People always talking about "But this game promotes creativity in comps and unique teams!"
People harrass their teammates for not going 2-2-2 and every comp outside of 2-2-2 is hated so what creativity 😭✌️

Speaking from a personal perspective, I don’t enjoy playing into or as a part of triple role team , mainly because it’s very rarely communicated as such. When a Tank or DPS is going negative and swaps to strategist without a word, it’s great they were willing to swap, but there’s no thought for team dynamic other than “I suck rn, I’m gonna go healer and hope people don’t notice”. There’s no thought to damage output lowering, or if the 1-2-3 works into the enemy, or anything tactical other than playing a different role. And it works sometimes! But it’s not a perfect tactic, and not understanding why or how triple tank/dps/support should work or be played makes it hard to trust it all when it pops up.

Then that means there needs to be a rework if they can't be viable in a 222 comp.

u/HorribleAce 2h ago
You don't even need to be a little bad for that to happen though. Venom's will dive behind backlines and flyers will put themselves in cramped corners in the top of the map and then shout at you for not leaving your team and running in to the enemy team to get a heal off on them.
In my experience, 75% of 'bad healers' in this game are actually just bad Tanks and DPS's who believe I should prioritize them over the rest of the team that did stay in position.
5
u/ProphetBlade 13h ago
This is what they say to convince themselves they're secretly genius for allowing their team to have a solo tank. It would be a much more believable line if the community ever went triple tank anywhere near as frequently as they go triple dps or triple support.
3
u/profanewingss 13h ago
Also people bitch and moan whenever a different comp is viable. You lock 1-3-2 and it's always "DPS instalockers ruin the game!", you lock 2-1-3 or 1-2-3 and it's "Triple support ruins the game!", you lock 3-0-3 and it's "Second coming of GOATs! Nothing dies this is miserable!", then god forbid you run anything without 1 tank.
These people WANT role queue without role queue.
3
7
u/Barrry972 14h ago
Its not just the comps tho, it's being able to freely swap what role you want to play.
This community loves to yap about """"skill expression"""" then actively asks for it to be removed
21
u/joobroob98 14h ago
I’d argue it takes more “skill expression” to be locked to your role in game. Let’s say you’re getting hard diffed on tank. A perfectly viable strategy is to just say fuck it and go a third support and win.
Being locked into your role rewards being actually better than the enemy player on the same role, and avoids toxic comps like trip supp.
2
u/Twink-in-progress 12h ago
Okay but if you’re a support main and decide “I wanna play tank!”, and then you’re a horrible tank that does your entire team a disservice, you should be able to swap to support so that your team doesn’t lose. By locking people into their roles, you’re putting the onus on every single individual to objectively evaluate their own performance mid-game with no opportunity for their team to meaningfully correct it. If you have a terrible DPS or tank, you can make that up by going triple support. If you have one useless support and one that’s doing average and nobody can swap to add more support, you’re guaranteed to lose the game. I’ve also had matches where the other team is doing some kind of weird comp, and we’ve had to do something that mirrors it to counter the team. It’s way more fun to play that way, and it allows the team to try and compensate for bad players as best as they can.
-4
u/Barrry972 14h ago
There's a limit to how flexible one can be on just a single role. There's some days that it genuinely does not matter what I do, I just cannot perform on tank and need to swap to a different role to get value.
Like yesterday for instance, I'm pretty good at tank, but they were playing CC demons, so I got cooked on venom, cooked on thing and cooked on Rogue (other tank was already on mag so that wasn't an option).
We ended up winning that game because I swapped to torch and was finally getting some value (and mostly cause our dps was cracked regardless).
Contrary to what people will tell you, 3 dps CAN and does work. It's not an auto lose situation.
10
u/Same_paramedic3641 14h ago
You were getting cooked bcz you couldn't play any tank that can work against cc. Hood, emma, deadpool heck even cap and groot
-3
u/Barrry972 13h ago
I was on deadpool first point and it was working I will admit, but after like 180 hours on the guy I really just wanted to play something else and not overly sweat on my main in QP. They swapped off dino after the first point so I figured I'd be able to play venom because we had a phoenix, but it didn't work out.
If I really wanted to yeah I coulda thugged it out bored on deadpool to a win but being able to just swap roles made the game more engaging and fun
7
u/Guccicles 13h ago
That’s QP bro, I don’t think anyone wants role queue in QP, we’re talking about ranked here
1
u/Barrry972 13h ago
Well this anecdote was just about qp, but theres a lot of instances where I swap roles when I'm not getting value on one. The point generally still stands.
0
u/Same_paramedic3641 13h ago
Fuckin QP. Who tf cares about balance or compositions in qp? U can play 4 dps i wouldn't care
1
u/Barrry972 13h ago
Maybe this community is so perpetually angry and bent out of shape because you guys play exclusively ranked lol
1
u/Same_paramedic3641 12h ago
Nah I'm mostly playing qp nowadays. I just don't come online to rant about a qp game. Nobody sane does that
-2
u/SuckmyPelosB1tch 14h ago
In that same vein if someone is being diffed on their role, they could swap with someone else who can maybe perform better than them into whatever the enemy team is playing. That’s why I think I’d prefer role lock and not queue so you can switch with someone else, just make it so you can’t select/hover more than 2 dps
3
u/InfiniteTatamiDAZE 14h ago
There's arguably more skill expression involved when it comes to playing into and adapting against unfavorable matchups. Demonstrates how much a grasp you have on your character/role when you're able to play around weaknesses. Swapping role is mid game is also arguably detrimental because most players across almost every single competitive game cannot play multiple roles at the same skill level. The way you learn and improve is by dedicating most of your time to one role and one/two characters. Constantly swapping doesn't let you actually learn.
2
u/Most-Bench6465 14h ago
I think the role queue should like this this 1/1/1 and 3 flex players. It doesn’t have to be strictly 2/2/2. As long as the game has a guaranteed tank and a guaranteed support with 2 flex players then that should be the goal.
Preventing getting a game with 5 dps players is much much more important than whatever the fuck we have now.
2
u/sneakychalupa23 13h ago
Why do people think it’s impossible to implement a system to swap roles with someone else inside of role queue? It’s not hard
2
u/GreedyLibrary 12h ago
Any games that do it well?
3
u/mister--g 12h ago
Why cant this be the first to introduce it and do it well?
2
u/GreedyLibrary 12h ago
If no company has successfully done something in 2 decades i am not sure we can describe it as not hard. Very rarely is something good the first time it is ever done.
1
u/meepingchaos 10h ago
With that mindset nothing new is ever created.
2
u/GreedyLibrary 10h ago
The mind set of not dismissing hard things as easy or expecting first attempt to not be perfect?
Those are the qualities of creators, you recognise the effort things take and appreciate the results even if it is not great the first time. Dismissing it as "not hard" is disrespectful to the person who did all the work and dismissing somebody's first attempt because it is not perfect is what kills innovators.
1
u/meepingchaos 10h ago
I’m not the one who said it’s an easy task, but the way you’re phrasing it makes it seem as though the first attempt is not worth the effort.
0
u/sneakychalupa23 9h ago
I don’t give a shit if I’m dismissing a company’s work if they’re selling a product and it’s bad. They’re making a product to be consumed/purchased. If it’s bad, that’s on them, and people won’t consume it. It simply is not a hard task to create a way for people to swap roles when you have 100s of millions at your disposal and a huge team of professionals. Blizzard doesn’t do it because they don’t care, it’s not because it’s “hard.” Also who is dismissing anything??? Rivals hasn’t implemented shit, so what is there to dismiss?
1
u/sneakychalupa23 9h ago edited 9h ago
It’s not like there’s some long list of successful hero shooters that follow the holy trinity system. Overwatch, Rivals and Paladins are basically the only ones.
Simple way is to just let two players swap roles when agreed upon. “Well people won’t do that.” Thats already a problem with the current system, this would at least be an option to let people willingly swap roles in role queue. That took two seconds to come up with, I’m sure pros can think of something with millions of dollars and experience.
1
2
u/CleanMartean 13h ago
That's because if we go 4/2 and the dps all suck, the only creativity is the different ways they can all lose
1
u/Grimsmiley666 14h ago
Exactly and the only valuable comp is triple heals until you play triple tank to counter it other than that everyone is screaming 2 2 2 lmao
1
u/Danica_Rose 13h ago
Fr like the game is genuinely designed to be 2-2-2 with the exception of like mantis, ultron and Adam but they can just be reworked to function in a 2-2-2 environment just fine if damage and healing ratios were tuned properly across the board.
1
u/IpunchedU 9h ago
If you go over 2 it’s either shit like 3 DPS or op like 3 tanks or 3 supports, they clearly can’t balance it

u/Forsaken_Duck1610 14h ago
Cause that's a problem with the playerbase wanting to be handheld and not allow room for individual performance. It's possible to stomp with 6 dps. Maybe not easy, but possible. Dependent on effort and knowing what you're doing.
Issue is too many Karens play support, so instead of having some kind of self imposed criterion on how they can do THEIR best, they lecture everybody else about not wiping their ass for them
9
u/No_Television315 14h ago
Yeah man keep going 6 DPS, those support players are just whiners for sure
👀👀👀
-2
u/Forsaken_Duck1610 14h ago edited 14h ago
Dps has self imposed criterion for improving and doing well. Support doesn't. That's when why when they do poorly, they attribute it to everyone not "peeling"
I'd rather have an extra dps who can properly display target priority and contribute than someone sleeping on their keyboard holding m1 as Rocket and doing nothing else. Then blame the team, because they'd rather wait around to be dove than engage with the mechanics.
If Rivals supports were skill expressive and made plays while being subject to a universal standard to/at the other roles, Like Lucio or Zen, that'd be a different story.
But supports get the most developer intervention, buffs, emergency hotfixes, ult charge, favoritism etc etc.
Like, I have to stress, you do this to yourselves. Either you get to coast by and healbot, or you develop skills in a fair environment without relying on crutch mechanics and 3 forms of immortality so you don't get called boosted. But you don't get to have both. You don't get to tell me that healbotting takes some abundance of talent and my 5 12 Rocket is doing fantastic.
6
u/No_Television315 14h ago
I think your beef with support players is getting in the way of your objectivity here man
→ More replies (3)1
u/oMouseHouse 9h ago
If I play a support and do anything other than backline healbotting, I immediately get hit with "gg no heals" when they inevitably walk down mid holding W expecting infinite heals. Supports don't have room for anything other than healbotting and hoping for some form of peel or escape/counter dive tool in their kit.
3
u/embracing_ebony 13h ago
...insane to be saying this in a game where 3+ dps, who won't switch even with negative kd into their hard counters, are the norm. It means that you either have 1 less tank, who can't get the space they need to take and it's all on them to do that, in a game where damage creep is rampant, or you have one less support, who can't properly do that for the entire team, based on said damage creep. Support is powerful, but it can only do so much. Especially if you are facing dive because if the support(s) get blown the fuck up, or even just not hard pocketing the tank, the tank melts, and the whole fight devolves.
In order for 3+ dps to work, they have to essentially be good enough to do the job in lieu of proper team comps. Not complaining about lesser heals, no complaining the tank is dying, because you are subtracting the team utility for damage. And most importantly, if it's not working, you have to switch. Because this is a team game.
However, in most cases yall aren't. You just aren't. Ego, embarrassment, or just plain stubbornness keeps you playing damage, which just fucks over the other players, in the team based game mind you, and instead yall find ways to blame others for your performance, when if you played to support the team through tanking or healing, you off-rip would have a statistically better chance of winning.
Toxicity, ego, unbalanced team comps (not just triple dps, but triple support, triple tank as well), and damage creep are killing this game. Like, role queue alleviates of that. And even beyond that, you can have open queue modes, it's not either or. And you can properly have a baseline team comp to balance your damage and healing numbers around and bring up healers that underpreform in dual support without breaking them in triple.
Yall say yall want freedom in team comps, but like, you currently have it, and aren't doing anything with it. And even then, you're just more likely to switch around the role you are playing than go off role. The only issue I've potentially seen is dps-specific queue times, but just go open queue. It's literally that easy, because it's not either-or.
11
u/SaltyNorth8062 14h ago
I'm more shocked at the 2 tank games. I legitimately got ONE 2 tank game last season for what little I played and that was entirely because of The Hood
11
u/mister--g 12h ago
Unfortunately the only way to play a dps in this game is to turn off that part of your brain that cares about teamwork & winning and just lock in your choice from the start.
After 10 seasons I've come to accept that you have to hard ego your preference in an open queue format. Unfortunately it means leaving someone to solo tank occasionally or insta losing with 4 dps who wont switch.
9
u/FunNo1459 5h ago
Also can we talk about the smurfing problem in this game? Like how the hell did we accept the explaination that "Oh I need to smurf so I can learn this new character" from high elo players? Bitch play quickplay then? Play bot matches. You should not be able to screw over the comp experience of everyone else with your better mechanics and game knowledge because you don't want to derank by learning against people with the same skill as you.
2
u/Cheap_Bluebird1784 3h ago
I know a lot of people HATE overwatch, but, they need to put blizzard type of system to get rid of smurfs, like as an example, phone number, that system is great and it will be less smurfs than it was before

19
u/No_Television315 13h ago
The people locking 3rd and 4th DPS currently don't think that far ahead though. They just join queue, choose their favourite guy, w key into the enemy until they hit a loss screen then rinse and repeat.
I think the disconnect comes from the fact people don't realise that these guys are actually fine with this.
It's the rest of us who wanna win who suffer.

Waiting five minutes for a twelve minute ranked match would kill the game quick. Would only work if the matches themselves were considerably longer.

Not talking about you but I love people bring up this point but role que came around about same time OW stopped getting consistent good updates like I was there for the content drought of 2020-2023 while 2 was being worked on. Like yes Role que totally killed it not that we were left like fish in a desert for years.
2
u/SSJMonkeyx2 4h ago
People who say Role Queue killed OW out themselves as complete tourists and don’t know what they are talking about. Role queue legitimately saved OW because the devs had no idea how to balance the game as Goats ran rampant
6
u/69nemesis 13h ago
i love the idea of role queue SO MUCH. i want to be able to play dps and not have to worry about being healed and having damaged tanked for me, but then again, role queue in ranked for my server would make it even harder for me to find a match. sometimes I have to wait upwards of 10 minutes just to find a game, that's how bad it is. just think how much longer I'd have to wait with role queue because barely anyone would be queueing as a tank 😿
9
u/Conscious_Mammoth_49 14h ago
B- b-but think of the dps players who will have to wait 1 minute of queue time instead of 15 seconds

People who say that always try and say “Role Que killed overwatch” yet in both QP and Ranked role que is played significantly more.
OW died because of horrid balancing (sounds familiar?) and lack of content.

u/Good_Arm69420 6h ago
It's played more only at the expense of tank players. The average queue times for dps in ow1 6v6 was in the double digits. They needed to straight up remove a tank to make it work and at that point it's no different to a 1-3-2 comp.
5
3
u/ASMRLadAndLass 7h ago
The biggest upside to role queue is that if you're a tank player you'll find another player who will want to play tank as well instead of a person who was forced into the role because the dumbass went third dps/support and the person who swapped didn't wanna lose because of it.
5
u/Different_Potato_179 14h ago
Bro it is SO bad now. I am a support main, but I often flex tank and I really enjoy dps. But if I DARE to take dps then you can guarantee I'm going to be harrassed to swap, or stuck with an u winnable 5 dps 1 support comp, or someone is going to throw on support/tank because they're having a tantrum since I wouldn't give them dps.
Its always so hilarious too when they show me all their lords as if thats going make me go "Oh wow! Sir yes sir! Please take dps from me, you're clearly a god and I a mere mortal!"
4
u/oliferro 12h ago
People saying it would kill the game just don't want role queue personally because it makes no sense when Overwatch is doing better right now with a role queue

My last game, I played with a team that thought it would be a good idea to go four support and two tank mid game…. Guess which team lost. I’d do anything for role queue
2
u/Goodlifegaming 9h ago
I thought the same thing as the devs when it launched and up until last week when I switched back to Overwatch for a few days for the first time…Role que is infinitely better in every way, if split rank between your roles. Takes out 80% of the toxicity off rip, and allows you the peace to play what you feel in your heart you want to play…if you came to compete this is the way, or a compromise like HOTS has where you select your preferred role before que, that role shows up on your character when you get in a game and it tries to match people to fill all roles on the team. It even has a flex option so u can show u are willing to flex. This at a minimum would reduce a large amount of friction, never have a problem with team comp or not having a role filled in that game….too bad there is rampant cheating in overwatch right now and I couldnt play it more than a few days without losing my mind from the spin botting dps standing ontop of payload every other game

u/SiFu_Guac8503 5h ago
Agreed I quit the game recently bc I’m tired of always tanking or support I started this game as a dps player and was forced out of the role due to a lack of swapping from everyone else it’s just miserable
2
u/czacha_cs1 2h ago
My biggest issue with role queue is fact that it doesn't allow you to switch roles mid game. Not even to change 2-2-2 into 3 supports. More like "I struggle as tank so I go DPS nad my DPS goes tank"
I just hate fact that when I queue as tank, even if it's not my match I just have to finish it as tank. It's miserable for me and my team plays with one less person
1
u/Competitive_Fox5079 58m ago
We can add a swap button midgame easily that only occurs during the base where you can swap with somrone
1
u/Ok-Driver-1696 30m ago
That could be easily fixed by a mechanic similar to the surrenter vote system. You're signaling that you would prefer to swap to healer and/or duelist and someone can accept at any time your inquiery is open.

2
u/Twink-in-progress 12h ago
I think these are the things that are actually killing the game, but who knows I’m just an idiot on the internet sharing my perspective to the void.
Smurfs. High-level players in low-level comp matches that outperform the rest of the team and carry them to higher levels in team stacks. It throws off the balance and causes a compounding problem of genuinely skilled players playing well and playing with the team, but being dragged down by absolutely terrible players, or going against a four stack of smurfs on the enemy team. I get having multiple accounts if you have multiple consoles and a PC or some kind of equivalent situation, but if you have like eight different accounts? How can you even justify that?
Toxic in-game behavior. Throwing and refusing to swap are the biggest things I see that ruin the entire game for everybody, but general negativity ruins the game no matter what. When someone refuses to swap or starts throwing on your team because something pissed them off, that’s infuriating. If someone on the enemy team starts throwing, it’s no longer fun or difficult or challenging to win for your team. And the thing is that I genuinely believe that we’d have less of that if the response to people doing poorly wasn’t immediately “OH MY GOD YOU SUCK, YOURE SO ASS BRO LOG OFF”. Yes, there are immature people that will still throw regardless or get on the game just to troll. But if you report, behave yourself, and try to be a generally positive person, your matches go much better. And seriously, start reporting people that are screaming racial slurs and nasty stuff in VC. If you wonder what kind of people throw and play terribly and do annoying shit, it’s usually the same people that are screaming slurs and engaging in toxic behavior. They’re doing it for attention, don’t give it to them and just report them.
The balancing of the game. This is the big actual like, coding issue that I have with the game, because it’s something that I think everybody observes to a certain extent. The game punishes good gameplay from people who solo-queue with its matchmaking algorithm. If you want to guarantee that you have a consistent team most of the time, you need to have at least a three or four stack that can communicate effectively. That shouldn’t be a requirement for consistently workable matchmaking. The equation to winning should not go beyond having a fairly balanced, well-performing team, IMO.

u/Its1amrightnow 4h ago
The ranking system is ass. I been saying this since game release. Thankfully ppl are slowly realizing this even tho it's season 10 now. High level and low level comp is incredibly random. There's players who are gm/diamond peaks that stomp diamond and below . Not everyone has the same answer when they're asked wats considered high and low rank .
I do agree with mostly except the swap conversation a little bit. Hear me out. Alot of players expect ppl to play certain characters when some ppl don't play those characters. I myself and many others on my team and even the enemy team get called a thrower or bad. Just because we aren't playing a certain someone we possibly have zero time on. Rivals players have a psychological issue lmao.( Im no exception)
Goes back to my first statement. Ranking system is ass. They always balance for casuals/complainers. If anyone out there think this game is still competitive. Especially after they removed rank resets in the past you're delusional. "Good gameplay" is subjective in this game and community.

u/ArcTraderr 14h ago
As a celestial role queue would be okay but get rid of this game unique way of playing just hate always having to fill maybe preferred role would be nice so you pick what you want to play and the game tries to make it a 222 of each role it will still have the same problem as 3 dps but should happen less often and 312 is viable with hood or dino or offtanks but in general 222 is the best 213 is overrated because you don’t need to kill healers for value distractions work nearly as well as you can distract so your team gets picks while healers pattycake

That won't work because people don't know what's good for them. Nutease should just force it on people and ignore the backlash like they do every time

I stand-by and aggressively defend the role queue stance. They did NOT design this game to be 1-3-2/2-1-3/1-2-3 or whatever else hogwash people come up with. Going 2-1-3 doesn't tell us anything other than one of your DPS sucks. Going 1-3-2 just tells us that one of your DPS players still suck. Then going 1-2-3 just tells us that someone had the chance to go Vanguard but because they suck they'll rather heal.
It does not show skill at all. If everyone had to play the role they're ACTUALLY good at we would stop queuing into comp KNOWING that it's about to be some utter non-sense. Anyone who says "role queue will kill the game" is just a player that will sabotage your game because they're upset.
1
u/KidSpot777 11h ago
They should just have role limits if anything. You cant pick more than 2 dps, no more than 2/3 supports, no more than 3 tanks or something like that. I think in OW even in open queue you cant select more than 2 tanks.
1
u/imherbalpert 10h ago
I don’t understand why everyone is so… argumentative about this? Like it feels like so many people have an opinion to share on which would be better for the game and whatnot when they could literally just add it alongside QP/Ranked. Overwatch does that but also requires it for ranked, and Netease doesn’t even have to do that. They can just add it as another option and if anything it’ll distribute players more and help the games performance overall. Because it would just be the players choice to role queue or not. I don’t understand why there’s discourse when they can just add it alongside what’s already in the game. At least then they’d be able to know if it’s a popular idea or healthier.

1
u/Aftvrimage 10h ago
You're gonna have to select it first and then people will fill (most of the time)
1
u/LadyStellarDragon 9h ago
Picking a role is a game of chiken by itself to see who coward first and swap, or don't and see results.
I'll be lying if I said I havent won games with 4 dps and 2 healers thinking it was a certain defeat against a normal 2-2-2 comp and won against all odds and also be on the losing side with 2-2-2 comps losing to 4-2 or even worse 5-1 haha
1
u/Funny_Story_486 8h ago
Do you know what happen if you get role queue?
Tank who exclusively play Thor, Tankpool, Hood or other fat DPS,
Support who play exclusively Adam Ultron Healpool (who speed run the 5 kill path upgrade and play like DPSpool anyway) DPS Luna, and on a lucky day you get Jubilee
People will find their way to play DPS anyway, meanwhile the DPS queue itself queue time Ballon by >20 time people more likely or not queue tank and support just to DPS anyway, but the playerbase would get cut in half due to the comically high queue time
The only solution is one big balance change of solving the ongoing issue of current rival balancing to the point it will upset quite a lot of people who either completely relies on Healbot due to 0 cover awareness, or healbotter themselves.

Deadlock does two cool things,
one is not depend on specific roles (then again its a moba,, but I felt that it relied even less on "roles" compared to LoL). Every character just has their kit and the game is not reliant on healers (although there are other sources to mitigate damage such as items)
the other is that at the start of the match you choose at least three heroes, once the match starts you will be given one of those three. Here we could make a "choose your roster" from at least 4 heroes and once the game starts you can only pick from your roster. The game could match make based on the roster instead of role queue
1
u/Playful_Sentence3704 6h ago
I feel like if they added a soft role queue things would be better. Like just flag a box that says "I prefer playing [role] + [other role]" and then match people up in a 2/2/2 and just not lock people out of roles. Maybe this is the worst idea ever but it's at least something.
1
u/Alternative_Snow8472 5h ago
80% of the time it’s a 3 dps comp. Nice. They think everyone will fill or role swap for the “team” and ques 3 dps together for quick match find time.
1
u/Financial-Estimate82 Tickle Monster 1h ago
And so as per your own words role queue would make matchmaking even longer than it already is.
1
u/ImmediateAnteater491 4h ago
im still confused as to why they made teamups active the way they are. Like why not just make them interchangable perks for each character atp.
1
u/AffectionateWalk0122 1h ago
Wouldn’t it be possible to have a separate option for role queue?? Like they already have the game mode selection screen they could easily add role queue matches to that
1
u/Lord_Seregil 42m ago
Fuck role queue, let's talk about role limits if anything. The ability the kick someone off DPS and onto support should still be there.
1
u/Malacky_C 38m ago
Role queue is one of the main reasons why I play overwatch and like it more then rivals. This issue is very prevalent
2
u/No-Task540 9h ago
role queue causes more issues than it fixes bc the instalock dps aren't gonna wanna magically pick up tank and the only reason it "worked" in ow is bc they had to reduce the team count from 6 to 5 bc no one wanted to go 2nd tank
1
u/FunNo1459 4h ago
OW is 6v6 again and role queue is still the most popular mode...
1
u/No-Task540 4h ago
6v6 is hardly being played and role queue is popular bc of the one less tank requirement (and also bc it was the main mode before they re-added 6v6)
1
u/Specialist-Cap1517 12h ago
The disdain for role queue is so annoying. It fixes problems that people keep bitching about, that otherwise have no real answer, but then those same people still don't want it
1
u/ParrishThePoet 7h ago
Not playing this game and of course that means not spending a cent until there is a role queue.
I hate overwatch. But I play it because there is a role queue and I can actually have fun in the category of hero I want.
1
u/Competitive_Fox5079 53m ago
Finally somepne with a brain that actually says the very fucking obvious truth these degenerates ppl still defending fucking open queue
1
u/Leonida_Gator 7h ago
Role Queue would give consistent 2 2 2 at the expense of load times and hybrid role heros. It would fundamentally not fix any of the issues with the game.
The reason we have 5 dps every game is because they have absolutely STUFFED the game with DPS + gave them 10x the carry potential of Tanks and Supports.
1
u/Its1amrightnow 5h ago
In qp btw
1
u/Brief-Raspberry-6327 2h ago
Not 5 but I’ve had to solo rank so many games in ranked. ATP I should refuse. Why should my fun be beneath someone else’s? I had people in my games play dps to negative when I’m hugely positive on solo tank when you have lord magnand Emma. Fuck them specifically.
1
u/MrOrange_63 2h ago
The issue with that is we know the devs won't tone down the amount of dps in this game. Last year we legit 4 tanks, Dps: 5, Support: 3.
And i know the year isn't over but with October not having a hero it only leaves the possibility of Nov and Dec having a hero when this year we've had 3 tanks and supports, and then 5 dps, this is also including Deadpool who fills all the roles.
So far in the game the amount of characters in the roles are 28 dps, 15 tanks, 13 supports. For the other two roles to even both get to 20 at least for all it would take 8 months of characters, but we all know a few dps will be put in there.

u/TyStax44 14h ago
If you’re speaking about quick play then just do what you want. At the end of the day, having fun is the main point of playing. It’s your life, don’t let other people tell you how to live it. 213 or even 231 comps work, very rarely 132 or 141 will as well. It just depends on whether everyone can play together successfully.
If you’re speaking in comp, my advice is still generally the same but I understand the issue a lot more. Idk if you came from Overwatch, played a little bit, or just heard about RQ in passing. It went the same way with that game as well. Rivals is just experiencing a bit of a sped up version of that except it’s altogether what OW went through in stages. I can’t truly say whether RQ will ever come to the game when I previously said to give it time. I think they’re prioritizing quick match ups so they most likely wont consider it until it starts affecting their profit
1
u/IndependenceIcy9626 11h ago
231 as in 2 tanks 3 dps 1 support? That might work in bot matches, but anything without 2 supports gets rolled by real people.
1
u/TyStax44 11h ago
Not all of the time, but this is why that distinction was made within the argument for QP. Rivals has some characters that are strong enough heal wise to be feasible for a solo support. It definitely is more of a healbot experience, that’s a given. It still has the potential to work. Jubilee and Gambit are a couple that have that potential.
I do want to be clear though, I’m by no means recommending this. Just saying it matters more about how the teams respond with each other in events of unbalanced comps. I agree with you that players of adequate skill wouldn’t lose to this but being able to work with your team well is also a part of that skill, so I’m also realizing how things can turn out positively even from a “negative” situation such as having only 1 supp

Imagine not being able to swap strange because you are locked to strat or duelist. Or not able to get back fast to touch point on venom or spider-man because you are locked to strategist. Role queue sounds like a terrible idea.
4
u/NatashaDeLaWhore 5h ago
sounds like both of your issues would be resolved by locking tank in role queue…
-2
u/Ok_Language1273 5h ago
The person who dies 1st is supposed to tp what are we talking about
2
u/androodle2004 4h ago
First tank to die swaps. It would lessen the strange portals in overtime which is a good thing imo
0
u/RadishAvailable6214 3h ago
Both of these reasons just further prove why there should be role queue
1
u/FunNo1459 5h ago
Do you think the tank player or the dps player would be too stupid to do these things this isnt a single player game, you dont have to do everything.
-2
u/alexweirdmouth 14h ago
From my understanding, the main problem with role queue would be the waiting time for matches would be far longer, which becomes a big problem for competitive since it can already have long queue times.
Personally speaking, while uneven team comps are annoying, especially 3 dps, it doesn’t automatically mean a loss. It’s probably less fun, but a definite outcome.
There is also the fact that if there is never an incentive to switch roles, people are more like to never understand other roles, how they contribute and the struggles they face. Which will probably cause more problems.
Role queue has upsides, but also downsides, and preferably, we want more upsides than downsides for any solution to any problem with the game.
2
1
u/embracing_ebony 13h ago
I mean, anything and everything has upsides and downsides. That's just life. Also, you can have both open and role queue. It literally doesn't have to be either or.
3 dps sucks to tank and especially to heal for, because its all on them to carry the role. It's inherently a selfish thing to do, in a team-based game. It is less fun. Especially for supports/tanks, or flex mains, who'd like to pick dps every once in a while, but straight up can't because they'll statistically just be losing right out the gate, especially if the opposing team has a 222 team comp. Meanwhile instalock dps mains just keep doing wtf they want without regard to the team.
It's always dps mains, btw, that are the subject of these convos, no regard for tank/support/flex mains who would like to do other things. No one ever regards their experience, both at team selection and in game play, having to do the work of 2 people. They're expected to play twice as hard, more if the dps isn't killing the other team, tanking is miserable into multiple dps if you're solo, if you're solo support and get dove it's ggs. It's awful, not even factoring in toxic players.
1
u/alexweirdmouth 13h ago
I should explain
I am support and tank main, who is shit at dps.
I do completely understand the frustrations of 3 dps insta lock. If I made a drinking game about it, i would die of alcohol poisoning, and I’m irish. And your point about role queue being opt in isn’t something I considered, and definitely shifts my opinion.
The goal of my post, was to say that role queue isn’t a magic solution and has issues. There are plenty of other ideas that could fix this problem and maybe we should give those ideas a chance. But this is just my opinion and if you disagree that’s completely fair, I’m not a game designer or anything close to it.
1
u/f1uttr 12h ago
I don’t really care about “uneven team comps” the problem with no role q is that in (higher elo where people are more specialised in a role and u can’t just fill at the same level) u will be forced off your main role onto other things or your teammates will. If the other team gets 2 celestial tank mains, 2 celestial DPS, and 2 celestial supports and you get 3 celestial tanks 1 celestial support and 2 celestial DPS, someone is going to be off their role where chances are they are not at the same level. Your team is just automatically at a disadvantage because of the match making. I have gotten games in C1 where I have 2 tanks and 4 support players, it’s just an auto loss because we have 2 off role players against people who aren’t really off role on the other team.
It just makes it feel random. They need to at least add a preference or something to fix it, I can’t even Q with another support player because chances are I’ll get a random who plays support so someone will have to flex etc.
They could even add like 3 roleq slots and 3 flex, where 3/6 people are not able to change roles but the other 3 can, that way u can get 3 DPS, 3 tank or whatever but u always get at least 1 person who wants to play a specific role and Qed for it
1
u/IndependenceIcy9626 11h ago
The game shouldn’t stop itself from improving for 99% of the playerbase just because the top 1% complain about queue times.
To some extent I think it’s important to balance around the best players because they’re playing optimal, but there’s so many of them on forums who think the whole game should revolve around them just because they’re good at it. Celestial and above queue times shouldn’t even really be a consideration in the role queue debate. 1% of the playerbase shouldn’t dictate what happens for the other 99%
0
u/AssociationDue3077 13h ago
I hate role que, I just started playing different games. I'll play Rivals when it gets good again rather than suffer playing a game I hate playing. And yes, it kind of pains me, I had 2000 hours total, 250 on my most played, I did use to no life this game. But no improvements no play, because I play for fun.
0
u/coco_chanel_slay 12h ago
I mean we won triple supports triple dps against 2 2 2, yes it’s just gold rank but still…
0
u/AlphaWolf3211 12h ago
It is annoying when the comp makes no sense but its also really satisfying when the no sense comp actually works
0
u/Ok_Friendship6476 12h ago
I do not have this issue in my rank. Sometimes no second tank, but always 2 healers.
0
u/ManBallLover 12h ago
Proof dps mains are killing the game, not supports like they try to make u think
0
u/LoganExtreme7th 11h ago
My solution for you... Be selfish, you pick the character first, you keep it, if you guys lose it won't be your fault
Also, try competitive, people usually respect a little more there, and don't care if you lose, just try your best, you ain't aiming for E-Sports (not with a bunch of randoms at least)
0
u/Little-Protection484 11h ago
A hero shooter could be built around no role queue its not necessary for the genre but marvel rivals just didn't succeed imo characters are too polarizing and healers are a little too needed for proper changes from standard 2 2 2 to work, not that it's a bad thing I like how some of the characters actually feel like a role on a team but others don't, but I play the game super casually so its best take my opinion for a grain of salt
0
u/SwiftArgeiphontes 7h ago
I dont know why they dont make a quick play option. then people wanting to play certain will have their chance
0
u/Ok_Macaron_7263 4h ago
Learn to force pick a dps or just play casual and insta-lock dps
If someone point fingers, just say you've been using forced strats for multiple games for too long. Period
0
u/MrOrange_63 2h ago
I know people shut down the idea of role queue pretty quickly but like if the devs really think they could come up with a good way to make it. Like making it an option along with open queue so that people who are sick of having 5 dps can actually be happy.
And the other issue of it restricting players to just one role, the devs can just have a switching system where players can agree to switch their roles with each other to fix that.
0
u/Rockybroo_YT 2h ago
If you want to play dps, just play dps. Why do you care so much about team comp
1
u/Jandersite 2h ago
You tend to lose if you lack tanks and supports
-1
u/Rockybroo_YT 2h ago edited 1h ago
- it’s not that often once you’ve properly committed to the role. Right now the matchmaker is just assuming you’re a strat o
r a tank
- even when it does happen, it should not mean you perform terrible. There’s going to bebe countless times you have useless tanks or supports anyways
- even if you lose, you got to play your character, you can consider a learning experience
Team comp is such a non issue, the more you play dps you’ll find so much more bs that eventually you’ll not even be concerned about it. You should be focused on your own gameplay anyways.
1
u/Jandersite 2h ago
Go try it to climb to a high rank and never have anyone on your team play tank/support then, if your team doesnt matter in the team game go show me
0
u/Rockybroo_YT 1h ago
There’s literally OAA games with solo support, still wins.
And like 3 months into the game (as a first hero shooter) I could make it to GM easily as an otp. It helps you improve quicker which unironically makes it easier.
I’m not saying it’s not a disadvantage but if you’re so obsessed with winning maybe you shouldn’t pick dps, most of the meta ones will be banned and the rest are situational so you’ll have to learn multiple - that means you’re going to lose a lot while learning them.
1
u/Brief-Raspberry-6327 1h ago
All your comment is bullshit let’s be honest.
1: you are an OTP. Yes it makes you improve faster, but that’s only on 1 character. When u get people with the trackers it’s over. Someone takes your character? It’s over. You are the person nobody wants on their team. Double if you are dps otp
2: ‘oaa games with solo support, still wins. That’s the worst argument I’ve seen. Look at celestial+ data for rivals comps, as you can see 2-3-1 is the highest solo support with a 31% win rate. By your logic you can make an argument for 6 dps to win a game. Low chance but it could happen.
3: unlike your theory of losing while learning. There are ways to learn. Qp, practise vs ai, even going into the rage and simulating against bots can be effective for training aim. Thats what I did for Emma this season when she fits in.

Role queue bad. Destroys flexibility which is one of the few reasons i play rivals instead of something else. I want to be able to swap my comp if its not working.
-3
u/AcceptableEgg5741 14h ago
Role queue would slow the matchamaking down significantly, the devs dont want that
3
u/Tinyrick88 14h ago
The matchmaking is horrible because it prioritizes speed over match quality.
1
u/AcceptableEgg5741 10h ago
With Speed when you lose you can just jump in again
Imagine having to wait 10 minutes for a match , getting stomped and then having to wait again
1
u/Tinyrick88 9h ago
You don’t wait 10 minutes in Overwatch. Try actually a game first before talking. Role queue would add at most a minute to the majority of players’ matchmaking times.
3
u/SaltyNorth8062 14h ago
It would slow it "significantly" for dps players, slightly for supports, and be unchanged for tanks. I see little issue. If your queue times are too long sounds like it's time to flex bucko.
1
u/AcceptableEgg5741 10h ago
You dont know that for sure, you can get 5+ minutes of queue in overwatch for the other roles, we cant be sure of what the effect would be but i think its almost guaranteed that getting into matches would slow down

No worries man, mistakes happen🫶

u/hotshotXIII13 13h ago
Preciate the understanding, I don't like the thought of role que, and I hate playing a game wanting to be DPS but have the "throw" the game because no one else will play tank or sup. That is a problem netease can fix partially because as a tank main (solo tank 75% of games, I could not get any games on Dino when he released because everyone wanted to play him. Funner tanks and supports will help. But I don't like the thought of role que because it limits the team comps and individually of games. Reworking all supports to fit in a 2 2 2 isn't good because they can't make them different enough the pure healing will make some dead.
1
u/Jandersite 13h ago
Yeah i understand preference, imo role queue would solve like 20 issues the game has but i understand being hesitant
1
u/hotshotXIII13 13h ago
Fair. It can help. But it would make the game more linear and slow que times. Trade off for cleaner games sure. Just depends on what you want, but idk if rivals will ever do it because the mixed feelings twords it. OW got heated when the decided to do it. And that was because the never could get GOATS meta under control.
3
u/xDexteriti 14h ago
You clearly missed the point of this post. OP is not saying they instalock third dps, they’re saying sometimes they would LIKE to play dps and it’s just literally never an option because other people are too selfish to swap.
0
u/hotshotXIII13 13h ago
Literally same problem i have. I just play what the team needs to win (as a tank main who play support too) or play whatever i want and accept the outcome. It's not worth killing half the supports to make you feel better about playing DPS.
2
u/Most-Bench6465 14h ago
People love saying dumb shit so they can strawman genuine criticism.
0
u/hotshotXIII13 13h ago
This wasn't just criticizing, this was fundamentally changing the game because you don't like trip support.
1
u/Most-Bench6465 11h ago
Huh? There’s only two instances of trip support look at all the other instances of 3dps even 1 4dps
-1
u/Ok-Working-2711 12h ago
I REALLY dont wanna be locked to a role of course people look at the solution and never the problem with role que and the problem is being locked to a role you que support youre locked to support so no role swapping

u/Zavitron 15h ago
I think role restrictions would help. Idk about role queue. The characters just aren't designed around it.the game is great, its the people behind the game making weird decisions. I think one really good decision could honestly make the game infinitely better
11
u/YogurtclosetFit9375 14h ago
Role restrictions is just a soft version of role que but its people fighting to have a role. All I see from this is people throwing more because they cant play dps or something.
-3
u/Zavitron 14h ago
People are gonna get angry if you nerf their mains. We need a full support and dps overhaul cause theres too much shit going on, and almost every support is a healbot. Changing this would set fires everywhere, but a role queue would also set fires everywhere. No matter what there's going to be outrage. If they fixed that, and actually punished blatant throwing the game would be much better imo
4
u/Jandersite 14h ago
I feel like the balance idea is really simple, with role queue in mind they can properly balance heroes who struggle with/without it
Triple support merchants can avoid being broken, same with tanks who thrive in triple
And at the same time people who would thrive a bit too much can be tuned down like Wolve or Dino

35
u/JSmarag 14h ago
the game algorithm is putting you in support jail you need to be as selfish as these dps instalocks and play as you dps of choice
