I have been listening to alot more Violent Sleep of Reason for the past week and am amazed by the patterns in the song "By the Ton" and then I started wondering this question.

Sitting here listening to summer breeze open air 2019 show they have up on YouTube. I’ll be honest I’ve always skipped past THTFYF. Always blew it off as a bit monotonous. NO.

The rhythmic structures within this song are DEEP. Smoke a joint, close your eyes, and pay attention to the insane descent into hell that this song takes you on. Total mind fuck of a song if you really pay attention. That constant pummeling on the snare that’s like a frantic blacked out metronome keeping the whole thing together is sublime

Side note: the level of precision and groove they achieve in that show is insane. It’s almost comical how good they sound here

If you sound like Jens Kidman, please dm me!

Just discovered this band and album. Seems to be the only one. Definitely for fans of Meshuggah

The outro to this track is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I’ve ever heard. I saw a comment on youtube that said that the song “feels like acceptance” and I completely agree with that interpretation. Just curious about other people’s takeaways from the song, the outro especially.

Does anybody know what way the drums were programmed?

eg. did Thomas play the parts on a MIDI kit and then they went from there?

Or did they really program them all by placing the notes on a sequencer? And was it just Thomas doing the programming or did all the band work on them?

It always blows my mind they went this route when they have this badass drummer haha its like if Van Halen had made an album with midi guitar

Hexagonal bolts to fill my mouth
Sharpened to deplete

Norway 2011, https://youtu.be/d-d6-CWF6aQ?is=Gy1kr6bmhfkoZEMz. He was 45 years old and still screaming like this, insane.

Made with diluted bleach. I have no words

Mechanical compound eye

Imposed observance. Sentries in the sky

Vigilant lenses. Objectives belied

In blackened heavens covertly they hide

They see you. They see all. They know all indiscretions

Compiler of your dreams, your indignations

Following your every single move

They see you!!!!!!!!!!

If you're unaware, there's an interview with Hakke where he mentions that he wanted Black Cathedral to directly transition into I Am That Thirst, instead of having dead space like there is on the release.

Unfortunately he was outvoted by the rest of the band (W for democracy) but I personally think this sounds WAYYYY cooler. Maybe they wanted just a bit more breathing room in between each song, or maybe they were never meant to connect and it was a spur of the moment idea.

I stitched these together with Spotify's mix feature so we can see Hakke's version.

Rough demo of some riffs!

Could this be a deluxe edition or something, coming up on 15 years soon

I’ve been on a Miles Davis kick lately, particularly the Bitches Brew album. I’ve simultaneously been discovering the depths of Catch 33. What a masterpiece of an album. Anyways, it occurred to me this morning that they both tickle the same spot that makes me enjoy listening to them. I’ve long recognized that both jazz and metal provide the soothing qualities my brain desperately needs sometimes but I’ve not equated two artists and more specifically two albums so closely. Anyways, if you’ve not given Miles Davis a listen start with “Miles Runs the Voodoo Down” from Bitches Brew. 🤘😆🤘

One of the best and most inspiring albums ever for me personally! Still feels so current. The title track is probably my favorite song they’ve ever done. Let’s all reflect on its brilliance today!

Happy tenth anniversary!

Bit tipsy right now, freezing my ass off in wonderful New Zealand, and blasting Immutable 2025 through my headphones. This album is truly made to be listened to at full volume (the others too, but this one even more so). Happy as hell that I saw the tour 4 times, unfortunately not the the 2025 leg though. Anyways, bang yer heads to that 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
