that — your travels, the money you spend, the time it took, thanks for coming to celebrate with us. And I just gotta say, Metallica is not here, like some other 'entertainers', to influence you with their bullshit, OK? We are here — no bullshit — we're here to forget about all the outside shit, OK? Metallica's agenda is love, energy and heavy music, baby!
GROUND RULES:
Onto another matter: the annual explanation for why the sub is so adamantly against political discussion.
There are two reasons.
One is that it’s too fucking hard to moderate. We try to keep the moderation team small here so that it’s easier to manage. If you’ve been on Reddit long enough, you know that massive moderator teams become faceless machines that abuse their power and don’t care about your appeals. In order to avoid that happening to this sub, I have wanted to keep our mod team just big enough to handle the job. But when political posts get made, the workload increases exponentially due to the toxic political climate of today.
The second reason is because I’m tired of toxic politics infecting every single thing that I enjoy, and I do echo what James said- I want to forget about all the outside bullshit and just enjoy music sometimes. I did not come in here and make this decision all by myself, this was a popular sentiment when I took charge of this community and I’m pretty sure we even took a vote on it, whether to outright ban politics or find some way to moderate it better.. in the consensus was to ban it outright, we don’t need this community being yet another political battleground. But every time some situation like this comes up, some people feel that if you don’t participate in debate, that’s as good as endorsing fascism. But that’s an unfair charge because I’m willing to participate in the debate in the proper channels, I just don’t believe that this is one. Maybe we need to make another sub Reddit called “MetallicaPolitics” or something.
If you believe that politics should be discussed openly, everywhere, all the time, then this community is not for you and I strongly recommend you find one that is a better fit. You are also welcome to create your own.
As always, if you have a post or comment removed and you don’t understand why, you are not only welcome but you are encouraged to message us and discuss it. We always accept respectful discourse, and we will explain things to you. We have also admitted mistakes and corrected those mistakes. Sometimes, because we are humans, we interpret something differently than it was meant to be interpreted and all we need is a clarification. There are plenty of users out there who, if they were willing to speak up, can attest to this fact- we have apologized and admitted we were wrong countless times. But if you show up in modmail guns blazing, you’re not likely to get anywhere. There is no utility in that, so please don’t do it. You are not expected to grovel or be overly polite, just don’t be a dick. That’s all.
Enjoy the discussion and please keep it clean.

I collect audio cd's and this is my favourite metallica album. But I wanted to hear your opinion about it being the one with a polygram label. I mean, its not the original one from 1984, its a later release but it still looks legit to me tbh

Was looking at the diamond plated stairs on the machine at my job and noticed a familiar looking shape, wonder if this is where James got his inspiration?
EDIT: I'm aware that it's the M from the classic logo and that it's meant to look like a ninja star, but my thought was maybe James got the idea to arrange it that way because he had seen some diamond plating while doing hotrod work or elsewhere, and I included the diamond plate guitar because he obviously had enough of an attraction to that look to want a guitar like that. Sorry for not making that more clear!

It's my favorite Metallica album (and one of my favorite albums of all time) but what do y'all think of it? Personally, I like its raw energy, whether it's the blistering speed on some songs or James's old vocals.

Found this guy loose at a flea market yesterday, paid a couple dollars so it was worth the buy no matter what. Just looking to find out a little more info on it if anyone has the knowledge, much appreciated.
After some research I cant find any for sale online from this era with same color and logos. There was a post to this reddit a couple years ago of a similar one but the “Important” logo is different. I also see 2 others sold on music sites for $50 and $30 but Idk how long ago they sold. So how rare is this nowadays and is it an original release cassette from 1983?

Photo of James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Jason Newsted outside of KSJO Studios in San Jose, California, December 18, 1997, with guest musicians from the Don't Call Us, We'll Call You radio gig, Pepper Keenan (Corrosion of Conformity), Sean Kinney and Jerry Cantrell (Alice in Chains), Gary Rossington (Lynyrd Skynyrd), Jim Martin (Faith No More), John Popper (Blues Traveler), and Les Claypool (Primus). These musicians all appeared as guests on the track "Tuesday's Gone" from Garage Inc.

At a surface level, particularly for the type of person who has only listened to Metallica and no other thrash bands, it might seem completely absurd to make this argument. However:
Thrash bands frequently write about topics because they are evil or dark without passing any kind of judgement or attempting to convey a message. Angel of Death, which was long accused of being pro-Nazi, is not a political song. The band assumes the audience already realise than Nazism is bad, instead focusing on the horror of Dr. Mengele's actions for purely lurid purposes. Silent Scream is about abortion but Slayer are not a "pro-life band". In a similar vein, Ride the Lightning is not pro- or anti-death penalty, nor is Creeping Death any indication of Metallica's stance on Judaism, organised religion or Egyptian pharaohs.
"But the song is based on the book" The concept of the song, a man trapped in his body without limbs or senses, was conceived during the MOP writing period with no reference to war initially. It was only later on that one of the band managers pointed out the concept had been done in a book. The novel serves as a framing device (and gives a convenient reason to why a man wakes up with no arms or legs) but the genesis and meaning of the song are completely focused on the sensation of helplessness experienced by the man, rather than the politics of whether war is good or bad.
"But it still portrays war as bad" Everyone knows war is bad, but there is a difference between being anti-war and accepting war as a grim necessity. Anti-war songs (Fortunate Son, Universal Soldier...) are explicitly the former. The song doesn't point to either position. There is no commentary on whether the war was a 'just war' or not. We know from external context that the eventual framing was probably WW1 but there is nothing in the song itself that points to WW1 specifically. Additionally, helicopters were not used in WW1. As such, the song is equally applicable to a soldier injured in what are commonly considered "just wars" (American Civil War, WW2) as "unjust wars" (WW1, Vietnam). The politics of war and which war exactly are external to the core of the song: the situation of the man himself in a hospital bed.
TL;DR: 'One' is not a song that actually passes any judgement on the concept of war itself. Like so many thrash songs, it's dark for darkness sake, focusing on human experience rather than wider issues.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
ok ok, I un-subbed from here because I'm not going to the Sphere shows until the very last two days in march. I did allow myself to see the outside of the Sphere.
So naturally getting a new phone, means new wallpaper!

I decided to put a BUNCH of Metallica concerts on iTunes dubbed “The Carefully Chosen Concerts Collection” such as, for example, I chose 3 shows from the 2014 By Request shows:
2014.03.18 - Quito, Ecuador
2014.03.24 - Asunción, Paraguay
2014.06.28 - Pilton, England (Glastonbury)
I will upload the ENTIRE list once the collection is complete and will be divided by tours

How has this been working for those that have done it? I received an email that there is a special pickup line, is that for room keys as well or do you check in like normal for your room?
