In honor of Rick Rizzs' last season in the broadcast booth, please consider donating to Toys For Kids. Oh no! All our players are shittier because they didn't get to train!

73

u/Sdog1981 7d ago

It would be funny if they had the best season of their careers because they did not deal with the staff all offseason

It would be so Mariners for us to finally win it all in a jank, lockout-derailed, season

I’d take it though. I’m that desperate

My first MLB game was as an 8 year old in the Kingdome in 1984.

I am Misery. Born and bred from the darkness of the bottom of the AL West. I have scars upon scars, wounds upon wounds, Mariners upon Mariners.

Hello fellow 50th seasoner lol. I can’t remember when my first game was or when the Mariners entered my consciousness, they’ve just always been there.

I didn't see the light until I was already a man, by then it was nothing to me but blinding.

Just let us play In the world series

At least when they’re locked out the Mariners can’t hurt us

Mariner: challenge accepted

16

u/MindForeverWandering 7d ago

So, does the podcast become Locked Out Mariners?

8

u/aiiye 7d ago

Don’t worry, I’ll still appear on your screen every night looking confused and out of my element saying “tough one tonight” “just gotta make the most of opportunities” “get back to work” “just a really tough one tonight” and other vague platitudes and Wilson-isms.

u/Stuckinaboxxx 7d ago

They will probably come back better without our coaching staff fucking them up

17

u/Fit_Leather9366 Turn Ahead the Clock 7d ago

Technically there is no coaching staff ATM

u/Careless-Internet-63 7d ago

Hold up, the website is going to be down?

Let’s hope we get a dodger loss to tide us over. The yankees already did their part. End the evil empires and make baseball worth watching!

6

u/NachoPichu 7d ago

So, same as last lockout a couple years ago?

17

u/Science_oven 7d ago

I hope they ban Stanton from owning the team once they come back

7

u/BackwerdsMan 6d ago

He could vanish into thin air and nothing would change with the rest of the ownership.

1

u/Science_oven 6d ago

keep those people locked out as well. please and thank you.

1

u/pbebbs3 6d ago

LOCK OUT STANTON, WE OWN THE STADIUM

0

u/Science_oven 6d ago

change the locks!!!!

3

u/Hopsblues 7d ago

Sounds like the lockout will happen, question is, can they come to an agreement. They are pretty far apart at the moment on the future desired direction of the league. I wouldn't be surprised if Spring training is delayed to start.

2

u/iloveurarse ‏‏‎ ‎ 6d ago

I wouldn't be surprised if the WS is canceled next year. Seen it once before.

1

u/Hopsblues 6d ago

That's a long ways away, but spring training and opening day are the first "deadlines".

1

u/lastminutealways larry bernandez for HOF 6d ago

They pulled one off after a 60 game season not too long ago, so hopefully it doesn’t come down to cancelling. It did serious damage the last time.

u/Proshop_Charlie 5h ago

You heard this a lot with the last NFL CBA and you can see that MLB is taking notes.

For those who were unaware, the team union reps told their members to vote no on the proposal. However all the rookie contract and practice squad players voted for it. They made the deal better for them then the Patrick Mahomes etc.

You see that already now with taking a year off arbitration. The raising of the salary floor. They are targeting the players that will only be in the league for a few years instead of the Ohtani's and Judges, etc.

Once there is an actual vote you'll really see how close the sides are.

8

u/phantom_metallic 7d ago

That sounds like the type of plan Rob Manfred would come up with.

9

u/AnnihilatedTyro ‎ RELEASE THE MOOSEN! 7d ago

He's been trying to break the player's union since '94 and failed every time. I'm sure he has a thousand monstrously evil plans for what he'd do if he ever succeeded.

2

u/MindForeverWandering 7d ago

The reserve clause is back, baby!

5

u/xMrLink ‏‏‎ ‎My Depression Goes as the M's Don't 7d ago

We don’t even have a coaching staff to talk to lol

3

u/ItalicsWhore 7d ago

So this actually levels the playing field for us

2

u/PrinceOfPuddles ‏‏‎ ‎ 6d ago

Is this that league parity everyone was talking about?

3

u/Aconductor2 6d ago

Baseball needs a salary cap, like the NFL Let's start the cap at 100 dollars a team. Okay, maybe a bit more.

4

u/yr- 6d ago

Do you want your workplace to have a salary cap? Why side with billionaires over millionaires?

2

u/Initial-Calendar6468 ‏‏‎ ‎Poopoo Team Enjoyer 5d ago

I want a league with parity. Pretty simple. Billionaires are going to billionaire. You can hate them all you like, they will just wipe your tears with stacks of money. For real parity we need a floor. It is just as important, so the lesser billionaires, billionaire a little harder. These players play a child's game. They do just fine and will continue to do fine with a cap and floor.

u/samwyatta17 60 Dumps! 4d ago edited 4d ago

Good thing the Brewers, White Sox, Guardians, and Tampa Bay are all in the bottom half of payroll. Congratulations, you have parity!

But seriously, compared to other major sports, having a repeat World Series Champion is way rarer than a Superbowl or NBA Finals repeat champion. It's only happened twice in my life now.

Remember when Golden State and Cleveland were in the NBA Finals 4 years in a row? That was with a salary cap.

1

u/Initial-Calendar6468 ‏‏‎ ‎Poopoo Team Enjoyer 3d ago

Don't fucking care.  Cap and floor.  Make the Mariners pony up and the Dodgers spend less.

1

u/samwyatta17 60 Dumps! 2d ago

I don't think that will achieve league parity. As I mentioned, other sports have caps and have a greater tendency for Dynastic teams.

You are, of course, free to have a different opinion.

1

u/Proshop_Charlie 5h ago

You don't think the is parity in the NFL or NBA?

1

u/philocity 6d ago

A hundred dollars is like a lot of money. 10 seems more reasonable. You could almost buy a sandwich with that

1

u/Aconductor2 6d ago

You're right, we need players who play the game for fun.

1

u/asteriskmos Naylz Sin Bin 7d ago

Well at least they can give out Christmas presents early!

1

u/JPGentry 7d ago

What if, ok hear me out, what if they fired all the coaches so they could communicate with the players during the lookout? Huh?

1

u/ReallyLetsGoBrandon 6d ago

Well if the knotheads at the Athletic say it, it must be true. However I won't subscribe to read the article.

u/Scubahill 7d ago

So everyone has to wear dedicated running shoes to the gym?

What a joke. What theater. Incredible performance. Pretending somehow that MLB is in charge is so amusing. If the players strike the owners and mlb are fucked.
