Discussion Feeling disillusioned with the game (rant)

Post image

Disclaimer: This has nothing to do with Classic/founder's packs/Maple con. This is going to be a rant, mostly about vac pets and RNG

I'm just feeling like Maple doesn't respect the time I put into it and the magic is quickly going away.

I just feel so defeated when I spend hours bossing every week, only for a CPU to choose a number and go "haha, loser, I chose the wrong number so you don't get a pitched drop for the (xth) week in a row!"

I've played since 2006, and reboot from day 1, and actually literally never seen a source, ever on any character for example, and I run pretty high droprate (436%) and do hard vhilla every single week

but then when I actually do have something to improve and have been saving for weeks or months, and I try to starforce, only for a CPU to choose a number and go:

"haha loser, wrong number, all those weeks/months of saving are now flushed and you've wasted your time (or even worse, it booms and you've made backwards progression, you're now weaker than before)"

I know it is so much better than before. I was there when starforce fails reduced the count, and before safeguarding. But that doesn't mean the current version isn't above criticism. Safeguarding to 22 was a great choice to add. It doesn't take away the hollow sadness that comes from blowing your entire life savings and getting nowhere because RNG.

It's like a downward spiral when my vac pet dies and I gotta ask the question, do I really wanna "subscribe" for another month...

(this is theft by the way, most MMOs will have normal looting range and design the game around it, Nexon chose to make massive maps after Grandis came out and keep the shitty pets and charge 100 freakin dollars in order to have a normal farming experience)

And then there's the point of how Changseop said himself a vac pet is necessary to have a normal experience, and how Korea has universal CS so you can share pets, and now they have account-wide vac pet slots so it's even better

It just feels disrespectful how awful of a state our "global" version is for vac pets, when other countries with weaker currency need to spend a month of salary because their currency conversion is so terrible for a 99$ pet (still ridiculous even after "discounting" it with RP)

Then we get Frieren collab and they nerf the pull chance for collab vac pets by HALF from the one punch man. Like, what is going on bro?

It feels like Nexon KR only allows Inksell to exist purely because Maple Classic is his passion project and it's good PR in their eyes to have nostalgia IP version of the game, and they only allow GMS to exist purely as collab whale bait at this point.

The only thing that still feels "pure" and something I fully enjoy is farming frags and upgrading hexa skills, because they're permanent. No chance to boom, no RNG for upgrading, no chance to waste all your resources and be in the same spot. Just farming and getting stronger. THAT is what a long-term MMO is about to me.

That's really the last cornerstone still keeping me playing. But this event is so awful that I only login to press the winter check-in button then do 5 mins of sacred dailies and logout.

I'm not uninstalling, been with this game too long and love my character too much. I just wish it was better. I wish there weren't 1 trillion RNG systems and wish all the stuff we spend money on wasn't RNG like cosmetics and royal coupons, when those are direct choice in Korea.

and I wish half the Use tab items didn't randomly expire for no reason. Let me hoard resources! They've changed sides on this issue for certain things like the bossing pots, now do it for legion coupons, exp coupons, cubes, flames, mag pots, everything that matters.

Yap session over, how do you all feel?

The game doesn't respect our time and Inkwell doesn't respect us as players. I'll personally be taking a break from the game if Maplefest doesn't deliver, and I've never taken a break since Reboot first released.

Burnout is the highest I've ever seen it. The new SF system can eat through weeks of boss mules in minutes its demoralising, even if its objectively a good system, it doesn't FEEL good.

GMS players are spending a lot more time than other regions doing boss mules and making less from it. We should have much more valuable crystals right now while also only needing to sell 90, but GMS is having to sell 180 for less than what 90 would sell for if we had KMS prices for example.

Inkwell has completely neglected modern MapleStory for like 200 days at this point, while adding the most paid passes I have ever seen in a game, nerfing vac pet rates, stalling QoL, omitting changes that would benefit the game, all while spamming "FUND ME" on classic, and saying there is no need for an inkwell note because there is "nothing to say". It's honestly insulting when the game is making the most it ever has, and Nexon is putting the least amount of effort back into the game. It feels like we're just filling their pockets up to fund Classic, which a lot of Modern players aren't even interested in playing.

Profits over fun - at the expense of fun.

I can live with profits AND fun in a game, since we would both get something, but Nexon is too much for me. Left after CW ended and had my fun (made it through ekaling for first time) but anything beyond 280, 21 stars, or 3L is just a total waste of time to me at this point when they don't care about making a fun game and only care about sucking as much revenue as possible from their (often vulnerable) playerbase, who they keep hostage through predatory passes and artificially stunted progression by way of brutally tuned RNG gates (SF, cubing, fams, etc.)

2

u/LoadedFile 1d ago

Especially with the excessive paid passes, the question of "would i rather spend my money literally anywhere else". I recall doing the math where you could buy 32 gb of ram and a full price triple A game of your choice instead of p2w maple passes

u/Prylotus 2d ago

I did hear GMS just became profitable and that's probably almost exclusively due to Frieren bankrupting people trying to get these stupid pets or outfit sets

Do you have somewhere i can read on this? Really surprising GMS has been running even/at a loss.

Coppersan goes over it in more depth. I kind of sensationalized the headline, I need to apologize. I took that part out of the original post too. The actual facts from what I understand now are this:

Nexon America (includes more than Maple) only became profitable for the first time in 2025

Around the same time, Nexon said Maple Global grew to account for 35% of the entire Maplestory franchise revenue, largely due to the Go West initiative and other hyper-localization updates, according to the report

11

u/Phelesia 2d ago

In case someone else gets confused like I did at first, the term Global is used at times in Nexon reports not just for GMS (North America/Europe) but also for regions outside of Korea (Japan, China, Central and South America, Asian countries).

For example, Nexon mentions Global PC Growth through Hyperlocalization and in their chart for Hyperlocalization they have little clarifications like "Maplestory excluding Korea PC revenue" for the chart.

Doing a quick look, Q3 2025 financial report is around the same. Stating for Maplestory franchise, "40% of total revenue coming from outside of the primary market for the franchise, Korea." Revenue by region is also close (although that includes other IPs).

Watching the vid, he mentions North America and Europe's growth at first, then moves on to say Maplestory Global "grown to 35% of entire Maplestory Franchise". I was surprised thinking our GMS was that big but realized it's combined regions excluding Korea.

Also just my 2 cents, they like framing it as a hyperlocalization to show how Nexon is a "strong global IP" by catering to different regions in special ways which attracts people.

Although really a huge part of it is the increased monetization (passes) they have been doing. It's the same for Korea as well. To make up for cubes being removed, they revamped the business model to be around passes and people flocked to it so it was a successful move. There is growth in playerbase as well but they earned more mostly because they sold more things. But it just doesn't sound good to say "we added more monetization so we made more money."

1

u/Prylotus 2d ago

Thanks for the link.

Very interesting. Doing some research into nexon financials and nexon NA revenue history i would have liked (but i dont think nexon reports it) is the exact break down by region for which IP is generating what income. Would be cool to see if GMS has been profitable the whole time or is it mix of R&D stuff at nexon NA causing the loss for that long.

morale / sentiment on GMS is at all time lows, and it really stems from oinkwell and his lack of comms and the way things are run, basically what should be a copy and paste KMS patch turns into oinkwell as the gatekeeper picking and choosing which updates go through, then you get nerfed monetization (frieren rates, mythic ssbs, etc.) on top, and complete silence on any and all issues in the game. we can infer the reasons why, and assumptions will always be: assume the worst and incompetence / malice from his team.

no we don't need an inkwell note, nor do we need him specifically to communicate directly. get someone on the GMS team to handle front facing comms, or hire someone. recorded / livestreamed Q&A, roadmap, feedback via forum, discord, reddit, ANYTHING. i'm sure we'd be happy to have some comms via morse code or letter in a bottle, floated to a remote beach at this point re: GMS issues.

i think part of it is also inkwell so badly wants to be the face of GMS instead of providing a good product, so all comms go through him and that doesn't get delegated down. but no, do we really need inkwell literally playing classic and providing edgy comms? let nemi take care of comms re:classic and find a nemi equivalent for retail.

can't speak for heroic, but i know interactive is dying out, with top players quitting and it reflects through transaction volume being at the lowest i've ever seen for the past 2 years, worse than pre-merge somehow, across all assets in the game.

just complete failure from a person leading the product side of a business which encompasses customer success.

Maplestory is a toxic relationship and is objectively an awful game with a horrible company holding it hostage and a community that largely allows shitty practices to continue.

If you enjoy the game (like I do), it's best played by showing up every few months to enjoy events and new content - then fucking off for a bit when the beyond tedious grind sinks in.

Come on man, MapleStory is objectively a good game otherwise it wouldn't get any attention. Bosses are fun, controls are really good, and the core systems like stats and skills are very well designed. It's the progression that's troublesome because it induces gambling habits, and the loot system is obnoxious, and those hold back the game from being a healthy and delightful experience.

6

u/Seethcoomers Heroic Kronos 1d ago

Your last couple of sentences are why it's a bad game.

1

u/OverlordDerp CapREEESun / 290 Cannoneer / Reboot 1d ago

While I generally agree, I think there's room for more clear descriptors. Maple can be seen as a good game (bosses, class identity, the appeal of parallel upgrade paths) while also being a completely dogshit service (predatory monetization, stealth event nerfs, no worthwhile communication, heavy-handed playtime extension design choices, the list goes on)

2

u/Choncho_Jomp 1d ago

attention is all it takes?

u/Temil Heroic Kronos 1d ago

I'm just feeling like Maple doesn't respect the time I put into it and the magic is quickly going away. I just feel so defeated when I spend hours bossing every week, only for a CPU to choose a number and go "haha, loser, I chose the wrong number so you don't get a pitched drop for the (xth) week in a row!"

With the time scale of maplestory's game design of improving your character over months and years, determinism in upgrade acquisition is SO important. It's why fragments feel good, and pitched waiting room kills motivation to play the game.

32

u/Junior-Fee-5321 2d ago

Your feelings are valid and I've seen more people quit in the last 3 months than I have in a long while, only time will tell if it's just a break from burnout or real quit.

But some of your justifications are pretty weird. Never seen a SoS in 20 years of mapling? Cap. Booming items? Are you 115k+ hexa to be booming so often? There is real burnout with the sheer mesos requirements now for sure but you shouldnt be booming rare items.

GMS has been profitable for a while, frieren vac pets being literally 4x the cost was another scummy move but they've been making good money for a while with peak player counts.

All I can say is, maybe take a step back during these off events and see if you yearn to play more. If not, maybe it's time to keep dialing it back

6

u/13ae Broni 2d ago

i mean does it matter what their hexa is. it feels like dogshit to cap on star specks for 3 months and spend weeks of boss income just to boom past 22 even if you are late/end game. it's become so normalized for people to spend 20 hours a week bossing on top of 2 waps a day + events like cw, which is an insane time commitment. plus all that to be gapped by someone who has been playing for less than a year, locked in lynn, hit roro4 and some the brilliant drops, and had a few good ssf events. the game just doesn't respect your time.

1

u/Unrelenting_Salsa 1d ago

plus all that to be gapped by someone who has been playing for less than a year, locked in lynn, hit roro4 and some the brilliant drops, and had a few good ssf events

This is one of the two big things for me personally as somebody who isn't OG OG but was there in 2005 and started playing again a few months before destiny. While they are undoubtedly playing the hell out of the game, it sucks ass to be gapped by people on 6 month old characters because they get lucky and the systems have powercreeped so much that most of my previous effort doesn't matter much at all. The system powercreep has also made the systems completely uninteresting. You just do them until you hit a threshold and repeat. You no longer need to think about spares and downside risk. A lot of people welcome this, but it's not interesting.

The other being that I hate new boss designs which I went into a bit in a top level comment but is nothing groundbreaking. They're not good.

0

u/Junior-Fee-5321 1d ago

I asked about hexa because you can hit 112-115k without a single 23 star in which case booms shouldn't be a big issue

-7

u/Ketchary Heroic Kronos 1d ago

It's illogical to WAP and then complain about the game respecting your time.

Challenge World only leads to burnout if you don't prioritise things right and you try to run two worlds of events simultaneously. If you just mainswap for the period of the event then it's a really great experience.

People who upgrade past 22 stars get what they deserve. Virtually every game has a soft cap for progression where pushing further is technically possible but not recommended. You don't need to spend countless hours for marginal gains. At that point you should either power up some other characters or move onto a different game because you've essentially won.

-12

u/owqe 2d ago

well they have 436% dr on their main which means they might not even be 290

4

u/Junior-Fee-5321 2d ago

Doesn't matter that much. Drop rate was capped at 400% for the longest time anyways

-8

u/owqe 2d ago

what do you mean? is there proof of that because i’ve never heard that before

6

u/Junior-Fee-5321 2d ago

The drop rate cap was raised to 500% with tallahart release. It capped at 400% in the window and patch notes corroborate that it was raised

-3

u/owqe 2d ago

ohh i thought you meant that there’s still an invisible cap of 400

3

u/Junior-Fee-5321 2d ago

Nah, it was earlier than I thought but it was v255 with RoD season 1 piss pots that they raised the drop rate, it was reflected in the stat window

1

u/TeeQueueW 1d ago

Nah, but the invisible cap is at 250% for frags.

……I wish that was a lie, but drop rate applies at a % of actual value for things outside of boss drops.

-9

u/glimmerware Luminous 2d ago

I'm about to be 288 so well on my way. I'm by no means a giga farmer. But I wasn't lying, Ive never had a source. My main has daybreaks and sup gollux pendants. That wasn't really the point of this topic, I was just mentioning pitched droprate as one of the more frustrating RNG aspects of this RNG game

5

u/xkillo32 1d ago

U just don't farm period.

6

u/1620081392477 1d ago

I feel the same. I played on and off for years but stopped playing a little into the current patch because of exactly the same thing (and if you search my comment history you could probably see me use the same phrases of the game not respecting your time).

This CW I mainswapped to Ren, had a blast progressing, and pushed into grandis for the first time (since now ctene and early grandis up to ekaling is not even close to end game anymore) and that was a lot of fun. My time was rewarded at a reasonable pace for me.

But then once you start to go for >21 stars, or >2L, or hybrid meso/drop, or familiars, the game just turns into a low-odds casino, where you spend weeks saving and minutes flushing it all down the drain for incremental gains. It's artificially constrained and designed to keep people down on purpose to maximize profits over fun, and I feel like I've already experienced what the game has to offer by making it to ekaling (including a small taste of the pain of trying to upgrade - like going almost 40b dry without a single hybrid, which was insane).

I didn't bother uninstalling but I haven't played in a couple weeks and while I still check the sub sometimes I already know I don't want to just repeat the same loop on hard just to do the same bosses on harder difficulties when I could be playing other games that actually "reward" your grind with new content to experience

I might come back seasonally to play some old quests or something, because the base game is fun and charming and I love the music and ambience, but I don't think I'm ever going to try to actually progress further anymore, so I'm basically done with the game

7

u/SpectreOwO 2d ago

This is a large reason I quit Interactive. Every dollar I spent on gear that will depreciate. Every hour I spent on a dying server. What's the point?

Then I go to Heroic where I have to play the game as a part-time job to progress at a meaningful pace. Why can't they just buff Interactive so I can buy WAPs? I ask myself. Guess I'll be MVP Red so I can cut down on my Monster Parks and dailies. $6k a year for a hobby that keeps me indoors away from people. Is this really a fulfilling hobby? Is this how I want to spend my time and money?

Now I play Classic. Economy's fucked from Day 2 because of exploits and meso sellers. Why would I spend any money now? I might as well wait a month and everything will be much cheaper. Mesos get devalued by tens of percentage points each day. Why even level? I have no chance at being one of the top players on the rankings. Everything will get easier over time. I log off.

You can always justify quitting the game. The thing that stops you is that you're having fun. If you're not having a good time, take a break and maybe you'll find something better to do. Maple is a unique game which is why it's hard for me to drop. I'd probably quit video games all together if I quit Maple because the few games that appealed to me at one point in life are now ruined. I think I'm lowkey scared of not having anything to do on a daily basis without Maple because I've tried other hobbies and they did not grab my attention like this game.

In the 2.3 years I've been back on Maple, I've spent around $15k. I don't regret a dollar. I am able to just move on.

1

u/Oriete 2d ago

How did the economy got ruined that fast in classic? The server is 1 week old, curious question

Bots and cheaters

3

It's a lil more than bots and cheaters. ZerobyDivide has a video going over it https://youtu.be/RWFSplEzOB0?is=Z2JSKq7a9iTEjimI

but in case people have an issue with him

Tldr: Min maxers gonna min max and farm more mesos leading to more meso into the economy, and classic has no meso sinks and drops are too rare so people mesos just keep increasing from players playing.

Classic has been a boon for me. It's the only time I felt as though training felt genuinely fun and rewarding unlike Modern where the entirety of my progress is thrown out in a single session before I'm required again to spend another part time job's worth of time to make zero progress.

My feedback about Classic is that it feels too grindy. Needs a balance for people with only an hour a day of commitment and still feel worth it to play. Party questions feel like a good mix but its too repetitive.

1

u/Unable_Arm_398 293 Night Lord Kronos 1d ago

I'm not sure what you mean about making no progress in modern maple. Unless you're at endgame. Classic has always been grindy. My dad used to give me an hour on the computer a day as a kid, imagine that.

u/glimmerware Luminous 2d ago

That's awful. Worst Ive lost was 50b in one session and many boomed things. And it's not even "fun" or "funny" like some streamers who get to clip it for maple clips/views/laugh with their friends about it, it's not very funny when its you alone, and you just wasted so many hours of your life because RNG

5

Maplestory is a shitty game that hates you, personally, for playing it.

5

u/Drooozer 2d ago

Sounds like a quit/ take a break angle if these things are taking a toll on your mental.

As far as the complaints you have, while I somewhat agree they can be painful, all of this is very mitigated and QoL has improved a ton.

Haven’t seen a source? 4mos at worst with pity system to outright buy one. It’s crazy to never have seen one, but there’s a very solid solution.

If items are booming so much to the point your digressing, I think you’re using starforce incorrectly. Either full safeguard so you cannot boom (accepting the cost increase) or sf items you can replace, and can afford to reasonably return to what you had. If you’re risking let’s 20 items with no safeguard and can’t get back to 20* due to lack of spares or meso, that was a mistake. Sure you can get super unlucky and go way over average, but at that point you’d hopefully decided the risk for that one item was worth it, and not bricking the content you currently do. Otherwise you need to way over save, OR full safeguard to 22. Alternatively, laddering gear is an option.

The vac pets without unified cash shop is KIND of annoying, but seriously how many characters are you farming on regularly? You do not need a vac pet to do dailies on mules. The frieren pets were straight up whale bait, and looking at the rates should have made that obvious. Is it bullshit how expensive they are? Yes. Is it your fault for gambling to hit them? Also yes. When you can guarantee a vac pet for 70k nx (that comes with 2 “bonus” months of life), gambling on the frieren pets is just not smart in my opinion. I also don’t think that essentially 50k nxentry, with a 10k nx “subscription” is asking that much for a f2p game. We get an okay amount of free vac pets during events like challenger world to suffice while you focus a new char. You also don’t HAVE to revive the pet the months you aren’t training much. All in all I just don’t think 120k nx/year subscription is egregious.

As far as progressing in reboot, unless you’re going beyond 22* (which doesn’t sound like you yet), it’s very very much brute force able. This kind of gear will take you to destiny liberation strength. Id be interested to know where you are progression wise to feel such an insurmountable wall.

The reality is that RNG is a core part of maplestory, and will be for the foreseeable future. It might be worth finding a new game to main and treat this as a time filler/ casual game for you when you feel like logging in. Remember this IS still a game, you don’t have to log in or do the stuff you don’t enjoy.

Take a break if u feel like it. I know damn well my characters arent strong and cant clear new boss release anyways. But just solely being a daily player (30min wap) and chill bossing with irl friends makes maple more enjoyable. I dont need to chase endgame and play comfortably at my own pace. Sincerely, a reg server f2p bishop

2

u/BTTLC 1d ago

Every time i quit the game for an extended time was due to poor sf rng blowing up months of farming for no notable gain. I wish there was a pity counter that capped the unlucky route at like 3x average cost/taps before a guaranteed success.

It might’ve taken you 10+ years, but you started thinking rationally eventually.

Congrats, not everyone will get there.

you're gonna have to see the big picture which involves accepting that the most optimal way to enjoy this game in particular is for 2 conditions to be filled:

a) You are willing and able to spend as much money as possible

b) You are willing and able to invest as much time into the game as possible

People who play multiple hours a day but hate every second of it are not enjoying the game despite spending hours on it. People who are running themselves ragged financially to buy pixels on the screen will continue to do so DESPITE their own enjoyment being irrelevant. Ultimately, a game you play to chill out, relax, and have fun in your free time should principally be fun. Fun and enjoyment with your free time should be the most important and relevant detail. And I'd argue over 80% of committed Maplestory players fall into one or both of the categories above.

The people I know who happily play Maplestory (which isn't you right now) are loaded and don't have any money concerns, or people who bot/cheat so their characters are farming frags/meso for 8 hours while they're at work so they always have resources (meso/frags/spares) that would otherwise be restrictive to the "fun" part of the game (progression), or unemployed/NEETs/streamers who are happily giving Maplestory their free time hours because they have nothing better to spend that free time on.

This is the unfortunate reality of an "MMO" like Maplestory and for many of us quitting is the best thing to do (I happily quit a year ago)

u/CAPTURELOG 1d ago

Hitting terrible rng after weeks of grinding is the absolute worst feeling in this game.

1

u/Ryboiii 1d ago

The only time worth playing feels like the Major patches tbh. There are plenty of other games out there that will respect your time until those are out. MMOs have their ebbs and flows

1

u/Timactor 1d ago

Maplestory is objectively a shit game

the amount of hours required of grinding just to "play" the game is absolutely insane and unhealthy, this is coming from someone who put 1000s of hours into reboot and liberated pre-dmg cap increase/final dmg buff

it's basically a gambling sim at this point

1

u/ITSrenzitoXD 1d ago

Bro!!! It's all RNG—not even the Hexa is safe. Or are you leaving out the Hexa Stat? XD

1

u/glimmerware Luminous 1d ago

I thought the general consensus was that min-maxxing your hexa stat is an endgame step and not really important unless you're going for the very hardest bosses

1

u/Chainrush 1d ago

This is why MMORPG is downtrending. FOMO, p2w, endless competition, no respect in your time and so on while there are plenty of fun experiences

1

u/GuavaSpam 1d ago

Liberated in real life from this game a few months ago and never felt better. Hours and hours of time restored to your life, no need of making even more time for scheduling bosses, no sadness of booming, no fomo. Literally so much more time for other passions and relationships. Yeah there will always be the fomo and who knows might get a cheeky log in when the next challenger world hits. But who cares. It’s just a game at the end of the day.

u/icehism 1d ago

I think it’s just the way there are no comms and their refusal to do QOL and balance with reboot in mind.

No universal CS, frieren vac pets with huge nerfed rates, maybe account wide vac could be coming but we’ll have to see maplecon, the new enhancement system is good but is a gigantic meso killer even for me who has 7 characters running ctene or grandis every week and at this point I just use CW to make more ctene or higher mules. They didn’t bring auto flaming or auto cube over so it doesn’t take hours of your manual time to keep tapping. The crystal prices need to be updated. We don’t make enough mesos to sustain 23/24+ tapping and the time investment to even sell 180 crystals per week is crazy. I also don’t get why ring boxes are not tradable within account.

Then you have the issue with kms classes lagging behind non-kms classes but there’s a big damage problem in reboot in general cause people aren’t able to do baldrix destiny so it doesn’t make sense to nerf everything to kms levels.

And then there is the frag issue for mules. For a game that rewards account-wide progression, obtaining any significant amount of frags on mules is impossible. The frags aren’t tradable within account if you farm them also tho I think this is a minor issue. I’d be so happy if they had bosses just dropping frags to help my mules like what Kai did along with more events to get frags.

I think at least 20 min bosses, 7x monster park in one run, shorter epic dungeons should help to decrease time needed per week but these are kms changes, not something inkwell is doing specifically for gms so it’s not like the gms team is helping to alleviate the grind

It's fine to quit. After so many years, it's pretty clear the RNG progression portions of the game are foundational and are certain to almost never meaningfully change, and if that's something you can't deal with, then it's fine to just quit. If you're hoping some big change will eventually come, it's fine to just quit until then, because inevitably there will be some major progression shortcuts available for you to use when you rejoin. Events come and go, but they are only a portion of what comprises the game. If you don't like playing the game, it's fine to quit.

2

u/glimmerware Luminous 2d ago

Ive been thinking of "quitting" bossing progression, however stupid that sounds.

I do not enjoy giving up hours each week to do it. And especially not throwing my savings away because I had bad starforcing RNG

I do not want to quit the game because I still love farming like I mentioned. So I might just become a farmer/leveler and not care so much about bossing or getting "stronger" to do more bossing.

4

u/shootingdai 2d ago

I’ve stopped at Kaling, no real reason to go further, rather just get all my other characters to that point. Once I get them all there I’ll figure out what to do next. My hard cap is 290 max frags Hard Kaling. I’ve had the most fun getting to that point on my main and am still enjoying that on other characters.

1

u/glimmerware Luminous 2d ago

Similar thoughts. I'm about to hit 288 and have a few hexa skills maxed. Maybe endgame isn't for me and that's okay

-2

u/shootingdai 2d ago

End game guilds are also super cringe… another thing that throws me off from wanting to go further. Honestly only about 5 guilds in all of maplestory that are actually worth being in that are super chill, active and just full of wholesome members.

1

u/ranrandydydy liar 2d ago

can you elaborate on why they are cringe?

-3

u/shootingdai 2d ago

Once you get to the end game or best of the best you get to the people who are overly dedicated. The elitist. The clicks, the expectations etc.The game no longer is a game for fun those people play as if they get paid, devote devious amounts of time to the game which a little bit of it could be used to start another hobby that interacts with people outside. Those chill guilds I was talking about… they have end gamers but the very best have other hobbies which make them a lot more personable. This is the same in most games tho it’s not specifically maple.

1

u/Saxxon571 1d ago

This is true for 99% of all MMOs out there. Endgamers will be the minmax who will shit on people. Its like competitiveness to the max cringe. On the other hand it is a choice they make to put so many hours into the game. It is what they are passionate about, their hobby, and maybe its all they have. Understand that when you get to endgame in any MMO you will face these kinds of people.

-2

u/doreda Reboot 2d ago

You don't need to be in a guild to do endgame bossing. It just helps for networking to find groups.

-1

u/shootingdai 2d ago

1

u/Dangerous-Dig-7949 2d ago

Yeah I stopped giving them money after the whole go west and ms global will get its own dev team and updates/patches with come sooner with unique content but where still about half a year+ behind MS KR and the most unique things we got are different ways to spend hundreds of dollars for slight enhancements (that should be base game or at least obtainable for the average person)

1

u/Knifsen1 2d ago

Completely agreed on your points. After the ending of CW3 I though: Why do I keep paying for a game which 1. Doesn't respect your time, 2. Not even your money since everything gets easier every year and the VERY SERVER which was promised to be free of pay 2 win mechanics, becomes increasingly P2W. Meaning your progression means almost nothing in 1/2 years time. I switched to Classic WOW, waiting for WOW Forever now, never going back. A million times better in every possible way and way more fun, would recommend!

1

u/Unrelenting_Salsa 1d ago

It's a bit controversial, but I think a big part is that boss design has just sucked recently. Absolutely no replayability in a game where you kill bosses hundreds of times before moving on. Once you know Limbo, Adversary, Baldrix, Star, etc. you're just not going to have any trouble with them at all which was not true of Arcane river bosses and Seren because they have much more randomness that you need to react to. Kalos has also been nerfed into oblivion but used to be fun albeit probably too hard. Kaling is the only interesting Grandis boss remaining imo.

1

u/Crypto-Tears this game will die by RNG slopfest 1d ago

I’m happy to see people get blackpilled over RNG slop

1

u/glimmerware Luminous 1d ago

I like your tag

1

u/Mediocre_Gains 1d ago

I feel like a lot of the points you have are exaggerated. There’s pitched pity; rng drops is in almost every mmo, and losing damage is your fault for not laddering. The only item where you lose damage is astra, and that’s endgame enough that you have the money to keep sending it back.

It’s not theft, you choose to buy it. Other games sell you a pass with perks (like crystalline aura in lost ark). In this game, it is just vac pets if you want to farm.

Changslop is not our director, and they pay up the ass for other things we don’t. There are also f2p players with vac pets by making reg characters, selling mesos for maplepoints to refresh vac pets.

Not a fan of the low pull rate on frieren but once again they show the rate. So it’s really just on your self control to not fall into the gacha bait.

The game has its flaws, but I don’t think what you mentioned are actually big issues. (E.g. terrible class balancing across regions, familiar system is terrible, lack of comms, long game downtimes)

0

u/hdbfivienfichbskfg 2d ago

If you’re ever looking into another mmo, would recommend osrs. Game that is actually fun/easy to grind/do content and rewards you for your time. Main account > ironman as long as you don’t fall into the efficiency/gpscape mentality. 7.5k hours in maple in 2 years. Did not enjoy 5-6k of those hours.

1

u/glimmerware Luminous 2d ago

Yeah Ive dabbled in runescape over my life, not seriously as a main game though, it just doesn't have an interesting vibe for me. Looking to other games is a good idea tho, I'm trying Aion 2 and having a fun time so far

0

u/laurencekeng Nova 2d ago

I wanna start by saying it is a kmmo. Kmmos are notoriously bad for being extremely grindy for no good reason besides just being grindy. The rng in this game has always been awful and it used to be worse (and it’s been proven to be rigged in the past who knows about now).

With regard to monetization. Gms is mostly reboot and is monetized heavily due to easy sales being in vac pets and non-direct p2w (passes) since direct p2w (cubes/scrolls) were promised to not be in reboot. Kms also has those passes as well so it’s not gms exclusive but kms players can use meso to buy maple points to buy most of the passes (you can also do that on gms interactive). Nexon is extremely greedy and will find any possible way to monetize anything possible just look at classic lmao.

With that said nothing we say as players will change anything. If you don’t feel respected I’d say just stop playing the game. Don’t give them your money and don’t give them your time. From personal experience my mental health has gotten a lot better not playing this cursed game.

0

u/Few_Gas_7043 2d ago

understand your frustration, but Reboot and Interactive players also feel abandoned. The game keeps declining because of GMS's terrible decisions and the devs' lack of action. asking for buffs, gifts, and benefits won't solve anything. That's exactly what happened with Inkwell's memos: promises full of hope about socializing and progression, followed by free gifts to calm everyone down, while the real problems remained untouched. Years of terrible performance, maintenance, hackers, dupes, bots, memory leaks, false bans, and controversies involving cubes, scrolls, gachas, and events. Eventually, people lose patience, quit, and demand some accountability for the money they've invested. But nothing changes because Nexon keeps exploiting its players

Now MapleStory Classic is dividing the community for profit. People have already spent money on the Frieren event and other GMS content, and now Nexon is pushing Founder’s Packs for Classic. They've made huge profits, yet the same old problems are back. Some players can't even log in after paying, while others are getting banned. Meanwhile, bots and hackers are growing, mesos are inflating, and the market is already getting flooded. play GMS myself, and the reality is that other MapleStory versions are doing much better. Mr. Park is doing a fantastic job interacting with the MapleStory M community, while Inkwell is focused on Classic, sitting in a town surrounded by bot spam and handing out buffs. The contrast is ridiculous, and people can see it.

thats why GMS players are disappointed. Nothing will change until GMS gets a complete overhaul and real improvements. GMS became what it is today because Nexon made it that way. If the game eventually dies, Nexon and the people who enabled its abusive practices will share the blame. Just compare the last 30 days on Stream Charts with previous months. Has anything really changed? greetings

u/CuriousMafioso 2d ago

The point of weeklies is to keep players invested. If everyone got pitched within a month, investment would drop dramatically.

100% agree on the vac pet stance. Just make it perm or a lot more cheaper/accessible.

Yeah, the Frieren event was scummy. But it’s all cosmetics. Their bad decisions in this case doesn’t affect core gameplay.

1

u/glimmerware Luminous 2d ago

It's a deeper level of scummy on the Frieren vac pets because a large amount of allure is due to them being petite luna, AKA they can be revived for cheaper

So people end up gambling more money to have a chance at saving money in the very very long term..it's such a terrible concept lol

0

u/CuriousMafioso 2d ago

Here’s the thing that Maplers get wrong is why enable GMS’ bad behavior? I get it “Oh Frieren, cool collab,” but it doesn’t justify me purchasing hundreds of dollars just to get their vac pets. Not saying $100 is justified for normal petite luna but I would’ve bought that one and call it a day.

The community does this over and over again, buying all these RNG cosmetics or variations of pets is the same as having a partner cheat or treat you badly over and over again and still let them do it (not speaking from experience).

I know what you are feeling

I was a returner, i started playing on reboot and i think i played for 6 to 9 months before i quit. Got my main to 262, a got like 8 characters to lvl 200, you know trying to make some progress. This was back in the 22 star era. I remember i saved like 10b in a couple of months for a starforge event, that i ended up smoking it almost all away in like 10 minutes with a couple of booms that make me weaker overall. I just got disheartening with the game and stop playing a couple days later when my free vac pet that i got from an event ran off of time

2

u/Vibit 2d ago

6-9 months and got to 262? Was this before 6th job release?

0

u/GrumpyFeloPR 2d ago

Right before hexa

3

u/Vibit 2d ago

So its been almost 3 years since you quit?
