malay women planning to get married to an American boyfriend

Hi, I am reaching out because I feel so clueless. My boyfriend and I are planning to get married. He is willing to convert so we can "marry" the right way.

I have not told my parents yet, just my sister. My family background is dysfunctional; my dad is a narcissistic, abusive man who thrives on people seeing him as a religious guy, but behind closed doors he is not even a decent human being. Mom is the family caretaker and just does whatever her husband says, no matter how bad he is. For context, I do not talk to my dad at all, even at home. There would always be fights, so I am glad I am far away from my family. Recently, my mom has had a heart disease related to her severe anxiety. Growing up with her, she would always worry about what people think of her, so that's probably the reason why she does not divorce my dad and fight back (I suspect my dad and my grandma are the cause of her anxiety, the way they talk to her). So my siblings are trying hard not to stress her out.

A couple of months ago, I told my mom through texts that I took off my hijab (been free hair for a couple of years), and she did not react very well. She mentioned something about how she should just die, and there was all this screaming and crying, and my sister had to comfort her.

I told my sister I want to get married to this guy, and her reaction is mixed because my mom is just getting better. She advised me to get married in Malaysia and talk to my parents directly instead of texting my mom. The problem starts when I do my research. Under mazhab Syafie, I need to have my dad's consent, but the problem is that he would do anything to make me unhappy. I am willing to do this the "right" way (boyfriend willing to convert and making sure the nikah is valid, etc.), so my mom's health would not get worse. To override his consent, there seems to be a lot of paperwork and bureaucracy involved. If it were not for my mom and my sister, I would have just done a civil marriage.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it turns out that if your dad is a creepy guy abusing his kids financially, physically, and emotionally, he still has to be the wali mujbir, and I still need his consent? My dad, who is this so-called "orang alim," has already had his ego hurt by me taking my hijab off, so I would probably bruise his ego more if I came to my parents and told them I want to marry an American. If I were not born into this dysfunctional family, this marriage process would have gone better.

I don't know if any of you guys out there were ever in the same situation as me. I feel so depressed and cried last night, but I am gonna get a therapist soon. Even if I don't get married and move back to Malaysia, I don't know what my parents want me to do. I won't get any more religious than I am. Worst case, they might marry me off to some random anak imam and force me to wear hijab back, and I don't mind fighting back even if my boyfriend is not with me. I am so ready to call their bullshit out if they ever do that.

Question/Discussion Korang berangan tak what if...

Aku selalu berangan the what ifs. How would the country be today if the country were majority Anglicans/Catholics/Buddhists or even Hindus?

At the very least the most secular and progressive Muslim majority country in the whole wide world.

Cultural Muslim/Islam in name only type of deal. Possible republic? Tetap hanya kekal angan-angan.

Kenapa sultey-sultey gedik sangat nak convert? Kenapa tak kekal hindu/buddhist/animisme?

Belanda/Portugis/British or missionaries tak gedik pulak nak convert sultey-sultey ni jadi Catholic/Anglican atau orang ramai macam diorang buat kat Sabah/Sarawak dulu padahal masa masih Brunei dulu berlambak rakyat kat situ animisme and then Kristian pulak memang tak payah pun agama sama macam Sultan.

Masa sultey-sultey masih Hindu/buddha dulu pun rakyat kebanyakkan animisme kepercayaan lain terus.

Sebenarnya memang tak ada undang-undang pun agama rakyat atau Melayu mesti sama macam Sultan until TAR buat perlembagaan tu not too long ago 😡

So hypothetically would the country thrive the best with majority Anglicans, Catholics, Buddhists or Hindus in your opinion? Aku honestly Tak tahu sebab tak payah pergi jauh tengok jiran ajer sebab asal usul budaya hampir sama. Filipina (katolik) sama Siam/Myanmar/Vietnam (Buddha) diorang pun lingkup jugak.

Question/Discussion Vent, Nihilism(?)

Recently I feel there is no point in life and I'm just 17

I stopped believing in any religion at 2024. I was depressed trying to find the 'truth', it all ends up doesn't make sense to me. From Islam to Christianity to Agnostic.

Then I ends up with no point of living. I mean at least i escaped the miserable idea of finding the truth or the right religion to believe in but now I don't have any point to live. Not like i want to die but I just don't see the point of living.

I can't just start believing in a religion despite it doesn't make sense to me. Islam or any religion will never make sense to me though at least I know I live to die and go to heaven?

Me and my family never really have a good relationship. Me and my friends? I don't like socialising much.

Question/Discussion High IQ?

Banyak musley kat Afrika sama Asia selatan memang low IQ because of all the inbreeding but let's not go there.

Maksud aku diorang memang secretly atheist/agnostic tapi pura-pura alim for their own benefits. Keep the masses dumb baru boleh sailang puas-puas. Grifters. Untung sailang or being hypocritical especially kalau lelaki lah. Fuck these scumbags tapi aku masih boleh lagi faham mangkuk macam ni sebab orang jahat memang wujud ajer kat mana pun.

Yang aku tak boleh faham tak boleh percaya memang ada orang high IQ but truly percaya agama especially evangelicals, musleys or Hindus.

Macam mana IQ kau 150+ tapi kau percaya the prophet Naik syurga atas keldai kepala perempuan? Yang prophet have the sexual prowess of 30 (?) average men. Percaya malaikat masuk gua bagitahu prophet yang dia prophet. Many other ridiculous shit.

Bukan ajer yang 150+ yang 120+ pun aku tak boleh faham macam mana diorang boleh percaya ni semua. Heck it's even hard to believe anyone with 100IQ believing any of this.

Ada orang macam ni believe it or not. What do you guys think about this?

Azerbaijan school hijab ban part 2. Moderate religious breed extremism

YouTube title: HIJAB BAN BACKFIRES

Personally, MY national budget 2027 announced economic GDP growth of 6% in quarter 2 with huge subsidies allocated for the population, even after 69 years of independence.

Do you understand?

  • Economic growth = people need subsidies
  • 69 years later...
  • Economic growth = people need more subsidies, despite being more religious.

= The system (economy, religion) is setup against the majority's quality of life.

The system did not uplift people out of poverty. Gov't intervene the system with subsidies to care for B40. After 30+ years, B40 still increasing ... isn't the system creating more poverty?

How many years have the previous & present government refuse to reform such system?

Life is hard. I believe schools should educate children to life & participate in economy in a future uncharted by entry of AI, economic growth & religious dominance.

Why is secularism in education better?

= SG similar population attributes & culture to MY but exclude religions from school achieve high income economy.

Girls deserve education!

= Yes. Why can't they remove headscarf during school and wear headscarf after school?

What has economy got to do with religion & us here?

  • Bike delivery gets paid for delivering food.
  • Sales agent gets paid for sales closed.
  • Gov't budget $3.1B for religious expansion.
  • Gov't budget billions for 1 race (isn't gov't funding racism?)

My question to folks who accused me is,

"Why gov't refuse to use revenue from halal industry & banking to finance religious initiative (instead of using public funds $3.1B per year)?"

  • Halal-product exports were RM59.46 billion (US$12.89 billion) in 2022
  • Islamic banking assets were about RM1.5 trillion in 2023, based on a market estimate.
  • BNM reports that Islamic financing reached 48% of total financing in 2025.

For those who have been dumb down by religions then naturally they will never understand.

Update on Azerbaijan from Turkey: https://www.turkishminute.com/2026/10/03/ankara-silent-on-azerbaijan-hijab-restrictions-despite-erdogans-condemnation-of-headscarf-bans/ Snippets of the news:

"Azerbaijan’s Decision No. 309, signed by Prime Minister Ali Asadov on September 21, bars students at state schools from wearing additional items that disrupt the uniform or are inconsistent with the principle of secularism in general education."

Girls wearing headscarves were turned away from Sumgait School No. 6, near Baku, on September 28, Operativ TV reported. Mustafa Yeneroğlu, an independent İstanbul lawmaker and former member of Erdoğan’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), cited footage shot outside the school and said the images “wounded all our consciences.”

Turkey’s government has not publicly responded to Azerbaijan’s new school dress rules or reports of girls being barred from classes for wearing headscarves, despite President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s condemnation of school headscarf bans at the UN General Assembly in New York on September 22.

The Turkish government dismantled headscarf restrictions between 2010 and 2017. Erdoğan built his image as a champion of religious women through his campaign to end restrictions that had excluded them from education and public employment, winning support among conservative women. He repeatedly invoked the former bans to attack the secular opposition, presenting the freedoms secured under his government as a reason for voters to support his party.

In İstanbul, the Freedom of Thought and Education Rights Association (Özgür-Der) organized a protest outside the Azerbaijani Consulate on October 3. Demonstrators carried a banner reading “No to the hijab ban in Azerbaijan!” Former Özgür-Der chair Hülya Şekerci urged Turkish officials to press Baku to end the restrictions, the Haksöz Haber news website reported. She also referred to unconfirmed claims that Turkish officials had warned Azerbaijan.

End.

Question/Discussion Theo Van Gogh - Submission

Post image
23 Upvotes

In August 2004, Dutch television aired a 10 minute film about the ab*se of Muslim women, with verses of the Quran written across their bodies. It was called Submission.

It was directed by Theo van Gogh, a filmmaker and newspaper columnist in Amsterdam, a great-grandnephew of the painter Vincent, who had built a career on offending people.

It was written by Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a Somali-born member of the Dutch parliament who had left Islam.

He was 47 and had been receiving d*ath threats for months. He had refused police protection.

On the morning of November 2, 2004, van Gogh was cycling to work on the Linnaeusstraat when Mohammed Bouyeri, 26, sht him off his bike, then sh*t him again where he lay.

Witnesses said van Gogh asked whether they couldn’t talk about it. Bouyeri cut his throat and left 2 kn*ves in his body, one pinning a 5 page letter to his chest. The letter quoted the Quran and was addressed to Hirsi Ali.

Bouyeri walked to a nearby park, where he exchanged fire with police and was sht in the leg. He had wanted to de there.

He put on no defense at trial. He told the court he acted purely in the name of his religion, that he felt nothing for van Gogh’s family, and that he would do the same again.

He asked for the maximum sentence himself. On July 26, 2005 he got it: life, which in the Netherlands means no parole.

Hirsi Ali went into hiding. 2 bystanders were hit by stray rounds.

In the weeks after, mosques, Islamic schools and churches across the Netherlands were set on fire. About 20,000 people gathered at the scene in tribute.

The dad threw him under the bus

So basically this guy, Daniel is a troubled young man. There is evidence that since he was young, he had this "supernatural gifts". There is no mention of mental health issue anywhere. He monetized his "gifts". This happened a few years ago, by the way.

Instead of seeking professional help, the dad threatened to disown him and destroyed idols in his bedroom until Daniel was su!c!dal. The mom, I guess, motivated by the money he made, enabled his delusion. Maybe she also felt the need to protect her children so she just supported them. I don't know.

This article is his dad's side of the story, written by his friend in a social media post before getting in the tabloid - he just washes his hands off his family - divorced the mom, disowned his kids and now goes to pray in masjid daily.

I just feel that if this was handled better by both parents when Daniel was a child, he wouldn't be in this mess. Don't get me wrong. He should have the freedom to choose his faith. Unfortunately, this is Malaysia. He still needs professional help, not some religous police putting him in some religious camp somewhere.

POEM - THE PRISON WITHOUT BARS

A poem about being a closeted ex-Muslim Malay

I was born into a name

I never chose,

into a story written for me

before I knew how to read.

They taught me who to be

before I discovered who I was.

And somewhere along the way,

I learned that silence

could be a form of survival.

So I became a secret

living inside a human being.

I smile when I want to scream.

I remain silent when I want to speak.

I hide questions that should never

have made me afraid.

Outside, I am someone's daughter,

someone's neighbour,

someone who appears to belong.

Inside, I am a stranger

asking whether I will ever

be allowed to come home to myself.

I am thirty-two.

Thirty-two years of living,

yet sometimes I feel

I have never truly been alive.

I grieve for the girl

who learned to fear her own thoughts.

I grieve for the woman

who must calculate the cost

of telling the truth.

I am angry.

Not because I want to hurt anyone,

but because I want the freedom

to exist without being afraid.

I want happiness

without guilt.

Love without conditions.

A home without fear.

A future that doesn't require

me to betray myself

just to be accepted.

And perhaps the cruelest part

is not that I have lost so many years.

It is that I must spend

even more of my life

trying to recover them.

But listen.

Beneath the silence,

beneath the anger,

beneath this exhaustion

that nobody sees.

I am still here.

Not a symbol.

Not a controversy.

Not a label to be debated.

A human being.

And I have always deserved

the ordinary miracle

of being free.

Rant What an odd thing

I've seen SOME malay/muslim men talk about how muslim women should cover up or "tak ada maruah sebab dia tak pakai tudung dalam tiktok dia", like first of all, you're talking bad about someone, that is a sin in Islam, second of all, you use profanity regularly, wears shorts, smokes and vapes, third of all, you're also sinning cause you saw a woman that didn't cover herself up. You use the word "astagfirullah" only around other people as a facade. You lecture but don't practice. You like to say "orang barat yg membawa budaya songsang ke negara kita patut diharamkan masuk malaysia", like bitch, what the hell do u mean "negara kita", you litter, you hate on others because they don't have the same lifestyle as you do, yo you do absolutely NOT contribute to this nation in any way.

Also Islam teaches you to not pick violence and always choose peace, yet when someone tries to correct you, you always immediately wanna fight and insult them.

And they sometimes don't even bother to think deeply of something and just jump straight to conclusion.
