Map out the cities matching all 4 great-circle compass angles
Its are three parts swipe for the solution I added it on a globe with the lines plotted. So if you wanna guess don't swipe immedeatly or you get spoilered. I am always confused by great-circle distances but really love the princip nehind it and always wish I would think more in a spherical way because I feel like it gives you an even deeper understanding of the globe and shows us that we are all closer to each other than we might think at first hand.
I made the game and my fav mode is Sphere mode cause it's the hardest and actually requires tow visualize the globe: https://visitwhale.com/city-angle check it out the daily challenge etc. is in 2d so its doable haha...

The Treviño enclave (Burgos province, Castile and Leon) has voted to seek a referendum for incorporation into Álava province, Basque Country.
This dispute has been a geographic bone of contention for almost 200 years, but has reignited since the granting of regional autonomy upon the return of Spanish democracy. Moreover, Basque-medium schools have been established in the enclave in recent decades, which receive no financial support from the Castile and Leon region, in contrast to the position in the Basque Country. Today's vote was approved by the municipal council, but won't be responded to until after next month's Spanish election:

we've mapped over 108,000 stolpersteine (holocaust memorial stones) across europe
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
for the past few years i've been working on a project to map stolpersteine across europe.
they're small brass memorial stones placed in sidewalks, usually outside the last freely chosen homes of people persecuted by the nazis.
we started with around 20,000 stones in our database back in 2023, and have since managed to grow that to over 108,000.
it's pretty incredible seeing just how widespread these stones are when you put them all together on a map.
you can explore the interactive version here: https://stolpersteine.app
still really cool to me that something i started working on in college has grown into this!

How far can you get in 8 hours of driving - Indian version ( Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai )
Inspired by u/Park__Explorer's "how far can you get in 8 hours of driving" maps (Europe, South America), so here is the Indian version: the 3 largest cities by population, Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru.
Every road is coloured by how long it takes to reach it by car, from light (close) to dark (about 8 hours). All three maps are at exactly the same scale, so you can compare the reach directly.
How it was made:
- Speeds are 75% of free-flow, with no live traffic. I went lower than a 10% reduction because tolls, trucks and town crossings slow real Indian highway driving. This will be too pessimistic on empty expressways and too optimistic in city cores.
- Only major roads are routed (motorway down to unclassified). Village lanes and residential streets are left out, so the dots you see are mostly settlements on these roads.
- OpenStreetMap coverage is thinner in some states, so some areas may look emptier than they really are.
Tech stack:
- Valhalla: routing / road expansion
- OpenStreetMap: road data (Geofabrik India extract)
- Node: data prep
- MapLibre GL JS + HTML canvas: rendering
- OpenFreeMap: basemap tiles
