Are there any local softball fields that you don’t have to rent/reserve for just some hitting practice for me and my daughter? Just some family fun.

I have a few pairs of selvedge jeans that came with much longer legs than I need. I am looking for a tailor who does chain-stitched hems, preferably in the West Cobb area.

I have an anxious 17 year old daughter who has high functioning autism. She's very smart and capable but gets overwhelmed easily and is anxious about driving. She had 3 lessons at A-1 driving and it was a horrible experience. The instructor was impatient and very rude. This is a life skill that is imperative for her to learn and while my husband has worked with her a little, I believe she will do better with a professional who is patient. We're in the Mableton/Austell area but im open to surrounding areas for someone whom she will benefit from. Thank you.

I sat through Monday’s city council work session last night and figured I’d share what happened with the data center ordinance, since I don’t think a lot of people know where this stands. There is a video on mariettaga.gov of the entire work session.
TLDR: some of council wants to vote on an ordinance in November. That’s about four weeks from now. There haven’t been any public input sessions, residents haven’t seen a draft or even an outline, and the Georgia Tech guy who was leading the whole process has unfortunately and unexpectedly passed away.
Monday night the ordinance got about 13 minutes of discussion. Sidewalks got about 49. I like sidewalks fine, but come on.
Two council members want to pass an ordinance in November. Two want to extend the moratorium instead. City Attorney Haney confirmed extending it is an option, so it’s not like their hands are tied.
Long version: Back in August, Georgia Tech’s Center for Economic Development Research sent the city a (VERY basic) proposal to build the ordinance. It was roughly seven months of work (September through March) with three public sessions. The first was supposed to be a Data Centers 101 with an expert panel on power, water and zoning. The second was for answering whatever questions residents raised. The third was presenting the draft ordinance, along with a document showing which section addressed each concern people brought up. Cost was around $52,600.
Alan Durham was leading that for Georgia Tech, and he has since unfortunately passed away. Tech hasn’t sent a new proposal as of last night although one is allegedly still coming. None of those sessions ever happened. The closest thing to them was the Gaddis town hall which, for those who were there- didn't count. 95% of the time was spent hearing from city management, and direct data center questions were not answered. I don't fault him for that directly- The town hall was held in August, right after the Powers rezone passed. There wasn't enough time between the two events to address the ordinance effectively. Additionally, Gaddis was able to get me a copy of the GT proposal and that was fantastic information that should have been published by the city. Dead horses, I just keep beating.
Tech’s own proposal warned that without a real ordinance, the city ends up “negotiating standards on a project-by-project basis, under time pressure, and without a structured opportunity for resident input.” That was an economic development team saying that, not a bunch of anti-data center folks. And it’s pretty much exactly what a November vote looks like.
Right now the only rule on the books that really applies is the noise ordinance, which maxes out at $1,000 a day in fines. For a data center that’s pocket change. Nothing I’ve seen published about the new ordinance mentions penalties at all. Actually, to be clear- the only thing I've actually seen published was by the MDJ and was... sparse. At best.
As the Bells Ferry site is already rezoned- having a solid ordinance in place before the next developer comes along, before vesting, matters. The Mayor has frequently brought up questions as to how they can prevent Bells Ferry from moving forward. Tumlin gave MDJ a quote that Bells wouldn't work (I'm paraphrasing, but it wouldn't work). In Georgia, rezoning follows the land- So, unless there's a high and tight ordinance in place, it's going to be a brawl.
The next council meeting is TOMOROW- Wednesday 10/14/26 at 7pm at Marietta City Hall. You can sign up for public comment or just show up, because a full room matters. You can also email your council member ( https://www.mariettaga.gov/596/City-Council, click your member, you'll get the email address) and ask them to extend the moratorium and hold public sessions before anything gets drafted and voted on. I aim to be on public comment tomorrow night.
Happy to answer questions. I’ve been following this since the Powers Ferry rezoning and have read more city documents than is healthy. I'm also hot buttered pissed that certain council members are blatantly attempting to push a weak, fast ordinance over one that is good for Marietta but I won't publicly speculate on why. I encourage you to watch last nights Work Session online beginning at minute 28 and draw your own conclusions.
While I'm here, Councilwoman Richardson also brought up Marietta sponsoring 500 or so wreaths for the Marietta Wreaths Across America at the National Cemetery. Each wreath is $17. Every year, the number of wreaths is significantly less than the number of graves. As it stands, there are 18,846 veteran graves and 1908 wreaths with committed sponsors. The 500 from the tourism budget still equates to a shortage of 16,438 wreaths. I just sponsored a wreath- Maybe you can too. Sponsor here: https://www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/pages/14805/Overview/?relatedId=0
Links in the comments.
*UPDATE EDIT*- Advertising the special permit passed on consent. That means it's voted on in 4 weeks for the special use permit. Several council members did generously speak with me after the meeting and assured me that a moratorium extension is coming along with pushing for the GT proposal once we see it and town halls. Stay tuned. You can find the video here: https://marietta.granicus.com/player/clip/3860.

Marietta Power recently marked a milestone in its grid renewal and modernization project during a visit by a U.S. Department of Energy official.
The city says the project includes new SCADA-controlled switching equipment intended to support the local electricity network.
Modernizing utility infrastructure is not always visible to residents, but reliability becomes especially important during severe weather and unexpected outages.
Have you noticed improvements in power reliability in Marietta over the past few years? What utility upgrades would you most like the city to prioritize?

Please don’t bring your dog inside the coffee shop. I get that you think it is well behaved. It isn’t. It’s disruptive and off putting. At minimum, if it starts barking please leave. I get that you are embarrassed (and you should be) but get over it and don’t bring your pet to a public setting. Just because you like your dog doesn’t mean the other patrons should be subjected to your lapse in judgement.

I am looking for someone to come and take care of my yard probably once every two or three weeks. It’s a fairly small yard and would mainly just need mowing, edging, blowing leaves, and maybe picking up sticks. Does anyone have recommendations?

Are there any walking trails or parks I can walk in that are open? Every time I find one I feel unsafe. I last went to the one in downtown powder springs it felt like I was going to be dragged into some bushes and murdered. I'm usually alone. I like Piedmont in Atlanta but it's so far away.

I'm moving to East Cobb from Decatur, where there is an active contra dancing club that meets on Friday evenings.
Is there anything similar in the Marietta area?
I'm open to contra dancing or English country dancing--basically, Pride & Prejudice country ball dancing!

Okay, this is probably a very specific/odd request, but I have a vision and I’m hoping someone can help me!
Does anyone know of any trees with sturdy, low-hanging branches that you could safely sit on for photos? Ideally branch that’s not super high off the ground — something we could reasonably get onto with a small step stool rather than actually climbing a tree.
I’m planning a pregnancy announcement and my vision is basically a “______ & _______ sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G…” theme...first comes love, then comes marriage, then comes baby in the baby carriage, you get it, right?
I know this is oddly specific lol, but if you’ve seen a tree like this somewhere around here, PLEASE tell me where!

This is a super long shot request. On Saturday 9/26 I met a guy named Randy in Port Angeles Washington, and I am trying to get in touch with him. When I said I was from Georgia, he said he had a friend who lives in Marietta. So I am hoping that his friend will see this post and let Randy know about it so I can get in touch with him.
Randy is tall, dark curly hair, maybe 30ish, and drives a light colored truck with a popup tent camper on the back. He had been camping all the way up in Alaska but was on his way back when my friend and I met him on a hike near Port Angeles WA. Then we ran into him again that night in town and hung out for a couple hours. I really want to get in touch with him because he was looking for a career change and a unique position is opening up at my company that I think might be a perfect fit for him. Maybe it was fate we ran into him twice and I was just too dumb to realize it at the time. So Randy’s friend, if you see this post please let Randy know!

Has anyone else noticed the Whitlock Ave road work yet? Is it actually making your commute worse, or has the nighttime schedule helped?

Meet FCAS foster Amy! 💖 This 7yo, 60lb (looks smaller, she’s muscular!) shepherd mix girl is certified BFF material! 👯♀️ She’s been our easiest foster thus far and has been such a polite, happy houseguest. She’s incredibly affectionate, will lean in for hugs, and loves to stand and put her paws on your shoulders if you’re seated eye level with her. 🥹 She makes the cutest little grunting noises when she snuggles and her head tilt game is STRONG! 😆
She may technically be a senior (suspect she may be a bit younger), but she’s still got plenty of pep in her step! She’s super playful, loves fetch, and has a blast running around the yard and playing with our resident Shepsky. 🐾 She also settles quickly, sleeps through the night, LOVES to cuddle, and doesn’t show signs of separation anxiety (only short-lived protest whines and quickly gives up 😆). All in all, 10/10 good girl! 🥰
✅ Potty trained - no accidents! 🤞🏽
✅ Leash trained - pulls, but manageable
✅ Crate trained
✅ Non-destructive
✅ Dog friendly
✅ Excellent temperament
✅ Knows commands - sit, stay, shake (both paws)
✅ Good recall
✅ Treat/food motivated
✅ Non-reactive (treats, toys, food, etc)
✅ Easily handled
✅ Easy to bathe/dry/brush/trim nails
✅ Spayed
✅ HW negative
Amy’s kryptonite? Cats. 😩 She’s shown pretty strong prey drive with our senior kitty, so she would do best in a feline-free home. 🐈⬛
We also don’t know how she does with kids, but I imagine the only issue might be that she can get excited and could accidentally cause little children to topple over. 😅
She has an Embark DNA test in progress, so curious to see what her breed mix is…👀
Amy is currently being fostered in Kennesaw, GA and available for adoption through LifeLine Animal Project Fulton County Animal Services. Click the link below to schedule a meet & greet with her or feel free to message me! 👋🏽
