Use more of the Topps integration and have the new team captain cards as the Home Field Advantage inserts. Would be another cool tie in to real life Topps products and could even help sell packs or single cards for new collectors.

If I remember correctly(which is a big if) it’s because they said they wanted to prevent people from having to grind the team affinity 4 times a year or something, which could just be an excuse to not have to make it so many times but that’s what I thought they said

Not that I remember but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s for balance and content release reasons. They make more money plus players won’t be playing the same cards if captains just aren’t absurdly broken like last year.

Captains weren’t broken though: having a switch hitting captain was.

If SDS had a single employee who was above 300 rated, they’d have known a switch hitting captain and the Trevor Hoffman captain were both absurdly OP, but alas, since everyone employed at SDS has the total equivalent IQ as a pile of rocks, their solution was to nuke them all instead of balance them properly.

They should’ve made the captain cards’ attributes increase more than other cards when they paralleled, so they eventually maxed at 95 or 99 or whatever. Or just increase all attributes as the season progressed to keep up with the OVR of other cards being released.

Except with parallel mods, captains can easily make cards super broken and unbalanced. Every card would have max/almost maxed out contact and power plus 20 speed because everyone will just add a speed mod to everyone while captains add +6 to everything else. I can see them wanting to go in a direction that allows players to just use their favorite players and not meta out their teams abusing captains. It’s a video game and they’re meant to be fun. That being said I think their balance team is atrocious. Instead of fixing PCI shrinkage they’re just mass releasing switch hitters to not deal with it

Ngl I completely forgot captains were even a thing till just now. Lol I think my captains have been the negro league since launch. Lol I gotta look at what options I have now when I play later. Lol thanks for reminding me they exist.
