My 4th grade teacher was one of the semi finalists for the Challenger mission. Since she didn't win she threw a pizza party for us and wheeled in a TV so we could all watch the launch.
As long as I live I'll never forget the look on her face when the explosion happened, and how most of the class burst into tears while eating. She passed away about 12 years ago, and there were at least 15 kids from her class at the funeral. RIP, Mrs S.
