First time proper cosplay

Always been the guy who goes the extra mile for basic costume events. I am finally going all in on a costume, bringing my DnD character to life. Hopefully for MCM Comic Con London, but definitely for Halloween. Very nervous about getting to each event using public transport. Help. Advise. Comfort.

I find one of the great joys of MCM London is being in cosplay on public transport, and slowly spotting more and more cosplayers the closer to the ExCel you get, and sharing the smile and community of "We're all going to the same place - let's help each other get there".

HOWEVER if you really aren't comfortable getting public transport in cosplay, there are changing rooms at the ExCel, or depending on how much it takes to get from civvies to cosplay I've seen folks just grab a corner of the hall to finish putting stuff on before

Depends which route you’re travelling from (and how far out) but it’s always fun when you start spotting fandom t-shirts, cosplays etc on the way!

Don't wanna doxx myself obvs but SE London to Central. Probably a combo of walking, bus, train, tube and DLR all in one day! I'm sure it'll be fine as I gravitate towards the mothership. Just worried about the 1 idiot. Not because I'm scared, but because I'm not... and that gets me in trouble sometimes.

Honestly I’ve seen people cosplaying all the way from Croydon (and I’ve done it myself!). Which character are you thinking of cosplaying as? I’m not going to the autumn one but I’m going all in for next May!

My character is a Tiefling Ranger. Odd combo, I know. I am excited to wear horns!

I’ve worn various cosplays and cosplay elements on public transport. Joker makeup and full purple suit, lizard scales and a torn lab coat, old man makeup, scars, a gold tooth, and nobody has ever said anything.

Maybe I’ve had some strange looks, but most people know it’s rude to stare and won’t make comments, and the closer you get to ExCel, the more people you’ll see who are also in costume (and probably in weirder costumes than you).

And if you do feel judged by someone, just remind yourself that they’re boring and your life is way cooler than theirs is right now. So if they’re staring, it probably means they’re jealous of your awesome cosplay.

Have fun!

The good news is that you’re going to be in London. You’re not going to be anywhere near the most interesting thing anyone has seen that day. 😂 If they even notice you they’ll probably think you’re on the way to a stag.

These are such valid points. I'm normally never self conscious, especially in London all of a sudden the wearing of horns and armour makes me nervous!
