binned two liquid lipsticks this year, is a tint or a peel off stain any better for a full work day?

• Upvotes

threw the second one in the bin this morning, both dried out and flaking after about three months and i barely got halfway through either tube. im in an office all day, talking, tea, lunch, and by midday the liquid ones have either gone patchy or settled into every line i own.

so im trying to work out if a tint or one of those peel off stains actually holds up better for a full day, or if its all much of a muchness and you just reapply forever anyway. dont need it flawless, just something i can forget about between meetings.

Recc' Request Mascara recommendations!

• Upvotes

I have very straight Asian lashes (iykyk) and I've found the only mascara which holds any curl is the Clio Kill Lash. Anyone tried other mascaras which also work? The only annoying things about the Clio one is it's a pain to take off and I'd love to have a brown mascara. Any recommendations appreciated!

Help Sought! Patchy Foundation

I have religiously used Too Faced Born This Way foundation since 2016 and I used to LOVE it, it always gave me a great finish and would last all day and all night. I used to wear makeup daily but now I only wear it if I'm going out somewhere nice or for an event.

I hadn't worn makeup for a few years, so I bought a new bottle last year. For some reason every time I apply it, it doesn't sit right on my skin and it doesn't blend out nicely and it's always patchy and uneven. What could cause this?

I use Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream, Mecca Max primer, and I apply foundation with a damp beauty blender, then set it with pressed powder on a brush, and then I use Mecca Max setting spray. I have tried applying it with a foundation brush but that has never worked for me and just leaves me streaky. I have also tried using a powder puff to set my foundation but that didn't make much difference except leaving me dryer than normal.

My skin care routine is Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser but not daily as my skin is sensitive and I have rosacea, and I use the moisturizer daily, often morning and night.

Does anyone have any insight as to why this might happen? Does anyone know if they changed the formula? Do I need to change any products for the days that I wear makeup? Should I try a different foundation? I like a full coverage natural/Dewey finish.

I should also add, I have tried my exact skin care routine and base makeup on the inside of my arm and back of my hand and when I put foundation on, it does start a bit patchy but then it blends out nicely and looks so much nicer than my face lol

I also used to be able to use the tip of my finger nail to press my skin if I had an itch on my face and then just lightly tap the area a bit and it was unnoticeable but if I do that now and tap it, it takes off some makeup and leaves a noticeable spot where I tapped.

Pls help me knowledgable people!

TIA xx

Recc' Request Best mum make up at Sephora

I‘m a mum and I recently turned 39. I want my make up to be natural, easy, and making me look well rested and younger. and most importantly, I want to stick the stuff on in the morning and then be DONE for the rest of the day.

I like the idea of brands like Merit but struggle to believe that I could get any longevity from a cream blush like that… natural dewy look yes, but not at the expense of having to reapply every 3 hrs.

stuff I like

- red 27 lip stains because they stay long and wear off gradually so they don’t have to be managed like other lip stains

- liquid blush and/or tarte amazonian clay blush because it stays long

- tubing mascara because I have oily eyelids

- I LOVE the look of the loreal glass stick but it doesn’t last and settle into lines

- anything dewy but that doesn’t make pores look bigger. blurring stuff is good

I‘ve got a giftcard from sephora but open to any suggestions, really

Excess Sweating

Due to medication and the menopause, I am suffering from excess sweating. I find once I have applied my make up using both a primer, powder and a setting spray, my make up just gets literally washed off my face with sweat. Has anyone found a product that really works to stop this?

Colour correctors uk

Has anyone tried these specifically and can rank favourites pls. I know it depends on skin etc but still!!

Huda peach - I have and use despite the leaky mess - want to replace with something new.

Charlotte tilbury - I’ve tried on my hand in store a few years ago can’t remember what I thought. Creamy and sheer when blended I think?

Bobbi brown - peach and deep peach used to use it well over a decade ago in pots have just seen their sticks - I know they are good but also they did move a bit.

Tarte cc clay corrector - medium tan - have NOT tried it - really want to - it’s all over social media - it’s a pain to get in the uk so wanted to know if anyone else has tried it and loves it over the others - in videos it always looks really sticky and shiny

In my impatience I bought the catrice one from Amazon for £3 as it seemed to have a similar texture to tarte but it moves and isn’t quite what I wanted in terms of colour or coverage.

Main question is - between tarte and tilbury but if anyone can throw bb in the mix and compare that would be great.

Dark circles and eyelids are very dark brown. Deep set eyes. Skin is normal to sometimes oily after long hours of makeup. Tone is light-medium.

Help Sought! Max Factor Lasting Blur liquid replaced Lasting Performance?

I bought two of these FaceFinity liquids thinking I had a bargain, but the new “lasting blur” is all sticky, unlike the old “lasting performance” which I used to mix with moisturiser to make a nice tinted moisturiser. The new one feels like I’m putting a mask over my face instead of it sinking in.

Can anyone please recommend anything similar to the old version which felt much more natural?

Moist face wipes

Hi all

I know we shouldn’t be using face wipes but I can’t beat the addiction.

Does anyone have any recommendations for cleansing face wipes that are actually moist? Wetter the better. I find them really scratchy if they’re too dry.
Fragrance free and non exfoliating would be even better. I just want them to remove under eye makeup.

I used to use Kirkland but the ones I like have been discontinued.

Thank you!

Recc' Request Help me find a black eyeliner pencil

Can anyone recommend a decent black eyeliner pencil? I need one that doesn't smudge, even with what I have been told are sweaty eyelids 😅

Tried:

YSL, lines liberated. Was ok, but kept breaking when sharpening and it is expensive for that to happen.

Benefit Badgal hypeliner. Not bad, but didn't last long for thr money. Ran out when I'd done only done one eye!

Tried cheaper ones like Rimmel and Maybelline, but they smudged!

Anyone have a decent go to that doesn't cost the earth?

Thank you in advance.

Oily skin girlies, what's your go-to setting spray?

I have oily skin and my whole face gets shiny so fast, my forehead and nose are the worst but even my cheeks start looking greasy after a few hours. It's such a struggle trying to keep my makeup looking decent throughout the day. Most mornings my makeup goes on around 7:30 before heading to work and everything looks great at first. But by lunchtime my face is already shiny and my foundation starts breaking up around my nose. By the time I get home after work it feels like half my makeup has disappeared lol. I've tried using less foundation and setting everything with powder but I still end up needing touch-ups throughout the day. I wanted to try the Milani make it last spray but I don't know if its good for my face. Has anyone with oily skin tried it? Also I wanna know about everyone's routine. Do you use powder before setting spray or after? Would love to know what works because I'm tired of checking my face every minute.

Help Sought! Setting (not fixing) spray?

Hello can anyone recommend a setting spray that doesn't make a plasticky film over the skin that then peels in weird patches?

Also, I don't know the difference between setting and fixing sprays as they seem interchangeable depending on brand.

What I want:

something that kind of dampens/ blurs/ de-cakeifies makeup rather than varnishes it with an extra layer.

I used to use a now discontinued MUA one which was technically a "cooling" spray which was great, and also a sport/ gym 'refresh" spray by Revolution (also discontinued)

High street/ low budget preferred

I don't want:

anything that adds extra dewiness or glow (I'm shiny enough).

Any of the hairspray types that feel sticky and then peels

Many thanks

Best Lash Glue?

I haven't worn false lashes since 2021 and I used to swear by the DUO lash glue (black version) but I've seen that they may have changed the formula and it's gone down hill...

Does anyone have any recommendations for lash glue (for strip lashes specifically), preferably black but not the of the world of it's a clear glue?

Thanks! X

Holy Grail Post My search for the holy grail clear brow gel

I’ve been looking for the holy grail brow gel for well, frankly years now. These are my criteria:

  • Able to apply without much fuss, using just the product’s own brush—i.e. you don’t need a separate a metal comb to go through any clumps and beads of product on the tip of the hairs
  • Any wear throughout the day is undetectable—no flakes, pieces, etc
  • It holds the brow in the position you brushed it in for a decent amount of time, whether it’s a product for a fluffy or a laminated look it does what it says on the tin

So to save you some time and hopefully money, here's my review of some of the ones I've tried over the last few years.

KJH Nano Set Brow Gel, £21

Tiny brush gets all the hairs, virtually invisible application that leaves a natural texture finish somewhere in between fluffy matte and sheen. This has lasted me entire days out with only a trace hairs naked from product at the end of the night.

Texture ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hold ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Wear ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Lisa Eldridge Kitten Brow, £26

Huge brush, squarely a no makeup makeup kind of fluffy matte look product. The result is gorgeous and the product is invisible but it will not hold all day. The way it wears means you can easily reapply without disturbing previous product but it wears off a lot sooner than others on this list.

Texture ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hold ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Wear ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

VIEVE Modern Brow Gel, £23

I’m really torn on this one. Once you’ve used it a few times, it starts to get slightly gloopy, almost to “needs a metal comb” territory. It’s a little scary in that you see a lot of the texture but it dries 90% clear—bump that to 100% if you can be bothered to use a comb (which I’m too lazy to do). But it’s such a shame because it’s otherwise perfect for a slightly laminated look, like it stays strong and shiny all the way to when you remove your makeup at night.

Texture ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hold ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Wear ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Kosas Air Brow, £22

Goes on nicely, without clumps or lumps, but wears like dandruff. Seriously, after a few hours my husband was like “you’ve got dry skin on your brow” and he wasn’t even stood that close to me when he noticed. Ugh.

Texture ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hold ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Wear ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Glossier Boy Brow, £22

Very similar to the Kosas, except it doesn’t even hold that well for me.

Texture ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hold ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Wear ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Refy Brow Sculpt Eyebrow Gel, £20

This was an interesting one, because it’s absolutely needs a metal comb to comb out all the texture but once you do? My god it’s like cement. Seems to pick up a lot of dust and dirt in the day though because it’s so thick my brows turned like.. white? Cloudy? And seems like it's meant for the flat-against-the-browbone laminated look. idk

Texture ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hold ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Wear ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Rare Beauty Harmony Flexible Lifting Gel, £19

Totally unremarkable in every way. Flakey too.

Texture ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hold ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Wear ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I'd love any recs, please let me know in the comments if there's anything I should try!

Estée Lauder Double Wear replacement

Found my HG foundation in EL Double Wear but have recently learned the company is run by a MAGA ghoul and am suitably devastated. Does anyone have any recommendations for a replacement foundation with the same level of coverage and durability? Don’t mind paying premium prices as I don’t wear foundation from day to day so it tends to last a good while.

Recc' Request Light face tan recommendations?

I’ve been using Garnier Ambre Solaire face tan mist for years but it’s yet another victim of ingredient change and now you can’t spray it directly on your face.
I emailed Garnier to ask why - they said in case of accidental inhalation or eye contact. Which makes no sense as you’d probably do both if you were spraying your neck or chest for example.
Anyway, the product smells and feels different and perhaps it’s about time I found something else as it also sticks to some darker patches on my face.
I’m fair and like the convenience of the spray and a medium colour that would also go on my neck / décolletage. Just a bit of colour makes a huge difference to my overall appearance.

I’ve tried the below and wasn’t keen for various reasons:
St Tropez drops (not keen on drops in general)
Bondi Sands gradual tan (had to use lots to see it show)
St Moritz gradual tan (too orangey for me)

Any reccs?

Recc' Request In search of a good high street waterproof brown mascara

It seems so many brands only make black waterproof mascara! I know it’s a small difference but I’d love to find a good waterproof brown mascara. Sometimes black looks a little too much on me for the daytime, and I prefer waterproof formulas for holding a curl. The only version I’ve found so far is Dior and I can’t justify £35+ on a mascara when I’m replacing it so regularly. Recommendations welcome please!

Hourglass and Mac Makeup brushes

Hi everyone! What are some of the best makeup brushes from Mac and hourglass. I’m looking to build my whole makeup brushes collection and I feel like these two will last a while. Please give any suggestions especially for foundation, concealer and blush.
