The current state of hysteria
I don’t recall a day both Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher were crying together. Each time City scored, their voice choked. Peter Drury lost his mojo. All they could talk about was whether these goals would matter. On the states side, Tim Howard got offended by the smiles of our players, staff, and fans. Reddit is in total meltdown.
I knew football is a tribal affair, but the degree of hatred and animosity from all sides is unimaginable. Not a single media outlet or commentator is asking the critical questions, “What was the original intention behind FFP? How come they didn’t worry when certain owners took £1b+ loan against the club?”

Yeah. It was suck a joke. The amount of pearl clutching in the most corrupt sport in the world was amazing.

Whatever sells like hotcakes. Few months back it was Infantino trying to sell FIFA.
27
u/IvarSturla 2d ago
Theyve dug themselves into this hole - everything was about City and the guilty verdict every single article and talk show and now all they can think about is city to the point they're saying the games are meaningless.
2
u/the_dalai_mangala 2d ago
The emotion will run hot for a few weeks. If it continues do not be surprised to see people become more sympathetic to City.

Brilliant, if theres one thing ive learned over the last 26yrs supporting City its that England LOVES a scandal. The tabloids, gossip columns, the go around on the rumor mill. Just look at the exposure that so called journos get during the transfer windows, aka silly season, reporting absolute nonsense. This is just the next big overblown hypocritical non story to sell clicks and papers. CTID

u/Direct-Tennis9682 2d ago
This country is full of attention seekers and journalist hacks, who all love sensationalism.
5
u/srbtiger5 2d ago
It really does feel like the most English scandal of all time. The reaction seems so overblown for what actually happened.
1
u/Junior-Suggestion746 2d ago
Its absolutely mental. The domino effect of the club's saying we stole from them is ridiculous, something ive not seen anyone mention is all the quality academy lads we sent out on loan. By default if all our accomplishments mean fuckall then everything the loaned out players did should be crossed out aswell, let's take away every goal they scored/saved etc. Let's take away grealishes potm award last season at Everton while we're at it.

u/waveofthehandsWEAVER 2d ago
This whole “oh Chelsea self reported” BS while the current owners still do stuff like sell hotels to themselves etc is a microcosm on how this has all lost nuance. No one talks about Juve or Chelsea or any of the scandals many of the clubs have had. Least of Which the top three red clubs trying to actually ruin football 4 years ago with the super league. It’s only because we are winning and are good and remind them all that’s it’s not our money why they are shit. It’s their poorly run shit private equity American firms that’s the problem. They are for profit, our owners are for success. It literally has become as simple as that.
20
u/PissedOffPuffins 2d ago edited 2d ago
Juve legitimately match fixed and barely anyone talks about it. Just like Marseille too.
3
u/appelsenpere 2d ago
Stripped of their titles, relegated and everyone spoke about it. But it happened 20years ago.
11
u/Deah21 2d ago
The thing about Chelsea is, if both clubs played by same rules, back in 2011 Roman would just get them totally-legit-not-suspicious-200-million-a-year Gazprom sponsorship and club would probably not fall off the way it did after ffp got implemented
3
u/persiangriffin 2d ago
Chelsea after FFP and before Clearlake won 2 champions leagues, 2 league titles, 2 FA Cups and I think 3 league cups, plus 2 europa Leagues. Compare with City who won 6 league titles, 2 FA Cups, and 6 league Cups in that timespan. Chelsea falling off was due to mismanagement under Boehly and Clearlake, not FFP
2
u/Deah21 2d ago edited 2d ago
Both Chelsea CL wins they were underdogs, likewise title won by Conte. I'm not saying it's not capable team, but since early 2010s you can't call it a football giant they absolutely were before. If anything it's because Abramovich mismanagement, the only point I'm making here here is that before ffp his mismanagement wasn't an issue since he just covered it by throwing more money at the team. Chelsea had everything to build what City has today except actually competent owner and "legal" source of unlimited money

u/mast3rcommand3r1234 2d ago
Tim Howard is a Buffoon through and through… what does he want the players to just sit on the field and not play??? If they score, does he want them to break down and cry? Absolute clown
16
u/calurbanist 2d ago
American fan/viewer here … how he can be so unable to put himself in the heads of players after having played at an elite level for so long … it boggles the mind.
20
u/mast3rcommand3r1234 2d ago
I’m also American viewer/fan and was thinking the same thing watching him make an absolute fool of himself…. “Why are they smiling?” Maybe bc they all just scored ridiculous goals at a hostile environment and want to be happy about that?!

People are saying they are going to stop watching the premier league all together. LMFAO all because it's been found that money came from point A rather than point B
17
u/peps-bald-head 2d ago
Same people that spend their time saying about how City have no real "fans" and are all plastics are saying they will stop watching football/their club/will find another club to watch in another league is the most plastic thing i've ever seen.
Seen people that support Liverpool, United, Arsenal etc saying if they were owned by a gulf state they'd stop watching their games and support their local team, which is ironic given they see themselves as "proper fans" yet willing to turn their back on their club over who owns them.
Won't even get started on the ones on Twitter/Reddit that are "proper die hard fans" of a big 6 club in all of the top 5 leagues that post "i'm done with this team y'all, i'm supporting someone else/not watching anymore" who are weirdly always the ones making comments about empty seats, plastics, glory hunters etc
I wish they'd just be honest and admit they want the Premier League to go back to their glory days of United, Arsenal and Liverpool being the only teams that share silverware every year whilst stifling clubs that try to compete by hoovering up all of their best players to sit on their benches.

u/farhantdm556 2d ago
Honestly the only ones that are ruining the EPL are the other big clubs themselves, City has shown time and time again theyre not afraid to face other clubs on equal footing, meanwhile the likes of Arsenal, United, and Liverpool are, but they won't admit it. FFP has constantly protected them from other clubs becoming a threat to them, and the likes of United and Liverpool are losing there football identity. They know the moment the likes of Leeds, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, etc get a equal footing in club finances there clubs will become midtable against clubs that actually care about building there teams.

u/johnny_moist 2d ago
the lengths you lot will go to just not admit your club cheated is wild
2
u/Junior-Suggestion746 2d ago
No, I think we just dont give a fuck. Yeah we "cheated" but if the goal posts are getting changed at half time then what do you expect
1
u/johnny_moist 2d ago
what does that even mean
1
u/Junior-Suggestion746 2d ago edited 1d ago
Well for 21 years in the prem everyone could spend what they wanted. City start becoming a threat and all of a sudden ffp gets introduced. And no, before you say it, we didn't agree to ffp
1
u/johnny_moist 1d ago
You realize you are still justifying cheating right?
1
u/Junior-Suggestion746 1d ago
I get your point that theres rules and we broke them, therefore we are cheats.
The way I see it is there never used to be a financial rule until we started becoming a threat. To me it looks alot like the financial rule was put in place to specifically stop city in our tracks at that time, and any other club that would dare dream of catching up with utd, Liverpool or arsenal in the years after.
Football is a game, the premier league is the game board. The premier league literally changed their rules mid game to protect the guys that were already ahead. Is that fair? Is that not some form of cheating in itself?
59
u/mphs2step 2d ago
The amount of delusion out there is unbelievable. I actually saw multiple comments calling for City to be dissolved, because it isn’t fair. I don’t recall seeing any complaints about other owners spending money on their team. Why is it only a problem when City’s owner spends money? I don’t see any complaints about United being more than £1 billion in debt and nearly £400 million in unpaid transfer fees. Since they can’t pay for their players, maybe United should be dissolved since it isn’t fair to other clubs.
I am so over hearing the complaints and gnashing of teeth from fans of these other clubs. They couldn’t beat us on the pitch and are so mad that we upset their apple cart that now they want to get rid of us while ignoring the financial wrongdoing at their own clubs. I think we should parade all our trophies in front of the team at every game for the rest of the season Just to rub their noses in the fact that they are inferior.
13
u/Karma_Whoring_Slut 2d ago
The ultimate irony in the meltdown is that these rules are meant to protect clubs from being destroyed.
Destroying a club that is prospering, and was never in any sort of financial danger, while pretending the rules were for our benefit is an outrageous position.
I also saw some comments blaming city that Leicester lost all their talent after their fairy tale season. As if Leicester hadn’t broken FFP to acquire that squad.
5
u/horseaphoenix 2d ago
It was never about fairness or financial sustainability. The rules were put in to prevent another Chelsea from being formed.
As the Premier League became more commercialized, any multi-year success would fast track a team into a revenue machine with the publicity they enjoy from it. Chelsea were able to catch up to the G14 extremely quickly, surpassing around half of them even.
This would massively cut into the slice that top teams were prospecting with the commercialization of the Prem. Although they would have had to break the same rules implemented to get to their positions as well.
It’s the same as almost everything us Europeans do honestly. We enjoy slavery and coal to build our riches, and then ban the same practices for our “allies”. I know that rules and laws are there for a reason but let’s not pretend we didn’t pull the ladder up behind us with these types of legislations.
-1
u/Formal_Obligation837 1d ago
The ultimate ultimate irony is watching city fans complain about the restrictive nature of the financial rules now they have been caught breaching them.
When Villa and Newcastle fans complained, City fans were part of the cabal shouting down those complaints, saying those clubs should grow organically, as city have, over a number of years.
2
u/Karma_Whoring_Slut 1d ago
City fans have been complaining about FFP since its inception, since it was always clear that the rules were made specifically in an attempt to stop us from growing.
I never saw any of this. But, we aren’t a collective hivemind. I certainly never participated in it. I’ve been complaining about FFP for over a decade.
-1
u/Formal_Obligation837 1d ago
City fans have absolutely been part of the big 6 kicking down on fans of the other 14. Hopefully this situation is the catalyst for a change in the rules.
1
u/Karma_Whoring_Slut 1d ago
I haven’t seen it. Although, I suspect our ownership were beginning to believe that FFP was a net positive for us.
4
u/PissedOffPuffins 2d ago
Speaking of unfair as I was writing a story on spending in football. In 2017 ManU had a wage budget nearly 600% that of Bournemouth’s entire income. If my mad wasn’t wrong at least
1
u/elpingwinho 2d ago
Yeah. After the verdict I was firmly in the “we broke the rules so punish us” camp, but the vitriol poured over me in the last three weeks has made me more defensive than ever. Fuck then and fuck their rules, let them cry
0
u/Dr_Deathcore_ 2d ago
What do you mean? People have been complaining about Chelsea’s spending for years.

People have been LAUGHING about Chelsea’s spending for years. Just because you CAN buy a player doesn’t mean you should.

No people definitely complained during the Ibramovich era. Calling them Chelski and Cheatskea.

u/johnny_moist 2d ago
Difference is Chelsea actually sells out their games
5
u/TheRealDENNISSystem 2d ago
They sell out their games because all the tourists in London want to see EPL games and Stamford Bridge is cheaper than Arsenal and Tottenham.
2
-5
u/Comfortable-Set-63 2d ago
They also didn’t funnel money into the club through fake sponsorships, but these are small differences
4
u/Karma_Whoring_Slut 2d ago
Well, they actually did. So, there’s that.
-1
2
u/Bexob 2d ago
Well, they had 70 charges for something. You realise that's only 10 less than City, right? 35/115 charges are just "refusal to cooperate". Chelsea did cooperate. So it's 80 vs 70. Not that much of a difference.
What did Chelsea even need those breaches for? They didn't have to do what City did. They just pumped money into the club for fun. And then the other big clubs didn't like it and made up rule to forbid other clubs from doing he same. And that's why it's "cheating" now. But City have literally done nothing Chelsea haven't done.
1
u/Comfortable-Set-63 2d ago
They were charged with undisclosed payments to agents and other third parties, not faking sponsorship income. If City were only found to be doing this, and nothing else, the situation would be very different. City over represented income from sponsorships by almost £1B. Chelsea proved in the appeal that they wouldn’t have broken FFP if the undisclosed fees were reported.
Also, comparing by number of charges is absurd, since not all charges are equal. Is 1 murder charge better than 10 fraud charges?
0
u/ianishomer 2d ago
This is what annoys me, OK we broke the rules, but there is no way that the other top clubs arent breaking or bending the rules, they just haven't been caught, yet.
For me, if City could show that the other top 5/6 clubs are breaking the rules and present that to the Premier league, what would they do, relegate the top 6 in the league, deduct then all 40 points?
-4
u/appelsenpere 2d ago
I think the point you are missing is they didn’t lie about where the money came from.
36
u/eckrueger 2d ago
I understand if everyone hates City, but you can’t blame the players today acting different because of something that happened years ago when they mostly weren’t even on the team
25
u/ezkirb 2d ago
To be more precise, there wasn’t a single player on the pitch in a blue shirt that was at the club in 2018.
8
u/Winkofgibbs 2d ago
True. Not fair to them. I think the argument is that they wouldn’t be on the team now without the success then. Questionable argument but one I’ve heard a lot. Still not fair to the players on the pitch
1
u/Junior-Suggestion746 2d ago
Thats a fair argument I suppose but how far do you go with that? What about all the talent we've produced from our academy thats running around for other clubs like Palmer, delap, lavia, sancho. The list of those players is huge. Would we of been able to produce these players without our success?
1
u/Winkofgibbs 1d ago
I think it’s a questionable “but for” argument for sure. That said, City hadn’t won a trophy in more than 30 years and had several relegations- going to third tier at one point. Jumping from that to dominating the PL is quite impressive- weirdly so in the view of many. Certainly an argument for correlation at the very least. Players don’t gravitate to risky teams.
-5
u/Remote-Shallot5598 2d ago
Well let’s be honest, who’s to say City hasn’t been cooking the books from 2018 to 2026? The evidence put forward for this case was just for that time period. It’s very unlikely City just stopped pumping hundreds of millions each year into the club in 2018. If anything, looking at the trend for that time period, it’s probably worse today. Of course this is all just speculation. But c’mon, it’s probably true.
8
u/ezkirb 2d ago
If we’re speculating who’s to say any of the other clubs are playing by the rules, and aren’t one disgruntled former employee or a hacker sharing insider info away from suffering the same fate? Whatever mechanism the league used to keep this crap in check clearly wasn’t working and I’d imagine things have changed for everyone since the charges dropped.
1
u/Remote-Shallot5598 1d ago
Yeah you’re 100% correct. I can guarantee City aren’t the only ones. The whole system is broken. There’s definitely incompetence, but probably also corruption. I’d imagine all the big teams are guilty of something.
Obviously City are the focus of it currently.
4
u/srbtiger5 2d ago
This club has been under the microscope for 18 years. If the PL is still greenlighting shady deals then at this point that's on them.
1
u/Remote-Shallot5598 1d ago
Oh 100%, the PL need to do a much better job at keeping all this under control. Theres without a shadow of a doubt other teams doing shady stuff. It’s just that City is currently the focus because of the leaked emails from the hack bringing it to light
1
u/Remote-Shallot5598 1d ago
People downvoting me for just stating the obvious?
Some City fans clearly triggered.I’m not saying City are the only team cheating. There’s lots of corruption in football, pretty much from all the big teams. It just so happens City is the team that has currently been caught out
6
u/Winkofgibbs 2d ago
As a Villa fan- we aren’t Lilly White and I agree with your general sentiment. I think the arguments are based on a long causal chain from then to now- whether fair or not. I think a lot of others think the assertion it all ended in 2018 is suspect because everything after that wasn’t investigated. Neither are fair arguments at this point. I think the biggest reason City is getting decimated in the public sphere is twofold: years of deception and who owns the club. People loathe LIV for the latter reason and if Newcastle ever reaches the pinnacle of City they will get similar vibes.
The system is broken regardless- and nobody knows that more than Villa.
19
u/domalino 2d ago
I genuinely think in 30 years time people will look back at the FFP era and wonder how the fuck a few owners managed to convince football fans this was fair.
36 years of the premier league and only 3 clubs have won in a way that didn’t or wouldn’t break FFP.
And the worst part is getting told it’s about fairness. Platini admitted he brought it in because 3 billionaire owners asked him to, the PL argued in court that the system wasn’t supposed to be fair, and yet we’re still supposed to believe it creates a level playing field.
5
u/Winkofgibbs 2d ago
Zero arguments from me. I’m hoping this is an impetus for revamping the system. It obviously can’t be a free for all or state owned teams with endless $ will just replace the system with no difference. Teams like Villa would also benefit but that’s not a great way to do it either. Not sure how to do it with the best risk benefit (all systems will have flaws) but I’m sure there are some smart disinterested (no conflicts) people that can get together and draw it up
5
u/domalino 2d ago
The thing is it would actually be really easy to create a system that had a level playing field if they wanted to.
People always say we can’t have a salary cap because other leagues don’t - it’s a complete red herring. The average salary in the PL is 2x the closest other league, we’re already spending 1.5B more than them a year on wages, so it’s like the NBA saying they can’t bring in a salary cap because Eurobasket would steal their players.
And that gap is growing exponentially. I saw a post breaking this down the other day, by 2030 the average PL salary is going to be 3x Bundesliga the closest rival. Letting owners put more money in isn’t going to give Spanish or German teams more money to spend on wages.
1
-2
u/PissedOffPuffins 2d ago
A salary cap based on revenue perhaps? Mostly clubs, at least the big ones, don’t spend more than 65% of their revenue on salaries, but you could lower that percentage. Kinda creates a similar problem as current FFP tho
2
u/mossgato 2d ago
The whole point is basing limits on past revenue per club just reinforces the current hierarchy.
0
u/Deah21 2d ago
To be fair not a single sane person believes it's not still happening, but that's beside the point
1
u/eckrueger 2d ago
I can imagine a world where the charges were announced and they had already “made it” so they stopped. But I can definitely imagine any organization with lots money doing shady things.
35
u/Chance_Camera_ 2d ago
The damage will be devastating when City’s found not guilty by a competent court.
12
u/Deah21 2d ago
If somehow City's found not guilty everyone will just call it bribes and political threats, it won't really change anything
6
1
u/childoferis1025 2d ago
Nah it will change something because then the so called FFP system dies in at most a few years if that
12
u/Fit-Nothing-3782 2d ago
Yeah lol, imagine the court ruling the evidence as dismissible due to it being obtained from that hacker...mass hysteria at the red cartel...
11
u/Aggravating_Cause195 2d ago
Unfortunately not gonna happen in a UK court, but in a US one itd be thrown before you could say the word “inadmissible”
3
u/BrooklynLodger 2d ago
Illegally obtained evidence is admissable in a US court so long as it was not obtained at the direction of law enforcement. At least for criminal matters
1
3
u/Fit-Nothing-3782 2d ago
Don't know if this is a jab, but 'dismissible' is also fine in this case, I feel. And why wouldn't it in a UK court?
2
u/Aggravating_Cause195 2d ago
It wasnt a jab, im a city fan praying to god we find a way around. The reason why this wont happen is because it was the source of the original investigation, the emails arent actually evidence (or if they are, theyre simply a cherry on top of way more raw reliable evidence the league found). They simply triggered the investigation when they were leaked, which is legal over here. Also, its not a court of law, its an independent commission so I would imagine (happy to be corrected) that the bar for dismissal is much higher. But hey im a dude on the internet, everything ive just said could be wrong, but I dont believe it is :)
1
u/ExtraterrestrialHole 2d ago
Also the statute of limitations applies in every single court and that is usually limited to 6 years.
0
u/Aggravating_Cause195 2d ago
And just to add, I agree that dismissed would also be a brilliant outcome 👍
16
u/runnerswanted 2d ago
I mean, the whole “sham” evidence hasn’t been released. It’s in the appendices that are secret. How the fuck do you say “yeah, we got ‘em, but you can’t see why” and think it’s legitimate.
2
u/BillehBear 2d ago
because they didn't even look at the evidence given to them and labelled witnesses as liars as soon as. PL went into this with their minds made up
and if the appeal goes through and we're cleared and shown to have not been given a fair trial PL is kinda fucked because it would've shown they were partisan
2
u/_mooc_ 2d ago edited 2d ago
Well if the commission has seen these documents and City knows the documents to be authentic…
1
u/mossgato 2d ago
The commission said they chose to ignore some documents and not trust others provided by City because of reasons in another unpublished appendix.
4
u/anumberwound 2d ago
We’ll be there for the day our ownership pushes for mention of 114/115 to get the same condemnation and punishments as tragedy chanting
2
u/farhantdm556 2d ago
If what city officials said is true that they gave literally evidence of bank statements and documents disproving the charges and the judge panel and 3 independent judges straight up ignored it then that might just prove the EPL is just run by the Red Cartel. Cause i haven't seen an official statement online disproving what our officials said yet. And it's damn suspicious they have a verdict but don't wanna release all the actual evidence to back it up.
12
u/AbuNawas_NY 2d ago
It shows you the only team only focused on football is City, they red card our player we win against United , they red card Liverpool player we win. They let us play 11 vs 11 we win. Those so called pundents already said it, they want City to be mediocre. City exposed how pathetic they are
9
u/sapa_inca_pat 2015/16 Away Shirt 2d ago
So many comments from ignorant biased red cartel fans where they’re literally end with “go back to mid table/lower league mediocrity where you belong” and they can’t see the irony while defending FFP
23
u/moody-green 2d ago
They also can’t admit that the premier league absolutely made a complete mess of this.
Instead of waiting for summer, they wanted to embarrass City in-season and stage a public tar & feathering at Anfield.
4
u/PresentationNeat5671 2d ago
Exactly. Apparently the decision was made months ago but by coincidence they drop the verdict to the public before a huge international break so it’s the only thing that will be talked about in those weeks … and just so happens City are at Anfield right after the break. Pure coincidence
20
9
u/Loud_Tank_5074 2d ago
I think the management and squad should be committing acts of self flagellation outside the Etihad every Thursday at 3 p.m. as an act of contrition to show others how truly sorry they really are.
9
u/mjc6290 2d ago
The American broadcast was a disgrace. They're employed to comment on the game being played. If you can't do that objectively then go sit on your couch like the rest of us. Finger wagging because the players were happy to have won the match - the thing they're supposed to do! - is just so beyond the pale. Tim Howard and the two Robbies can fuck off forever.
8
u/HugeAssAnimeTendies 2d ago
Ah yes, City shouldn’t be allowed to play matches in 2026 for charges from 2018. Makes perfect sense.
7
u/International_Dot561 2d ago
I love the idea that City supporters are supposed to "disappear" because of the FFP drama. God forbid fans enjoy watching their club dismantle a rival at a ground where we historically don't fare very well.
Like, either we're "a tinpot club with no fans and an empty stadium," or we're "a swath of shameless loudmouths." Bring the bants, I say. This whole thing has been galvanizing. I reckon regardless of whatever the fallout may be, having stuck with the club during these strange times will eventually be a badge many of our supporters will wear proudly. CTID 💙

Because these shows are stacked with former players who are mostly dumb as shit.
The Tim Howard bit is laughable because, the last three weeks has gone well beyond criticizing the board for what they may have done and strayed in all sorts of ugly directions. What did they expect from professional footballers who have been attacked by the entire country's media?

It’s a great time to be alive as a man city fan watching this go down . Never in my wildest dreams was I expecting our dominance to be so tremendous that other fans are publicly calling for the dismantling of my football team. Not because they cant let the football do the talking. We’re just a million miles ahead of the competition and they don’t know how to stop us on the pitch.
Funny as heck and even if they strip away our winning and titles or whatever, it will never erase the fact that their team couldn’t compete with us on the pitch. And with that, I won’t be surprised that we will be back to winning even with relegation, stripping us and what not.
Because winning is in our DNA and our destiny. These clubs still don’t get it. It was never just about the money. Every other team had the same chance and ability to spend money. What differentiates us from them isn’t the money, it was what we did with it. And they can never take that away from the club.
We’re not silly enough to go and buy useless duds like Wirtz when Cherki is a third less. We can take an Everton winger and convert him into a world class player who comes on as an impact sub to dominate man united with us being down to 10 men.
We’re not wasting our money on useless duds or marketing player profiles like Bradley barcola who’s yet again, kinda useless.
We’re not spending British world record for a striker who gets benched by a youth team player 12 months down the line..
Every single acquisition has had its purpose and value extracted from. Yes, I even view our deadend deals like Phillips as successful. You have to since he was part of the squad that he won championships after championships. He’s a serial winner which is something Isak will never be.
What’s relegation going to do to us? We’re just going to identify the right people and bring them in. And those players , coaches, management whatever are going to bring us glory.
That’s what happens when a football club runs itself based on bringing unadulterated success and having the vision to execute it.
We’re not wasting our time like other football clubs. We will just look at the problem infront of us, think of what we need to do to address it and then do the necessary things to make it work.
That’s how we rise, how we got our success. We will apply this same principles to the next set of challenge until we overcome it. It’s not going to hold us down for long and the way other football clubs are run, it will just be a matter of time before we get back to total and utter dominance.

You tried to sign Wirtz…

u/the99percent1 1d ago
It was a total smoke screen, we backed out the minute he demanded 140mil plus his wages.
Why would we when Cherki was bargain price

If we win our appeal the meltdown is going to be of monumental proportions, I mean I genuinely feel for the mental well-being of these people if we get off. They may never fully recover from it, and I can't wait!
1
u/bertie288 2d ago
The meltdown going on with rival fans and the media is actually very disturbing. Vitriol and pure hate is oozing out of their mouths as they speak about city. They really are losing their minds over the fact the City exploited a loophole. The Abu Dhabi Government is not His Higness Sheikh Mansour!
4
u/doomedpolecat 2d ago
As much as sections of the media are borderline inciting violence against anything Man City related, it’s going to die down.
Heard nothing but shit off my red mates over the last few weeks. After the weekend? Drawing at home to 10 men Spurs? Not a peep. They will go back to their own clubs failings and complain about them. Sure you will get a few heads trying to blame city for their clubs failings (as Khaldoon predicted) but the hostility will die down.
You’ll see the odd piece from journalists over the next few months to prolong the narrative but it’ll eventually reek of desperation. It already does to us and it won’t be long before others see it to.

What were these lot thinking? That we would fall down and roll over? Liverpool fans and everyone else was watching to see Liverpool beat us in the so called cauldron of anfield, they were all ready to burn is down yesterday. But guess what? Half of anfield had to leave before the clock reached 90min!!! Meltdown is inevitable, haha, drink it lads, this is the game!! Come on city!!

u/Feeling_Nerve_7578 2d ago
I loved how the stadium went from roaring reds to deafening silence in the space of a single goal, thn the inevitable fire drill after the second one.
The pundits (and announcers ffs) can't keep their bias under control. The guys calling the US broadcast (are they different from England broadcast, I assume so) were grossly obvious in their support for Liverpool. ESPN had Craig Burley repeatedly calling Stevie Nichols on his bullshit bias, it was deliciously satisfying.

Feverish overreaction from all sides. Bias and vested interest, driven to the maximum by years of speculation and a click-hungry media. If you asked most of them for basic details on the charges themselves they couldnt provide them.
Look at the vitriol you get as a City fan for daring to enter any discussion on it - its well and truly gone past reasonable at this point.

obviously there is blood in the water so the sharks want to feed. but it will be hilarious when whatever happens doesn't automatically award their mid table clubs UCL trophies they were never in contention for, spawn billions in revenue they never had a chance of earning, or opens scrutiny on their own books. then they will all turn on each other like they always do. it's less about taking something away from city and more about giving something to themselves.
3
u/PissedOffPuffins 2d ago
I’m convinced most clubs won’t even bother going after City because it’ll open them up to scrutiny and we’d all bear witness to their own actions
2
u/Junior-Suggestion746 2d ago
That would be amazing, everyone can sue us but if you do you must be investigated

u/Abitou 2d ago
These people are too dramatic and out of reality, “they should postpone all City games”, and what happens to all contracts in place, genius? The schedule? What if the appeal is successful? What if the appeal isn’t successful but the punishment isn’t expulsion for the league or w/e?
Bunch of melodramatic teenagers without a single rational thought, it’s all emotional, it’s not a coincidence that they seem to have radicalized the moment they saw our away end and team smiling and making a joke out of all of it.
3
u/Ube_Ape 2d ago
They made the team the villains, said they didn’t care about the supporters and despite the appeal being ongoing, have already decided they should be relegated out of existence and yet are still bothered if the team plays well and celebrates it, if the supporters show support.
Bring on the villain era. However it ends, let it be fun.

I'd be curious to see a poll of City supporters feelings on everything.
In my entirely anecdotal observations I feel the majority are in the camp of "we broke unfair rules and should be punished for that, but we do not feel morally bad about our rule breaking (since the rules were not fair and pulled the ladder up). No matter what happens or where we play we will support the club that we love so much and you can't take away the feelings of our memories when our overpaid 11 beat your overpaid 11."
Because I feel like the main disconnect that rival fans/pundits aren't understanding is that we do not feel morally conflicted about the rules we broke. Personally I might feel a little uneasy if we acted like we did yesterday had the charges been for match fixing or PEDs or injury bounties or other morally damning rule breaking. But we're guilty of breaking accounting rules that leveled the playing field between us and the other big clubs.
We've always had a streak of gallows humor and passionate loyalty at the core of our fanbase. Our away support is one of the best in the country. I keep seeing rivals say "you won't be celebrating and laughing when you're in League 2"....but they just don't get that we absolutely will be laughing and celebrating. We love this club despite it's success, not BECAUSE of it.
So seeing us jubilant and celebrating a win makes them seethe because they feel what we did was morally damning rather than breaking rules to be able to spend as much as the other top clubs in England. And for big swarths of their fanbases they say the "you won't be laughing in league 2" lines because they know in their hearts that they would abandon their clubs if the roles were reversed. (And yeah we probably will lose a lot of plastic support if we do get the book thrown at us, but I'm not talking about them obviously).
"WE BROKE OUR OWN LEAGUE 1 HOME ATTENDANCE RECORD, YOU'LL NEVER SING THAT!"

What are the players meant to do?? Walk around looking sad and not competing?
3
u/MoonPieKitty 2d ago
I mean, I get that the owners have possibly done some shady shit and probably, maybe, cheated. But... that's nothing to do with the players and fans. WHY shouldn't they be happy that they preformed admirably under some pretty shitty circumstances. If anything, they need to show LOVE for the players and fans. It isn't their fault. Even Rebecca Lowe upset me yesterday, and I have always really liked her.
They need to grow up and stop throwing fuel onto an already massive fire.
3
u/maplethrift 2d ago
I don't like the word "cheat" but I get why everyone's using it.... cuz to me cheating means match fixing, paying off officials etc. Juventus? that's called cheating lol and I'd go as far as to argue we saved this friggin league and a team from dying off; the whole stripping our titles etc..... I mean what does that have to do with anything? y'all couldn't beat us with our team lol not like we were injecting steriods into our players lol wtf
1
u/VyCanisMajoris33 1d ago
Nones arguing the players weren't good on the pitch. It's more that they wouldn't be here in the first place without us breaking the rules

I’ve never heard Jamie and Neville say so little, hearing them choke up when the goals started going in was immense. They can go wank each other for all I care, one’s a tax cheat who spits on little girls and the others so far up his own arse and has been given multiple contracts around Manchester on the basis of him being chummy with Burnham.
When Roy Keane joked about the hope is city lose games you could hear the glee in Carras laugh. That’s all they want, the script is for us to lose games with the pressure on but we won’t because are more than what they think we are 🍌🍌🍌 til the fucking end. .
4
u/VoL4t1l3 2d ago
The script was for city to get trounced 5-0 and to crumble that is what they all wanted. sorry to burst your bubble 🫧

Truth be told, Simon Jordan over at Talksport, has said repeatedly that the rules were wrong to begin with, that PSR was only implemented to protect the big 4/5 clubs, and that while he thinks that City deserve some sort of punishment, the rules have to change to allow investors to want to invest in the Premier League.

Listening to the Football Weekly podcast and would you know, no one knows what they are playing for. The footballers on the pitch are an illusion. Then they spent the next 30 min talking about other football matches and footballers.

u/Abject-Treat-8632 2d ago
They’re all afraid that city will win the league. They talk about a mockery of the league, the real mockery would be to relegate the team that won it that year. They’re terrified that city will live on forever as having fought against all of the prem and won
2
u/ZenZenZenAgain 2d ago
The Premier League needs to write rules for as many different scenarios as they can fathom and explain the repercussions of those acts. They should also audit everyone every year and know immediately if someone is cheating. Saying someone cheated 20 years in a row and they don’t know what the repercussions are shows an idiotic league with no audit system.

If we were not an amazing team / club and was losing points they would not be saying this because they only care about their own club winning lmao. Shameless behavior from shameless fans

u/In_Finity05 2d ago
I guess City players are supposed to be sad. We aren't allowed to celebrate. We must be sad that we scored a goal. That's the only way to repent 😔
1
u/boom_clap_boom 2d ago
Had Liverpool won, we wouldn't have seen such posts. They can't beat us on the pitch, that's why they want to see us gone.

Next international break is second week of November. That sort of lines up with a possible denied appeal and successive points deductions (over seasons) in addition to transfer plus sponsorship bans.

These people don't understand the meaning "final decision". The premier league can't do shit to any club. Court can. Day by day more and more idiots reveal themselves and all you can do is laugh at them.

It’s people, people! And as we know - people are stupid at times, at times jealous, at times delusional and mostly untrue to themselves just to keep going. Also, most of those belong to one of these - noisy neighbors, Arse or Liv. So just chill and enjoy while we win it all again 💙💙

u/SerCharles 2d ago
if they lost, no one would be saying this. it would be a celebration and no call for the game to not matter.
the lead up to the game was everyone looking for City to get humbled. it's pretty funny to watch the switch up.
