Support Request ๐Ÿ›Ÿ Stuck

Post image

I tried to install it on a fresh 256GB SATA SSD.

I tried twice, both times it was getting stuck at 34.

Re-flashed(Rufus) the iso twice on the USB stick, but still the same results.

How to get past this point?

Update: tried Ventoy and still getting stuck at 34.

Can you suggest one that's based on Ubuntu?

Use ventoy if you flashed via Rufus it may cause issues

Reโ€‘write the ISO to the USB drive in dd format. Start the installation again.

Which method are you using to do the install. Are you choosing Install from the boot menu or Try first? Maybe try the other option to see if you can get farther. I usually use the Try first option and then install from the live environment. That way, I can open a terminal window and become root "sudo bash" so I can look around at log files, especially when there are problems. Also, when I boot, I edit the boot commands to eliminate "quite splash" options. That way I can see if there are hardware issues that might cause trouble. Also, it would help us to help you to know what kind of BIOS your computer has. If it's UEFI, you can just use dd to copy the iso to a usb stick. If it's the older BIOS, you probably used Rufus to create a bootable stick.

I used "Try First" and for the BIOS it's a H81M P32L. Yeah it's super old and I select the UEFI option from the boot screen to enter the USB stick. And I used Rufus.

I'm now trying with Ventoy. Will update soon.

If it supports UEFI, I would have thought you wouldn't need Rufus or Ventoy to make a usable boot disk, unless this is your first foray into the linux world. FWIW, I have installed lubuntu 26.04 on several older PCs, some that pre-date UEFI. I've got a laptop that's similar vintage to your PC. Its got a core i3-3217U with a Mobile Intel HM76 Express chipset and DDR3L ram. It was made in 2013, same year as yours and it supports UEFI. I'm sure I used Ubuntu's startup disk creator to create the usb stick I used to install on UEFI PCs, but probably could have used dd just as well. I have only used Rufus to create bootable disks for my pre-UEFI BIOS PCs.

Do you have anything running some flavor of linux you can use to make a bootable usb drive? Maybe create a second usb stick while running the live lubuntu you can boot into?

Are you using the 26.04 iso from April or the more recent 26.04.1? Maybe you'd have better luck with the "other" one or with another ubuntu flavor? One of my 2009 vintage PCs didn't play well with lubuntu but did better with xubuntu 26.04: https://xubuntu.org/release/26.04/

Once you've got one desktop working you can always install another one.

I also wonder why in the screenshot you posted, the last message mentions 'Parameter "mouse" is not declared'. Is the mouse you're using working at this point?

Since you can boot into the live environment, check the system logs from a terminal window: journalctl -b

Update: I tried with Ventoy this time. But still gets stuck at 34. I'm now getting Xubuntu and try again.
