Since the Mariners are unfortunately out, who else is cheering for the Seattle Pilots / Milwaukee Brewers now?
The Dodgers payroll is more than the remaining 3 playoff teams combined, so at the very least I'd like to see them get eliminated. Who are you cheering for and why?

u/iguessineedanaltnow 3d ago
Well I WAS cheering for the White Sox because Murakami is my favourite player in the league right now. Then they blew a 2-0 series lead.

Anyone but Dodgers

Last year it was a bit harder to make this declaration when they were playing the Jays. This year it's REALLY REALLY easy to make this declaration. If MKE takes the series I'll just be rooting for a long fun World Series. If Dodgers take it you better believe I'm rooting AL.

I really hate the Dodgers, so I hope they lose. Don’t really care who wins as long as it isn’t them

u/PhDPepper5 3d ago
Brewers! Visited Milwaukee in August and went to the series where we lost one game 22-0. The fans were so nice to my sister and me. One guy even bought us a little Bernie stuffy as souvenir. Also the brew buses are kick ass.

u/Former-Sea-8070 3d ago
I just want a Brewers / Rays world series. From there, I'm indifferent. Really like both those teams.

I'm still not over them taking the pilots from us

You're too young to remember the hate between the teams prior to the move to the NL. The year you were born I was at the game for this fight and it was unbelievable. An actual FIGHT, not just standing around chirping at each other.

u/SpaceForceAwakens 3d ago
Yeah even though they beat us the fuck up this year they’re old Seattle so I’m for them.
5
u/BigAdministration368 3d ago
Agreed...though it has nothing to do with them being the Seattle Pilots for one season before i was born

At this point, I just want to see good October baseball. Game 7s, even matchups, pitching duals, aggressive small ball, highlight real defense, the stuff that gets real tight when everything's on the line. I just hope to be entertained. Also I hope to see skubal get blown to pieces while the dodgers implode, but I'm not holding my breath.

u/jacobferry7 3d ago
Bob Uecker is one of my favorite sports personalities of all time. I’m cheering for the Brewers for that reason if nothing else.
Also, the Brewers are the model of what the Mariners should strive to be. So…watch and learn.

u/NaysayerMightKnow 3d ago
I’m rooting for them but mostly because legendary Beaver baseball coach, Pat Casey, is a consultant

Dodgers, I want to watch the league burn.

u/Voltage_Atl 3d ago
At this point I want a Rays Dodgers World Series and I want the Rays to get their dues.
It’d almost be a reverse of the 2003 World Series.
The Dodgers are the Yankees of the late 90s-early 2000s

Brewers vs Rays is my dream WS. The two most skilled analytics teams going toe to toe. Not even being facetious, I’d love to see it.
0
u/Former-Sea-8070 3d ago
I don't think "analytics" when thinking about the Brewers. Their offense places a ton of value in things that analytics often disregards these days. Bauers is like their only TTO player. Everyone else is a bat-to-ball, tough at-bat monster.
1
u/Legitimate-Rate5819 3d ago
True to say they favor an approach born out of the pre-analytics, pre-steroid era, but their org does emphasize the “unsexy” numbers so their analytics department deserves praise for going after that type of player.

They sacrifice bunted twice last night. First one led to a run when the next batter singled.

It would make me really happy if Ben Williamson could get a ring with Tampa, but with all the salary cap talk it would be really funny if the world series ended with the lowest payroll team in baseball sweeping the highest payroll team in baseball.

u/Good_Nyborg We got the funk, we got the funk 3d ago
Cheering for Brewers too. With ChiSox eliminated (Yay!), we're guaranteed a smaller market team from the AL for the World Series, now we just need the Brewers to win to make sure there's also one from the NL.

Pilots was an objectively bad situation in an old minor league stadium. MLB promised to make it up to Seattle if they built a stadium. Within 7 years they followed through. Also Milwaukee deserves a team from a business standpoint and Okc does not.
No reason to hold a grudge.

u/rdubmu 3d ago
Now we are stuck with the mariners

u/Fit_Leather9366 Turn Ahead the Clock 3d ago

I thought that was only after a city of Seattle successful lawsuit?

Sorry, a stolen team. Eff the Brewer and Bud Selig.

u/Thumbszilla 3d ago
What? Selig saved the franchise out of bankruptcy. The Pilots couldn't even pay their players and staff which were days away from all being granted immediate free agency due to missed paychecks.

u/CosmiTourist 3d ago
Honestly, at this point, anybody playing the Dodgers. Watching their payroll dwarf the rest of the remaining field just makes it impossible not to root for chaos. Whoever plays them gets my temporary allegiance.

u/cpz_77 3d ago
Fuck the brewers but I’m from Minnesota so I hate anything Wisconsin.
8
u/Thumbszilla 3d ago
I'm sorry to hear that... being from Minnesota that is

u/cpz_77 3d ago
What’s your problem with Minnesota?
Sorry to hear you jumped on the bandwagon of the clown crew in Milwaukee, hope the Dodgers steamroll them. Maybe they can hope their roof gets in the way of another HR.

I’m rooting for the guardians or rays or dodgers to win. Don’t care at all for those fucks in Milwaukee who stole our city’s team. I’d rather watch the dodgers win every year for the rest of my life than see Milwaukee get a ring

Yeah - but also, I went to college in Milwaukee (back when the Brewers were AL, so I could usually catch a Mariners game late each spring semester and early each fall semester). And my late mother’s side of the family is from Wisconsin, so it’s not hard for me to pull for their teams … when it’s not hurting a Seattle team 😉

u/roostercacciatore 3d ago
I had a family connection to the Pilots and would have gone to work with them if they had stayed.
I recognized that they were doomed and rooted for the Brewers for years. Robin Yount and Paul Molitor were my favorite players and are exactly the type of players I wish the Mariners would sign.
In the expansion draft they selected Lou Pinella but apparently didn’t like him and traded him away. Big mistake.
Dewey Soriano had been a brilliant general manager for the Rainiers and I had high expectations for what he could do with the Pilots but he brought in an executive from the Angels who was useless.

The rest of my family are Dodgers fans (except for one Blue Jay fan), so I'll root alongside them. But I'm pretty happy with any of the remaining teams winning. I would feel a little bad for Tampa Bay if Cleveland goes to WS over them. I feel like Tampa has worked to be the best AL team and they were head and shoulders above the rest of the league this year.
Brewers - Rays would be a fun WS

Never, never, never will I root for the Brewers. I was 14 years old when they left Seattle after one season. I am a fourth generation native born Washingtonian. I will never root for a team that was stolen from us. Lose Brewers lose! (Are you also rooting for OKC Thunder?)

One time at T Mobile Park the Mariners were getting their ass beat and a Brewers fan decked out in full Brewers garb was rooting HARD for the M's to lose... So no, fuck the Brewers specifically to spite that one person.
Edit: We weren't even playing the Brewers
