Teacher pay varies dramatically by state. In many states they are underpaid, but there are a lot of states where pay is quite generous. I say this because I think it's good for people to not rule out becoming teachers, when there are good options out there if your location is flexible.

Edit: I will add, though, that teachers being underappreciated can happen anywhere. Even where pay is good.

Teachers here in Australia earn over $130k/year and they are still happily riding this wave of "poor underpaid teachers" sentiment

Depends on where and how long.

One of my friends is a pretty good math teacher and he's on <90.

If you're willing to live in Alice Springs maybe 110?

https://education.nsw.gov.au/teach-nsw/explore-teaching/salary-of-a-teacher#Comparison0

In NSW, teachers graduate on $93k, and this increases every year reaching $104k after 3 years and proficient accreditation, and $133k after 6 years.

My partner is a teacher here in a mid sized city in NSW (not remote) and earning $133k.
