No, wait, we should be heartened that there is yet charity in our world. People are still kind, on purpose, and maybe "society" isn't, but people of high status have always been unfeeling toward the needs of the lower-class.
Those on the bottom look out for each other, and when helping out is costly we still do it.

I don’t know about anyone else, but this doesn’t make me smile. It just makes me angry that teachers are so underpaid and underappreciated.
