I was the kid who ate margarine and food bank noodles or mayo sandwiches because I had no other options. I NEVER complained about free food, and still don't.

I lose a small amount of respect for someone whenever they complain about something they got for free, especially food

How often does that happen? Also is it like seriously complaining or just saying "this sample of chicken at the mall food court isn't great"? Trying to think of situations where I would even have the opportunity to complain about free food lol. Also depends on the context I guess, like I might complain if my boss tried to "reward" us with food and it was some cheap garbage🤷‍♂️

Someone buying food for their friend and the friend complaining, getting food for a homeless person and them complaining, getting someone a gift and them complaining, doing a favor for someone and them complaining

Yes obviously it depends on the context, like most things there is nuance
