He looks kinda normal and not ugly. Sure, he doesn't have much fashion sense which would go long way for average dude. But he isn't actually ugly.

31

u/Southern_Clerk8697 6d ago

At best he is a below average looking dude

2

u/Yellowmellowbelly 5d ago

Oh he’s definitely ugly by Swedish standards

33

u/International-Bad-84 6d ago

Very few people are actually ugly, but chronic under grooming can do a decent impression.

Sounds cold, I know, but spread the word because it's one of the most insidious forms of classism, but also one that is relatively easy to combat if you know about it.

10

u/The_Dancing_Cow 6d ago

And grooming doesn't even need to be laborious or expensive!

Wash and moisturize face before bed, and put on sunscreen if leaving the house (at least your face).

Learn to trim your hair twice a year (or get somebody to do it for you), brush your teeth daily (best before bed so your mouth doesn't fester overnight).

Then just shower regularly (which includes shampoo, conditioner, and body wash/bar) and wear clean clothes (can be thrifted).

I think the thing that does the most heavy lifting outside of those things is your lifestyle. If you eat decently healthy foods, increase your activity, get enough sleep, and avoid abusing drugs you'll look more healthy which people generally equate with attractiveness.

u/askmewhyihateyou 1d ago

Once I started putting lotion on my face daily, the change was so noticeable and quick

1

u/After-Regret-6609 6d ago

And poor health. Being attractive is usually just an indication you are fit. If you are fit, someone will find you to be exactly their type.

1

u/forworse2020 5d ago

This is very true. I'm intrigued that she didn't seem to influence this much over the course of their relationship either. It really was "as you are" for her, which is kind of lovely

1

u/Itscatpicstime 4d ago

This guy is ungroomed even in his wedding photos ffs

1

u/tzaeru 2d ago

Wait til' you see me.

I am chronically undergroomed and I look fabulous. 💅

62

u/Zuradrop 6d ago

“Yeah I’m pretty ugly.”

“No, you look unique/“normal”/it’s just your grooming/just be confident.”

Yes he’s an ugly guy, no that’s not a bad thing.
call a spade a spade.

11

u/TheThirdReckoning 6d ago

I'm an ugly dude along the same level as this guy and managed to find a guy (who is constantly hit on while I'm not 😂) who I've married and we have a great life together.

I like to think that the people who say he's not ugly is less shallow than I am, like my husband!

1

u/AnAnGrYSupportV2 6d ago

I'm in your situation - the married part. How do you/ did you deal with being the more unattractive one? It kills me a little on the inside when I see so many people be super into my bf while I get little to no attention. And then you feel guilty because you should be happy for your partner. Fucking sucks.

2

u/TheThirdReckoning 5d ago edited 5d ago

Different thought process.

At first I was insecure about the attention he got, so I talked to him and he bolstered my confidence. He said while he can't stop it from happening, he will always reject these advances as he loves me and doesn't want anyone else.

For me, I needed that assurance from him since a lot of guys (and quite a few women) will hit on him who are far more good looking than I am and I've been cheated on really fucking badly in the past from an ex in similar circumstances.

Communication is what stopped my jealously, essentially.

1

u/StopFalseReporting 20h ago

My boyfriend is hotter than me. I’m not like hideous but I think he’s better looking than me. I’m a woman though lol. Mostly women are sneaky and hit on him when I’m not around or walk away for a moment, so that kind of helps for me because I don’t have to witness it at least. I only know because he tells me afterwards. But I believe him because he’s 6’6” and stunning. If you make someone feel trapped they will want to escape more. Don’t make them feel chained to you. I don’t make my boyfriend behave. He makes himself behave. That’s his own job. It’s not his fault for being cute but he doesn’t have to respond inappropriately.

0

u/Successful_Buffalo_6 6d ago

That's your opinion. It's not an objective truth.

3

u/goldtrainkappa 5d ago

Come on mate look at his wedding picture dude is clearly ugly and also gives no shits about his appearance

7

u/Goonalips 6d ago

When compared against modern beauty standards, and against the average looking person, he definitely is ugly. Why is it so hard to just tell the truth. He knows it to be true. We know it to be true. We don't need to lie. She found him cute regardless of those standards, and he has many other positive attributes that make him worth much more than his attractiveness. Some of us are just ugly, and that's okay. That's life.

1

u/AgentEvil 6d ago

Seeing stuff like this makes me so sad, cause you’re basically doubling down on being acknowledge as ugly, but you’re basically just shitting on someone who finds you attractive ie like this story.

Its something I find so concerning among people now, that they are so convinced they need to put themselves in a box. Why would you wanna date someone you think is cute, but all they can talk about is being ugly.

-2

u/Successful_Buffalo_6 6d ago

When compared against modern beauty standards, and against the average looking person, he definitely is ugly.

yeah, that‘s your opinion, and you’re entitled to it.

7

u/Goonalips 6d ago

It's the opinion of the majority, because that's how beauty standards work. We can sit here and pretend that those standards don't exist, and pretend that most people don't agree on who is attractive or not, or we can sit here and pretend that personal opinion is the only thing that matters. But personal opinion does not dictate reality. It only dictates your reality. Do you think he'd be hired to be a model? No, of course not, because you do agree that he's not attractive, but you're too scared to tell the truth and say that he is ugly because that feels mean to you.

This toxic positivity mindset just lies to people. Next you're going to tell me that Mitch McConnell is attractive.

4

u/xxDoublezeroxx 6d ago

But it’s still not objective truth. Mitch Mcconnell has 3 kids and had two wives so clearly some people found him attractive. This man called himself ugly but clearly someone found him attractive. Like OP said, it’s just an opinion

4

u/Goonalips 6d ago

I feel like you guys are purposely missing the point. We're comparing personal opinion, to modern beauty standards. Personal opinion does not make something a reality. People can marry for money, power, ego, reputation. So him being married is not really relevant. Beauty standards are a democratic process. We, as a whole, have agreed that beauty standards are a thing. We can all agree that Mitch McConnell would not win any beauty contests. If we asked 10,000 people to say whether he's ugly or attractive, those 10,000 people would heavily land on ugly.

We can all point to a car, and agree that it's a car, because we all agree on a definition. You saying it's a tree doesn't make your opinion factual. Opinion is opinion. It's only relevant to you. Sexual selectivity has evolved for hundreds of thousands of years to where we can agree that on a biological level, something is either attractive, or ugly. Your opinion may differ, but society in general will tend to agree on one, because we're biologically hardwired to notice those traits. Those traits dictate beauty standards.

Looking at him, his hair is thin and straw like. His face is not in proportion. It's assymetrical. His lips are larger than most people's. He's very light skinned, to the point of being too pale. He has very poor teeth. His jaw is misshapen. He can't even smile. His eyes are quite small, and beady. And he is tall and gangly.

We've to come to a point where you're ignoring all those traits, in order to appeal to personal opinion, which is the weakest proof because it only takes one outlier for it to be true. You're literally denying reality in order to make yourself feel better by not just telling the truth.

2

u/Successful_Buffalo_6 6d ago edited 6d ago

We had a parent-teacher conference at my kid’s school recently, and his literacy teacher told us that his chief goal this term is to teach his kids to grasp the difference between a fact and a non-fact. Because learning that difference between a fact and an opinion is essential to reading comprehension, critical thinking, and media literacy.

I understand the sense of urgency now.

But you are absolutely right: “Personal opinion does not make something a reality.”

2

u/xxDoublezeroxx 6d ago

Your examples don’t make sense because there is a definition for a car. There is a definition for a tree. Someone pointing to a car and saying it’s a tree isn’t subjectively wrong, it’s objectively wrong.

There is nothing objective about beauty standards. We all agree they exist, where the line for “ugly” is, however, is entirely up to each individual person. Do I think he’s attractive? No. Do I think he’s ugly? Also no. I bet I could pull 10,000 people and have the majority of the people say the same.

That’s what me and OP are arguing. Your reality is not everyone’s reality. I put money down that if he got a haircut and changed his style, most people would say he’s eh/ moderately unattractive.

Unfortunately though, no way of knowing, because, again, these are only subjective statements based around our opinions

2

u/Goonalips 6d ago

There is nothing objective about beauty standards. We all agree they exist.

There are many objective metrics that we use to determine whether someone is likely to be ugly or not. Symmetry is one. Visible health conditions. Health of hair. Health of teeth. Abnormal bone structure. Facial features that are abnormal. Muscle mass or lack of it. Height. Weight. Etc.

Unfortunately for him, many of his traits are way outside of the norm. He has an abnormal facial structure. He has thinning and unkempt hair. He has large facial features. Here's what he said about himself:

"His teeth were messed up, he had to push his jaws forward all the time because his jaws were so recessed into his neck, it was almost invisible. His forehead was so big he had to grow his hair and wear a black cap just to cover it. He had an extremely loose skin because he was overweight as a kid that made him look like he was wearing a baggy skin suit that didn’t fit. His had a hunched posture due to sitting too much, and his nose was too bulky, and his lower lip was way bigger than his upper lip."

I'm sorry, but if he's not ugly, then nobody is ugly.

Do I think he’s attractive? No. Do I think he’s ugly? Also no.

If someone isn't attractive, then they're unattractive.

I bet I could pull 10,000 people and have the majority of the people redsay the same.

Oh, so now there's a line that everyone agrees with? And it just at happens to align with your opinion of whether or not he's ugly? First it's opinion only. Then beauty standards exist but we all disagree on the line. And now you're sure where that line is, and you know everyone will agree.

u/Rare_Ad_674 6d ago

We know that beauty standards are literally MADE UP by the beauty industry to sell shit, dude.

Which is how we know "ugly" is not an objective truth. A bunch of idiots falling for the beauty industry's rampant capitalization on insecurities don't get to decide that they know what's "actually" attractive and what isn't.

It's funny how many people think they just find certain features "personally attractive" without realizing that if they weren't under the influence of an entire system built to make people feel bad about imagined "flaws", they would see beauty much differently.

You're looking at beauty through the industry's fucked up lens. You don't have to do that.

1

u/Fidodo 6d ago

It's the opinion of the beauty industry and social media influencers. Get off the internet, go to your grocery store, and look at people. The average person is not up to the standard of an industry that promotes beauty.

There's toxic positivity, but there's also internet induced disconnect with reality.

1

u/Successful_Buffalo_6 6d ago

I’m sorry that you’re struggling with this—seems like something you brood over a lot, but the existence of beauty standards and your deep investment in them has nothing to do with what I've said. Your POV on whether or not someone is ugly or not will always be just that--an opinion.

I’m not here to share my opinions on whether or not Mitch McConnell is attractive or not, but I imagine someone, somewhere believes that he is.

1

u/Goonalips 6d ago

I’m sorry that you’re struggling with this—seems like something you brood over a lot, but the existence of beauty standards and your deep investment in them

Why do you do this? You start to try and gaslight and manipulate my emotions, when your argument isn't going as well as you hoped. I've very clearly accepted the facts of life, while you're the one that is ignoring them in place of personal perception. Someone is struggling here, and it's obviously not me. Your emotions dictate how you treat people, based on what you can get out of it. It made you feel like a good person to ignore that they're ugly. But now that you don't like that you're losing the argument, you're turning your emotions against me. This is why opinion is not a good form of determining facts.

I'm not here to argue whether Mitch McConnell is attractive or not, but I imagine someone, somewhere believes that he is.

See, you very clearly agree that he is not attractive, because you imply that it's a very hard and improbable process to find someone that agrees with it. You do recognise that beauty standards exist, and that human consensus exists, but you don't like admitting that humans as a group form a consensus, because that consensus might hurt your feelings.

0

u/Successful_Buffalo_6 6d ago

You have been going in on me and others, writing essays basically calling us liars and purveyors of “toxic positivity” for pointing out that a judgment of someone’s looks is an opinion as opposed to a fact, regardless of societal beauty standards and consensus.

I do not understand why this has shaken you this much, and I am genuinely baffled as to why my opinion of anyone’s looks matters to you so much that you would accuse me of “manipulating” you for not sharing it. It's a moot point, but if it's that important to you, my opinion of Mitch McConnell is that he is hideous, both inside and out. Does that make you feel better? I do hope so!

Just keep in mind that my opinion of Mitch McConnell or any other motherfuker is just THAT: an opinion. It will never be an objective fact. That's not an argument that can be lost. Sorry.

0

u/Fidodo 6d ago

What beauty standards? Random people on the street of the people on your instagram feed? If I look at random people on the street, he's about average for a lot of the world.

1

u/Zuradrop 6d ago

The subject in question is also calling themselves ugly.
You can do it without any form of self deprecation just like I’m saying he’s ugly without being mean.
But being too ugly for love?
That’s a stretch, and so even if he’s been proven wrong: he can still look in the mirror and go “man in ugly but I got a wife now so.”

4

u/Successful_Buffalo_6 6d ago

It's not about meanness. My point is that you can call him ugly all day, and he can follow suit—that does not make his “ugliness” an objective fact. It's an opinion, and one that not everyone will agree with.

0

u/illmatic63828 6d ago

It is an opinion that the vast majority of people would agree with, so what you’re saying is kind of a moot point but it feels like you just want to argue about it.

2

u/Successful_Buffalo_6 6d ago

But it is still an opinion—not an objective truth, which is exactly my point.

1

u/MaxHeadroom1986 6d ago

dudes ugly on the outside but Dixie Lynn on the inside <3

1

u/deathbychips2 6d ago

He is significantly uglier because of his styling though

Can someone tell me what the fuck is going on today? Reddit (my feed) is just overwhelmed this decency posts and actual humans being humans shit.

Something is DEF going on. Midterm? Being overpriced to a point where they think we about to get violent, some try doomsday shit they about to announce so they tea trying to get our spirits up?

All of the above? What the fuck man.

TLDR: Dude is not ugly, I’ve seen far “uglier” than him pull dimes, marry them and have a great life. Hope you guys are great and have a great life but something’s DEF up. Peace!

1

u/No_Artichoke_2931 6d ago

Can I say he looks "goofy", but not at all ugly? Kinda got an Outdoor Boys face.

1

u/Solid-Version 6d ago

Let’s be real. He ugly. But that doesn’t mean he has less value in this world

1

u/CuteViking 6d ago

You haven’t watched his video

1

u/BrennanSpeaks 6d ago

Body dysmorphia disorder is a thing.  What we see might not be what he sees in the mirror.

1

u/Tom_Gibson 6d ago

Ugly people exist and that's okay. He's ugly. I linked a photo of him

https://www.relrules.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/resize-1.png

1

u/drankleanonce 6d ago

he looks “kinda” normal.. you don’t even seem sure just proves the point

1

u/Fidodo 6d ago

I think these photos do him dirty. I looked up his youtube to see what he looks like normally and while I'd say he's a bit below average, he's definitely not ugly, and honestly not that bad. And I'd say his wife is a little above average but not amazingly beautify or anything. https://i.imgur.com/924lY5n.png

Some of the comments here are pretty awful. He's in the range of normal, he just had low confidence, probably because of all the assholes like some of the people in this comment section.

I know people who look worse than him with better looking spouses in both directions. Yes there are a lot of superficial people out there, but there definitely are tons and tons of non superficial people, but those kinds of people tend to not be all over social media. Social media and dating apps self select for them. And if your relationship is based on superficial stuff it won't be as happy as two ugly but genuinely sweet people who love each other.

1

u/Lepelotonfromager 6d ago

Nah, he's ugly.

I don't mean that it in a harsh way but aesthetically speaking he is.

1

u/seraph741 6d ago

Really? He's not hideous, but definitely way below average. I think ugly is fair.

1

u/Everesthia 6d ago

he looks nerdy and the girl is obviously too sweet and beautiful, idk what she sees from a guy she saw on youtube to actually met up and not only being nice on the comment.

1

u/N4m3r 6d ago

As an "average dude" at best, the guy is not average. Beauty is subjective, but ugliness isnt.

1

u/goldtrainkappa 5d ago

Nah he's ugly as shit, unkempt and scrawny. Like he makes no effort to dress neatly for his gf lol

1

u/Cuntonesian 5d ago

If this was the UK you’d be right, but by Swedish standards he’s actually pretty fucking ugly

1

u/fragtore 4d ago

I would say below average but if he dressed better and worked out some he’d be ok. It’s a lot about the posture/expression/clothing with this guy

1

u/Old_Recording_2527 4d ago

Get your eyes checked. His fashion sense is fine, he is legitimately deformed. You can tell by the different angles.

He is that 1% that won't be fixed with grooming and clothes.

1

u/IntenselySwedish 3d ago

Yeah, idk about ugly. If he got a haircut, some better-fitting clothes, better-designed glasses for his face, and some skincare, he'd be Gucci.

Seemingly, his personality is great - that's the one thing you actually can't change.

1

u/NiixxJr 2d ago

It's okay for some people to be ugly. That's how the world works. Some people are smart, some are dumb. Some are attractive, some are ugly.

Denying this guy is ugly is actually denying his struggle, in a way.

1

u/cpwnage 2d ago

No he is definitely ugly, but it's because of his teeth/jaw, which he doesn't care doing anything about.
