How to Change GRUB Wait Time

  • Open your terminal and type sudo nano /etc/default/grub to open the configuration file with root rights.
  • Find the line that says GRUB_TIMEOUT=X (where X is your current wait time in seconds).
  • Change the number to your preferred duration (e.g., GRUB_TIMEOUT=5 for 5 seconds, 0 to boot immediately, or -1 to wait indefinitely until you make a choice).
  • Save the file and exit your text editor.
  • Run sudo update-grub (or sudo grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg depending on your Linux distribution) to apply the changes.
  • Reboot your computer.
