I know this would make queue times atrocious but…
….. I REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY want a game mode that is QP with ranked rules so we can ban some characters. I have some friends I play with, some of them are vastly different ranks, others play on PC and some on console. It is impossible to play a semi-competitive game on quick play where you’re also forced to deal with meta slop constantly. I just wish I could play something that feels “ranked-like” with my friends where we can ban stupid Dino/Emma/Elsa/Psylocke/Gambit/Phoenix etc etc

I can partly agree with this. There has to be a Peni, Spiderman, Namor, or Wanda in like 80% of QP games. You bound to run into one of these mfs

The closest thing is Free Fight, one of the arcade modes. It’s a casual mode where they remove the single character limit, but you have bans. It can be fun and a lot of times people will mess around with goofy double characters in the beginning but after a while it normally becomes a regular match.

Gotta love how I’m being downvoted for daring to share information. I’m sure there are plenty of people out there who don’t know there’s a casual, crossplay mode with bans.

Your not supposed to be competitive in quickplay. Its just there to find a quick match or chill out farming proficiency in a setting where you can still learn the character.

We read it and we’re here to remind you that the point of competitive and QP is that one is ranked and the other is not.
And nobody wants to play Comp with console and PC together because the skill difference would be ridiculous which is why QP exists for fun.

This game would win a substantial amount of its playerbase back if it provided a game mode where friends across multiple ranks can play together under ranked rules and still be able to ban while also participate in both offense and defense

I feel like what he's asking for isn't that crazy though. I'm pretty sure even LoL has a draft game mode that isn't ranked but still allows bans so it's been done before in other games.
To your credit, I HIGHLY doubt NetEase would ever implement something like that but I think it'd be cool if they did.

I doubt this game has enough of a player base to justify an inbetween game mode when we already have arcade/random event mode/QP/comp and our comp games have long qs and QP has a huge number of bot matches to make sure people don’t q too long.
That and the reason QP is so popular is that banned characters can play it would kind of make a third mode where they’re banned pointless.

Yeah that's why I don't think NetEase would ever do it but it'd be nice if they did.
I just personally want a mode where I can practice against comps and heroes that I'll see in ranked without risking my or my teammate's elo while I learn tank. Having bans would be a great way to get the high ban rate characters out of the way and play more against characters I'm more likely to see in ranked.
QP was cool for practice at first but, like you said, everyone just picks characters that are banned so it's not really the same environment. Like right now apparently Dino's banned 24/7 in ranked but if I go to qp to practice, there's going to be dino, elsa, etc. everywhere.

I mean, you can just do that on Ranked though? It’s just a game. Unless you’re OAA or something, you don’t risk much by playing in Ranked.
For example, if I fall from GM to plat/d3 because I’m playing on school holidays, that’s when I work on my weakest characters. Most of those matches are eomm and people are almost worse at playing than in QP half the time so I don’t lose anything by playing a character I’m working on.
The whole point of ranked is that there’s bans, if there wasn’t then half the player base would disappear imo

To wrap this up, all I'm gonna say is:
1.) Why would adding a 3rd *optional* game mode cause playercount to drop even more? People that don't like it can just continue playing the QP and Ranked like you said. I saw some other examples of people naming other games that have this like Rainbow 6 Siege so clearly there are multiple games that have this game mode and didn't suffer losing half their playerbase leaving.2.) Playercount is already dropping rn for a number of completely separate reasons. We can't track console playercount but PC is at it's lowest in the game's history so it's safe to assume that overall playercount is at a slight downwards trend.
3.) I said "I just want a game mode where I can practice *without risking my or my teammate's elo*". I personally don't think ranked is the place for trying/testing new stuff for the first time. If you disagree that's fine but I wouldn't be happy with playing with their Day 1 Spideys in my ranked games and I don't think people would be happy with my Day 1 Venom/Hulk etc. in their games. And I've tried practicing them in QP but QP is a lot more chaotic since there aren't bans, people randomly leave 24/7, and you're going to see a ton of broken/unbalanced characters that are usually banned in ranked. The gameplay experience is very different between the two.
In the end, this is all opinion. I think there's no harm in NetEase adding a 3rd optional mode that was draft-style with no rank system tied to it. Again, I DON'T think they ever will, but I and many others think it would be cool if they ever did one day.

I really want Unranked.
Other games I like have it, like Siege.
